When Kitty is happy and healthy, everything is perfect. She jumps around, eats everything in sight, and has the energy to keep slobbering puppies in their place. But when she's sick, all she can do is lie in her bed. Looks like it's time for this sick kitty to go...to the vet. When Kitty's family finally manages to get their clawing, angry pet into the doctor's office, it's a wild adventure for Kitty, who has to get the most dreaded thing of all...a shot. Once the shot is administered, Kitty is cast into an ingenious dream within a dream sequence in which she has to make right by Puppy or risk being shut out of PussyCat heaven forever. This ninth installment of the popular Bad Kitty series from Nick Bruel is chock-full of brilliant supporting characters and, of course, the crankiest bad kitty you've ever seen.
Nick Bruel is the New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of children's books including Bad Kitty, Bad Kitty Gets a Bath, Bad Kitty Meets the Baby, and Boing!, among others. Nick is a freelance illustrator and cartoonist, and during his down time, he collects PEZ dispensers and grows tomatoes in the backyard. He lives in Tarrytown, NY with his wife Carina and their lovely cat Esmerelda.
Bad Kitty Goes to the Vet is a funny graphic book, which is about a naughty kitten that is scared of a shot that she is going to get at the vet. I recommend this book for 6-9 year olds who have pets in their home. This book contains no rude humor so there should be no concern on this book being a bad influence to children. There are a couple of issues about this book. For example, this book’s plot can become confusing at times. Over all, I feel that this book has an exciting plot, but will be enjoyed by any second grader like me.
Four stars: Another funny, witty and informative adventure for Bad Kitty.
Something is wrong with Bad Kitty, she hasn't been eating and feeling well. That means a trip to THE VET. Will Bad Kitty survive? The Bad Kitty series is a series that continues to please my eight year old daughter. She loves all the funny antics and adventures of Bad Kitty. This latest book, takes Bad Kitty to the vet. The scene where Bad Kitty meets the vet is funny as you get two perspectives, what is really happening and how Bad Kitty interprets it. I also liked that this was informative, as it explains to kids some of the ailments that affect cats and symptoms to watch for. The book then takes an unexpected turn as Kitty visits the after life. She must make amends for her behavior towards Puppy. Will she be able to perform and acto of unconditional kindness? Needless to say, this was a funny read that my daughter enjoyed thoroughly. I like that it challenges her and entertains at the same time. If you want a fun series for your young reader, pick up the Bad Kitty books.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for this review.
“Bad Kitty” by Nick Bruel is a medium sized graphic novel for younger kids around the age of 6 or 7. I finished this book in a total of 2 days, so I think this is a quick read. It was super easy and I didn’t have any trouble with reading the words. I think the plot of this book is adorable and hilarious. The cat didn’t look so well, so they had to take her to the vet. At the vet, she gets a shot and falls asleep into a dream. It got a little confusing at some parts, but it was pretty easy to read otherwise. On the other hand, this is a big concern to me, there is not really a lot of “bad kitty” in the book! This is not the most bad kitty book that he’s written, but it’s fine. It was pretty funny, too. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read. If there was halves for rating I would give it a 3.5.
I thought Bad Kitty would be a lot worse than she was at the vet. My cat lives up to the bad kitty name when we try to take him to the vet. Bad Kitty was more frightened into better behavior by a crazy "dream."
As usual, Nick Bruel combines the silly and the absurd with the factual and useful. Kids will learn all about cat health and the services that veterinarians provide, while too busy laughing at Bad Kitty's antics to notice that it's actually educational.
I'll share I could interpret few things from this book. Bad Kitty gives off the feeling that it keeps getting feral and has to meet the vet on their caretaker's insistence, read forceful persuasion. And living with a Puppy can be tough for Kitty, but Kitty's persistence to hang around is what keeps it fun. Totally enjoyed it!
I'd heard of the Bad Kitty books before, but never had an opportunity to read them until now. Someone was nice enough to leave on in my Little Free Library, to which it will be returning now that I've read it.
Definitely a fun read, and quite funny, especially for anyone who has ever owned a cat. I see so much of my Ringo Luna in Bad Kitty, and if she was ever granted outside privileges, I'm sure she would be just as much of a menace to the general population.
Also, I have to wonder just what Kitty Heaven is like, since we really only get a true peek at Doggy Heaven, which seems accurate.
Bad Kitty is sick and needs to go to the vet. Risking life and limb, Nick Bruel gets her there, Kitty gets better, and readers learn about how vets help animals.
This totally resonated with me in the humor department. My family has had cats which actually got warning labels put on their charts at the vet because of the fits they pitched about going there. A suit of armor would have come in handy several times. I like that Bruel talks about all kinds of vets and gives kids a great overview of how vets examine animals and help them. Both educational and entertaining.
I loved the book because it's funny and and I love bad kitty's book series. This book would be perfect for 5th graders who enjoy cats and laughter and if you like kitty's and laughter then you'll love this book because it's about this cat who gets sick and she didn't want to go to the vet. And then she fights the owner on going but then she finally gets Bad kitty into the cage then they got to the doctors office the doctor opened up the cage then fixes her then when they got back home she felt all better . The end
Kitty isn't feeling well, so after several methods to determine what is wrong, it's off to the vet, but this is easier said than done. Once at the vet, Kitty is given a shot to sedate her, and solve her problem. While under sedation, Kitty journeys through the cat door from her world to the next, and is given another chance to redeem herself by doing something unconditionally nice for puppy. Will she be able to do it, or be doomed to Puppy Dog Paradise? Uncle Murray provides fun facts on how to tell if your cat is sick, and the different types of veterinarians, and what they actually do.
More silliness from Kitty. When she is not feeling well her owner is forced to take her to the vet which turns out to be quite the ordeal. At the vet Kitty is sedated and finds herself at the gates of Pussycat Paradise but is told that she must be kind to puppy in the next 24 hours or she will be sent to Puppy Paradise. Good for ages 6 and up.
Aaron (age 7): It was a good book and I liked it.
Ally (age 8): It's really funny and you would like it.
Graphic novel/chapter book for beginner readers. My daughter enjoyed it and it was a quick read. I also liked the ‘uncle’ pages where they would give you additional, detailed information about vets, cats, pet sickness. It was a very interesting read.
Personally I found the story choppy and predictable but, again, my daughter enjoyed so the intended audience will be delighted.
This would be a great bridge book for chapter books. The story is a bit Christmas Carol.
This series is so funny and cute!! I read this with my oldest son and we had a good laugh over this book the few nights it took us to finish it. I love how the author gives Kitty a funny, yet very feisty, attitude as well as teaching kids fun facts about cats and animals in general between each chapter.
Hooray! My first grader has been telling me how boring reading is and we FINALLY found a book she loved. This was perfect for her interest level and was pretty fun to read aloud. We read it all in one sitting and have already requested a couple others in the series from the library. Success all around!
I think this is a great book to introduce to children who have a new cat in the household. It's a very humorous book that kids can relate to easily, even if they do not have a pet. It's a great read for all of those interested in a fun animated book and intrigued with the Bad Kitty's series
I loved this book. Nick Bruel has done it again writing a great book with witty humor and comical mischief! I love the bad kitty series because of how hilarious they are. Cats are just so funny. I can't wait to read more!
Bad Kitty is no feeling well, so Kitty is take to Vet and sedated for treatment. During this time Kitty dreams about life and consequences. So when Kitty finally awakes it's crunch time! Nice , funny book!
Fiction Graphic Novel 2016 I liked that this book has different page layouts throughout the book. It also has real information about when cats are sick. I would love to have this in my classroom for students still new to novels because there are not an overwhelming amount of words on each page!
Bad Kitty is always going on an adventure. In this book Bad Kitty happens to be going to the vet. This book teaches students about cats health and the vet, but in a humorous way. I believe some of the other Bad Kitty stories are better, however still a good one!
Read this with my 4yo and he was super into it, and he's not normally into books that arent about construction. And he doesnt like cats, but bad kitty is apparently hilarious and he wants to adopt him.
