Yesterday Cece Cash came dangerously close to stuffing Derek North into the trunk of her car and dumping his body in the Vegas desert. Then she snapped out of her daydream and realized he wasn’t worth the prison time.

As much as Cece hates to admit it, she needs Derek. Her old pal’s cash rescued her private investigation agency. Her witchcraft hadn’t been enough to save the business. Luckily for her, Derek has the money and she has the skills. Well, at least she thinks she has the skills. She’s still counting on the spell casting to help.

Now if she can just pay Derek back, she’ll send him packing to Savannah and get him out of her hair for good. Wisecracking and fun-loving Derek has other plans though. He enjoys being a part of the agency. Life is a party and he isn’t about to waste a minute of it. Why else would he come to Vegas?

What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas. Sometimes the shenanigans pop up in the middle of the desert in a burning car. A successful owner of a fitness club is suspected of murder and disappears right after the crime. Cece and Derek are hired to find the woman and uncover the truth about the homicide of a young fitness trainer. The stakes are high in Sin City for Cece and Derek. Will luck be on their side or will they lose it all?

I do enjoy Rose Pressey's books, but this wasn't a favorite. The title & description says "paranormal" to me, but the witchy part seemed to be tossed in rather than being an integral part of Cece's life.

That said, it did get better as it went on and the ending did capture me. I'll probably give a second book in the series a chance as the end of this one hinted at more of Derek and the witch part of Cece's character.

What the Hex? is a lighthearted cozy mystery that is light on the witchcraft and more focused on the cozy mystery. Not that I mind, I’ve long enjoyed Rose Pressey’s stories, it’s just there really is little witchcraft in here and for a “paranormal mystery” series I kinda expected more on the paranormal side of things.

Cece and Derek are partners in her private investigation agency, well she’s the P.I. he’s the one who she borrowed money from to start the agency so he gets a desk and his name on the door. Derek is outgoing, Cece not so much. So when a new client shows up looking for her missing best friend who is being accused of killing another friend – well, things get complicated real fast. Derek’s been to one of their parties, so he’s who the client wanted to do the searching. The resulting mystery is fun, lighthearted and full of suspects.

Cece’s aunt left her the house in a retirement community, a spot in the local coven and lots of new retiree friends. Her nights are pretty anti-social as she mixes up spells and maybe has a side job that she’s definitely not wanting Derek to know about… especially the spell making. A lot of their story is hiding back what she is and does from Derek.

I had fun with What The Hex?. It’s got charm, a touch of romance, a puzzle to figure out and a cute side story within the main mystery. If you’re in the mood for a cozy mystery, a bit of dabbling in the craft, enjoyable main characters and some bad guys to hunt down then this story is sure to satisfy. I’d recommend this one for any Cozy Mystery lover, and I’ll be picking up the second story to find out what Cece and Derek are up to next.

In the backyard of Cece Cash, under the stars, the
coven meets pouring portions into a cauldron to cast
a spell to aide in solving a murder and missing person
investigation.
Cece, paranormal private investigator, Marilyn Monroe
impersonator and witch, has moved from Savannah,
Georgia to Las Vegas,Nevada and is working with her
brother’s best friend, Derek North as a partner. There
is undeniable chemistry between them but neither acts
upon it. Derek does not know that Cece is a witch!!!
Should she tell him?
Murder, missing persons, suspense, gun shots, body in
the car trunk, bodybuilders, Elvis Presley and Marilyn
Monroe impersonators, Vegas casinos plus humor make
this an enjoyable read.

Cece Cash has opened a PI Agency in Las Vegas with her childhood friend, Derek North, although she's not always happy with that choice. She's also a witch, so she often uses spells for help with the cases. When she and Derek are hired to find a missing woman and prove she didn't kill her friend, they must work together and hope luck is on their side.

I enjoyed this quick, fun read. It had wonderful characters and a fast paced plot. I do wish the witchcraft aspect had been more focused as there wasn't much of the paranormal in the book. I was drawn into the engaging story and kept hooked while the mystery was fun to solve. I'm looking forward to the next book and recommend this one.

Cute

A cute story about a private investigator and her fun loving partner.
I liked it, for the first in the series we find out quite a bit about the min characters. The mystery was interesting, how it was solved was good.
Very little paranormal activity in the book considering the title, so I hope it improves in the next one.

Witch Way To Love

I enjoyed reading about Cece and Derek. I liked how she tries to pretend that she doesn't want him around. I loved the coven and Agatha. I will be reading more about these characters and the adventures that follow.

Enjoyed this immensely

This was such a fun read. Imagine going around Vegas with a Marilyn Monroe impersonator who is also a PI/ witch! Plus a sexy partner thrown in too. Oh yeah I forgot about gun shooting Elvis impersonator! This was so much fun.

Not what I expected from this author!

On the whole the story line is ok. The Cece character is a little weak. She is supposed to be a private detective, how come she's always in left field and Derek is always spot on with everything. It's annoying. I hope Cece gets a lot stronger in book 2.

I always wish Rose Pressey would get someone to take a look at her stuff before she publishes. There are so many errors with punctuation...it gets very distracting sometimes!

Murder and mayhem with a southern twist in Sin City! Super Cute!

Rose Pressey has another awesome series. I love Cece and her quirkiness. The accent, her “hobbies,” the coven, living at the retirement home, the whole package is fabulous. And Derek, he is so adorable, in a manly way of course. His blond hair, blue eyes, gorgeous smile and his ability to make Cece blush. I truly think he is in Vegas for other reasons then just to be a P.I., but we will let Cece figure that out on her own.

I love the murder-missing person aspect of the story. It is so true to see that even if you have the entire package, brains, beauty and a great body you don’t always have the personality and loving spirit to go with it. I truly liked that the people Cece and Derek interviewed were characters themselves.

I loved that Cece’s friends were her neighbors from the retirement community and that even though she isn’t of retirement age she is accepted and even feels part of the community. However the girl could get out a little bit more. The setting in Las Vegas is great. The Elvis and Marilyn Monroe impersonators competitions and performance, classic Rose - getting that Elvis in there. Loved it! Such a great little mystery.

My rating is 5 stars. I loved it and am looking forward to the 2nd installment of this series. I completely recommend this book! It is awesome, you never know what will happen next.

"What the Hex?" by Rose Pressey is the first novel in "A Paranormal P.I. Mystery" series. Cece Cash wants nothing more than to prove to her family that she can be a successful P.I. However, she has little cash, and in order to open her own business, she accepts an offer from her brother's best friend to accept him as her partner. Reluctantly she accepts his proposal. She just didn't realize at the time that Derek North would move from their hometown in Savannah, Georgia to Las Vegas, Nevada. Little does she realize that even though Derek is out partying every night, he's making contacts and promoting their business. When one of his new friends drops in hoping they can find her bff, Cece and Derek are not only charged with finding a missing person, but also solving a murder.
Overall, I really enjoyed this novel. It was crafted a bit different than the typical Pressey novel. Cece and Derek are not a romantic couple. They're not even really friends at the start of the novel. I enjoyed watching their relationship evolve. Something else to note, yes Cece is a witch, but she doesn't have any extra powers nor does she really do too many witchy things. Pressey will mention her casting a spell every so often, but beyond that there really isn't anything else that is paranormal about this novel. Either way I thought that this was a fun read. I look forward to reading the next novel in this series.

Doth the lady protests too much?

Terrific. Having to take on a partner in her PI business was a move she had to make to keep the business afloat. However the new case might be the end of the business and them if they don't watch out. With Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, body builders, loan sharks and card counting, this is a delightful fast paced romp through Vegas. Great characters, with a slightly uptight heroine and an over the top hero, a great plot and some amusing dialogue. Okay I did have an idea of who the killer was early on but this didn't detract from enjoying the ride. A great cozy.

Another winner from Rose Pressey!

CeCe and Derek make a great investigating team. There's a murder, a missing person, and someone keeps trying to kill them. Couldn't put it down til I was done. Wonder if CeCe and Derek will become more than just partners? Can't wait for the next book to find out. Definitely worth reading. If you haven't read any of her books, I highly recommend this one.

This book by Rose Pressey was fun to read. I love how Cece and Derek interact. I am not sure that Cece gives Derek enough credit for having a brain. It will fun to see where these two go in future books. But it was an interesting mystery that I was not too sure who did it or where some people were.

Cece is hilarious a brilliant P.I, Derek is her business partner but hopefully one day he will be so much more, if only Cece wasn't hiding her true self from him.
Can the two of them solve the mystery and can Cece keep her secrets or should she trust Derek?
Great funny mystery

I enjoyed this book. This book was a perfect first book in a series as it left my curious. I look forward to reading how Cece and Derek incorporate witchcraft into solving their next case. And where Cece & Derek's relationship goes.

It could have been a good book but the main character seemed slow thinking and caused herself more problems than was necessary. She became frustrating in more than one situation. Derek wasn't a boyfriend or even a great detective. He was a party boy who fell into the middle of things and what good he did accomplish was strictly by accident. The story line was great but the writing wasn't at its best for my personal enjoyment.
