“I will always be with you…”

Rising Democratic star Caroline Gerard hasn’t had an easy year. After losing her husband, she is raising two small children alone while trying to navigate the tricky and sometimes shallow halls on Capitol Hill. A string of nasty speeches has her scrambling to apologize to any number of candidates, including newly elected Republican Jack McIntyre. Falling in love again is the last thing on her mind.

Jack McIntyre might have a reputation as a playboy, but he has his sights set solely on his new colleague. Can he break through Caroline’s grief and capture her heart?

Told mostly in flashback and set against a chilling fascist backdrop, Dissident is a rollercoaster ride of political intrigue, passionate contemporary romance, and undying love.

For readers 18+. Ends in a cliffhanger. The first part in a six book saga.

★★★★★! Dissident, book 1 of 6. In times of political discord a couple must fight for their love & the future of their country!

“I discovered that you aren’t compensating for anything with your giant house and fancy cars.”
He looked down at the bulge in his groin, bringing her hand down to touch it. “You’ll find out soon enough.”

Books in The Bellator Saga should be read in order:
Book 1: Dissident
Book 2: Conscience
Book 3: Sojourn
Book 1-3: The Bellator Saga I-III
Book 4: Phoenix
Book 5: Rhapsody
Book 6: Triumph

Dissident (book 1) is the opening to the Bellator saga about an epic love between two politicians; billionaire playboy John Montgomery McIntyre, Jack aka Monty and widow Caroline Joan Gerard, Punky. In times of political turmoil they shall fight not only for their love but for the future of the free world.

Despite a rocky start, Jack and Caroline form a close friendship, across party lines, that with time will grow into more.

Story is a combination of current events, flashbacks and a looming mystery. All along you know that their love is doomed, their lives threated and United States plagued with insurgency and political discord.

Seven words to describe John Montgomery McIntyre, Jack aka Monty: Charming, flirty, determined, suave, mysterious, private and ruthless.

Seven words to describe Caroline Joan Gerard, Punky: Opinionated, strong, indecisive, self-assured, prudish, impulsive and hot-headed.

Dissident, told from mostly Caroline’s POV, is the perfect blend of political intrigue, romance, sex, suspense, violence, angst and darkness. It’s a mystery to unfold and battle to be fought and a love that has much to conquer. It ends as cryptic as it started leading right to book 2, Conscience for the continuation of their saga.

Spectacular! Suspenseful! All-consuming! And evidence of an epic love!

Dissident is about a fictional world where the government are rotten to the core and good people are prepared to fight against the status quo. The mature protagonists, John McIntyre and Caroline lead the complex story through many elements and layers. It's a political thriller at its core but equally depicts a love affair that slowly builds and, as the series progresses, their deep rooted relationship is portrayed with beauty and depth.

The Bellator Saga is showcased through the past and present creating stark juxtapositions through the prose of each period. The past depicts a time that is beautiful with splendour, wealth and power for the protagonists as their relationship builds and blossoms whereas the present is steeped in political unrest and sees the heroine fighting for her life. The character's mature status adds an authentic quality to the telling. They're at the top of their respective careers, they've lived, she has children and he's had a sting of women and past relationships that have never amounted to anything,

I love their easy way with each other, the dynamic of their relationship and individual personalities within the many moving parts of this story.

I had a few small issues with repetition and, for my personal taste, the past is over-detailed. That said, this first part in the series is largely setting the scene and creating the tone and mood of the story with the back ground of the characters, friendships and political scenarios so, despite some aspects feeling a little too fleshed out, this couple grabbed my interest and I was keen to see their relationship and lives play out. I simply had to know where their story went and how far the corrupt government would go in their quest for domination. The last 10% of this book absolutely ROCKED and I really enjoyed the fictional world depicted in the present time. It completely gripped my attention.

This political thriller is a story that has to be allowed to grow and breathe at its own pace. Don't let the word politics put you off. I do not have a huge interest in politics and know very little about USA Administration but by the end of this first part I was firmly immersed in the Saga. Think of a really gritty thriller with deep relationships on television where the protagonists are lawyers or politicians, that's the feeling evoked by this series as it slowly emerges from the page.

I was excited to see where this political, thriller-esque style romance would take me and, having now read the first three books I can say that I'm firmly a fan of this saga.

**Note: Whilst the first three books do not answer every question it's a natural place to read to and pause ready for the next in the series, just as you would do with your favourite TV show.

The first three books in the series are available here-->

~4.5 Dissident Stars
"My Monty. I love you so."
Dissident is an action packed thriller with suspense, romance, and passion. It is the first book in the Bellator Saga. As the action shifts between flashbacks of the past and scenes in the present, Dissident is sure to hold you captive until the very end.

description

Through the flashbacks, we experience Caroline and Jack coming together. Caroline Gerard is a passionate Democrat making a name for herself on the steps of the Capitol. As a widow, she has spent time pouring love into the lives of her two precious daughters. She has a great support system of friends, and her life seems to be complete. However, when Republican playboy Jack McIntyre makes his way into her life, everything changes.
"Would you consider yourself a sex fiend with a sentimental streak?"
Although the two sit on different sides of "the house", together they form a friendship that quickly develops into so much more. Jack and Caroline have an intense attraction to one another, and when they come together, Caroline finds that there is still time for her yet to experience passion and love with another man. However, the road isn't smooth sailing as Jack and Caroline have much to discover.
"Just hold on to me."
"Always."
description

Meanwhile, in the present Caroline is battling the aftermath of a government uprising. Will she have the strength to persevere?
"This is bad. This is really bad."
description
"I want you to be happy. Joyful. I want to give you everything you've ever wanted."
Told in mostly Caroline's POV, Dissident has a perfect blend of action, suspense, and passion. The dialogue is witty, and the characters are complex. As the first book of the Saga, the main focus is to establish the conflict brewing in the government and to mark the beginning of the epic romance between Jack and Caroline. The tension from the present kept me on the edge of my seat. At every moment of horror, I thought I was going to break from the harshness of the present. And then, magically the story shifts to a flashback where love and tenderness are in full bloom. This twisted combination had me on a constant swing of emotions!

description

Overall, Dissident was a fantastic read. The story challenged my mind and captured my heart. When you begin this journey, make sure you have all of the books available on your kindle. As soon as you get to the end of the book, you will want to jump right into the second book Conscience.

4 THRILLING STARS

I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I'll admit that at first I wasn't so sure. While a huge fan of House of Cards, wasn't sure if mixing politics and upheaval with romance would do it for me. Also, I was a bit put off by this being one of a six part series (I love to hate serials...sort of...LOL). But oh boy, I was so wrong!

This is Ms. London's debut novel but it should not be her last. This lady can write with the scenes, character development and dialogue just seamlessly flowing from page to page.

The story alternates between past and present and it works really well in letting the reader get to know and invest in both Caroline Gerard and John Montgomery McIntyre (Jack), as well as slowly start to understand the trouble Caroline is in.

 photo image.jpg1_zpshr0f6zbg.jpg

The main focus is on the relationship and love story that unfolds between Caroline and Jack. She is recently widowed with two girls and he is a self-professed millionaire playboy. This is where any cliches end. Their relationship is mature, relatable and so refreshing. I just loved the pace, care and attention Ms. London gave to the connection and love between Caroline and Jack. Caroline was just so likeable, witty and smart. And Jack is one sexy beast...he is hard to resist. Talk about knowing how to take care of a woman...

The chemistry between these two was hot and heavy...

And Jack's adoration is undeniable but also not over the top.

"I want to make you feel good. Do all the things for you that you've been missing. Touch you the way you want to be touched. Make you shudder and tremble and moan."

Along with this wonderful and compelling love story, there is suspense and danger unfolding as we experience snippets of a new and dangerous America in which the President is beyond corrupt and Caroline and Jack are caught smack dab in the middle of it.

This ends with many questions existing about Caroline's present day predicament, as well as just as many pressing questions as to what happens next in the past. I'm so ready for the next book!

I highly recommend this series. It's so well written with witty, sexy and smart characters and dialogue, and a plot that will leave you guessing and wanting more.

5 "That's all I need to know." Stars

Cecilia London blew me away! I'm so happy to have started The Bellator Saga as it's a series I'm so excited about following. This dystopian political thriller and romance strays from my "normal" reading preferences and surprised me in the best possible way. I was nervous because I'm not a political person, truthfully I'm rather apathetic about politics. But this author made them kind of fun. She presented intellectual conversations about liberals and conservatives, proving points for both sides that were rather fascinating assimilated into a romance for the masses.

Cecilia London possesses a great gift of writing as her story flows seamlessly. With both intrigue and suspense London's writing demonstrates a well-rounded, thoughtful, political plot all the while providing a beautiful love story. She breaks a mold with this story and told me a story I wouldn't normally jump to read. I love that the most about this book. It's out of my usual realm and just completely wowed me expanding my reading horizons.

Dissident starts this saga by taking us to the present in the world of Caroline Gerard and her husband John (Jack) McIntyre. From the very first sentence in the prologue, London hooks you. I felt a connection to these characters in their time of struggle at the very start. My interest peaked immediately in their relationship and their current situation. The prologue sets up the driving force of the story in the present where, through two doctors, we're left to navigate the uncharted waters of this future America where these characters are far from safe. The author did a fantastic job of keeping up the suspense in the story. By giving us enough about the what's happening in the world, this author makes us feel the imminent danger to the point we are truly concerned for these characters with whom she makes us fall in love with yet we're in the dark about the why this danger found them and totally oblivious as to how they'll survive.

In a brilliant twist to her storytelling, through a series of seamless transitions in the form of flashbacks we travel to five years earlier in order to follow Jack and Caroline from the very beginning of their relationship. Second chance for her, first time for him, plus great friends to lovers - these two are a couple with whom I've become totally invested. They make it easy with their intellectual banter, honest conversations, and heated passion. Jack McIntyre is a man who's easy to fall for - to the point of obsession quite honestly. There's something about where they are in their lives, who he was and is, the good Caroline sees in him and the joy he gives back to her life that's just impossible to not love.

It's no secret I'm a fan of serials. I love a good cliffhanger, I love the prospect of falling for characters I can follow through a series of books to get in depth look into this world and their lives. Cecilia London provided a cliffhanger unlike any other I've read. It's mild in the present world, not overly shocking but just enough that we want so much more. We're given facts in the present that help with the cliffhanger of the past.

I'm beyond grateful this author provided me the opportunity to start her series. If you like serials with a different flare to them - some thriller, some politics, a lot of romance - Dissident is definitely the book to read to get you hooked on a new series.

*****FIVE STARS*****

(ARC provided in exchange for an honest review)

This book was perfect for me! I hung onto to every word as if this was the last book I would ever read. I was captivated by the smart and elegant writing style. I immediately connected with the characters and my excitement grew to a level that I could barely contain it, my heart was bursting with glee. There's no better feeling in the world than when you find the perfect story.

 photo image_zpsmk3rdtup.jpeg

In this first book of The Bellator Saga we meet Caroline Gerard, a rising star in the House of Representatives. She recently became a widow and single parent of two beautiful girls. She is very passionate about her job in politics but sadness is always present in her life as she feels guilty for the things she wished she could have said and done for her husband before he died.

Regrets pile up as she gives a speech where she attacks fellow politician, John McIntyre. Caroline immediately wants to fix her mistake but Mr. McIntyre wants none of her apologies. Later when these two find a moment to sit down for a talk, an unmistakable attraction is born. Caroline quickly dismisses her feelings toward John because of his Playboy reputation and also because even after a year since her husband's passing, she's not ready to have feelings for another man.

Caroline and John settle into a very special friendship where they exchange interesting conversation, fun debates and the occasional meal. John McIntyre is very handsome and charming and he finds himself hopelessly falling in love with Caroline and in a very delicate and patient manner he is determined to win a piece of her heart. After a dance and a beautiful kiss, Caroline starts feeling hopeful about a future and maybe loving someone again. John is simply irresistible...

 photo image_zpstrvvidpf.jpeg

This story is told from past to present. The past narrates the whirlwind romance between John and Caroline, while in the present Caroline is handcuffed to a hospital bed recuperating from terrible trauma done to her body. Two doctors are trying to protect her from the military men that want her for treason.

I loved both sides of the story. This is a very smart and well thought out novel. The political background makes it exciting and the romance ignited all my senses, making me addicted and desperate for more.

I highly recommend this books. It took me about two minutes into the story before I asked myself; WHY ISN'T EVERYONE READING THESE BOOKS????? I'm on to the next one... I'm in book heaven right now.

Well, I could hardly put this one down! Really enjoyed it. Loved all the politics, the intrigue, the romance, the characters.

JACK. Swoon ... and he is in his late forties!!! We need more older men in books. Seriously. He.Was.Hot.

"Rising Democratic star Caroline Gerard hasn’t had an easy year. After losing her husband, she is raising two small children alone while trying to navigate the tricky and sometimes shallow halls on Capitol Hill ... Falling in love again is the last thing on her mind."

CAROLINE. So down to earth. I really liked her. No BS about her.

This year is an interesting year in American politics. I am not American but I am totally intrigued with American politics. Spent three weeks in the States this summer and the Democratic and Republic Conventions were held during our stay there. I swear, instead of heading out on to town, as one might do on holidays, myself and himself used to hop into bed and watch the highlights of the Conventions on CNN or whatever other station it was on! Yeah, I really know how to have a good time.

"I'm John Montgomery McIntyre.
My friends call me Jack."

Oh, he has a bit of an Irish connection ... Black Irish! You know me and the feckin' Irish!

Jack and Caroline seem like an unlikely couple. Opposites. He has the reputation of being a bit of a Playboy. She has two daughter (one of the daughters is called "Mo"!!)

"I've made a lot of mistakes in my life Caroline. Things I'm not proud of. I'll probably continue to be an asshole who does terrible things to people. but I feel something for you that I've never felt before. I want to see where it leads. You make me want to be a better human being."

The alternating chapters threw me a bit. I didn't really like them ... in the beginning, but I got used to them.

I am really looking forward to the next installment!

"Go to hell. And leave me the hell alone."

I would have been seriously pissed off if I didn't have the next book to dive into.

Ok ok deep breathes... I have no idea what's going on right now.. I'm at the end of Dissident and I'm feeling a tad nervous. But hoping to Gawd book two I will start to understand what's happening, what I do know is this is not a light read, but a gripping pull at your hair, page turner and make you stop life kind of story...

 photo 59E8032E-6A6A-42E1-A9B8-F2FA3BB3AE9E_zpszlrza6vh.gif

So onto my review... I'm not from the US I'm English and politics isn't my forte but hey my blogger buddy Suzanne has recommended this. So I went in with both feet and I'm going to give a little bit of advice to you that she's given to me. Don't worry about the Politics in this book so much and look deeper.. That is what I'm doing and why I'm taking this in its stride, and why I've fallen hook line and sinker for Jack McIntyre!! I'm clueless as what means what at this point so just going to explain in the best way I can and why I'm enjoying this so far..

So What's it about?
Caroline has lost her husband tragically and her life has been a HUGE struggle this past year, and so she is living life with her closest friends and her two daughters. Who are EVERYTHING TO HER. She is also on the opposite party to Jack when it comes to campaigns and such but let's just say one look at Caroline and his playboy ways stopped and there upon a friendship developed. Gradually, slowly and overtime Jack wove himself deep into Caroline's life.

"We're not just friends, sweetheart." His mouth was at her ear and his voice, dripping with desire and seductive promise, driving her insane. "You know that. We have a connection. I want to be with you, as much more than friends." He traced his fingers down her throat to her collarbone and she quivered, hearing a thudding noise as her purse dropped to the floor. "You want this," Jack whispered. "You need this. You know you do. And you know I can give it to you. You deserve to be cherished, adored, taken care of."

#Sigh Jack Politician, Playboy, friend, lover.
That's all I'm saying he has it all, he takes his time to get Caroline to trust him, she's been hurting and he's helping her through it, Slowly and for the first time since she lost the world she knew, she's starting to breathe again.

Saying all this, Caroline has previously lived the life where her previous husband gave her and her children love, stability and safety. Jack is not that kind of man. Yes he is the kind of man that sweeps you off your feet. Sexy, handsome, and trouble. But he will also pull the carpet out under you, make you think and feel. He also wants for the first time to give everything he's got to Caroline and yes Caroline is a bit stumped at times by his wealth. But they are a team together in a unknown kind of situation. How will this actually work? And can they be happy?

 photo 1E4E1773-A0EB-4C7F-9D14-FA9D638CFD8D_zps1tpq7z8v.jpg

My thoughts
This is a Political thriller where these two main characters are finding out what they mean in this world, where the the government are NOT nice people and they're finding a way to live in it. It's not fun, it's hard and I feel they're in the midst of a maze they've got to escape from..

I'm at the point where I just don't know how to explain this book, it's complicated in the best kind of delicious way. The only way I can explain it is by saying this book is your most favorite, most exquisite shoes that are untouchable to your friends but you. Your at reach but not quite there. I'm being a little vague I'm just at the point where I'm trying to process what's going on. So I'm going to move forward where I truly feel the Shits hitting the fan, captures are looming in on them. It's turning dark I know that..

So to sum up.. This is a book about two people who are in the limelight, one who doesn't know how to be happy. The other who takes what he wants. And it sure as hell is intriguing plus I suppose this book 1 sets the tone for book 2. Take the plunge like me and read it..

Onwards..

OH WOW!!

shock

All of the reviews I've read (and thank you GR friends for all the wonderful reviews that helped to prepare me for this saga) DID NOT prepare me for this introduction to the Bellator Saga. I don't think I've read anything like it and it was more than a welcome surprise.

I really liked how the author set me up to experience a roller coaster ride worth of emotions. From one chapter to the next, I didn't know what to expect. It was impossible to predict the direction that the author was going to lead me.

Told in flashbacks, I fell in love with Jack right along with Caroline. It was sweet. It was fun. It was divine .

fangirl

I love you Silver Fox!!

And just when I got comfortable in lovey-dovey-land, the rug was pulled right from under me. The suspenseful part of the plot kept slapping me upside my head. Gut-wrenching, heart-pounding suspense. I thought this was an incredibly creative way of flexing one's writing chops. I was constantly on edge, wary of getting too cozy with any scene.

I am so excited to start Conscience and thankfully I have the boxed set!

A story of intellect, mystery, political savviness and very sensual and sexy undertones!! I must say, I was a little hesitant to read because I had some preconceived notions about the story. Well- with the push of some friends, I read and was completely overwhelmed and absorbed into an amazing and epic storyline.

Representative Caroline Gerard is a mother, a widower; she is smart, sassy, determined and incredibly strong. Representative Jack McIntyre is smart, good looking, and a playboy. But during his campaign, he was disparaged by Caroline in his congressional race. But that disparaging lead to a meeting between the two. Caroline needed to right the wrong and so THEIR story began....

Besides this being a love story, it's a story of political intrigue, one that sucks you in and doesn't let you go. It grabs you with a prologue that leaves you breathless and then proceeds to take you on a journey of Past and Present. It flows effortlessly, beautifully and epically.

WHY.......is the question!!! Why did this happen and Why would it happen. Their story enfolds and I couldn't put it down. It was magically told, a story that kept you wanting to know more and more and more.

I loved the writing, I loved the characters, I loved the banter....I loved it all!! The writing is intelligent, intriguing and sensual. It's a story that could easily take place now. The political impact of the story will keep you mesmerized and wanting to know more. Definitely a fantastic series start!!

This book is a bit different to what I usually like to read. This is why I was a bit hesitant to read it. But after a friend here on Goodreads recommended it to me and read a few reviews, I decided to give it a try.

Right off the bat, the prologue hooked me in. A man named Jack is seen running in the snow with his wife Caroline trying to get away from something. Caroline is wounded and it seems they are tiring fast. And whoever they are running from is only getting closer. The suspense of what was happening had me turning the page and not wanting to stop. From there on, the story was told alternating from past to present in Caroline's P.O.V.

“You see my humanity. And you accept me anyway. I feel like when you look at me you can see straight to my heart, bypassing all the messy details. You like me. I trust you. None of what I have matters to you nearly as much as who I truly am.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

In the past, we see how it is that Caroline met and fell in love with Jack. I really much loved watching Caroline's friendship to Jack grow into love. I loved it! I enjoyed the chemistry between them. I loved Jack and how he treated Caroline and her daughters. He was caring and hot. Caroline was a snarky intelligent woman and a very loving mother. I really liked her and I was very happy to see her slowly open up to Jack. They really were great together. Another thing I liked was that these characters acted like the adults that they were and never came across as childish or anything like that.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

He backhanded her a final time, and everything went black.
Caroline jerked at the memory. Fuck. This definitely wasn't purgatory.

While I was drawn to the romantic story line, I won't lie, the whole political aspect didn't really do it for me. I've just never really enjoyed things involving politics so it was hard for me to follow their political jargon. These parts caused the books to become really slow for me so I did skim through it at times. However, I still managed to enjoy the story. The book picked up for me near the end that I became engrossed in what was happening between Jack and Caroline in the past, and what was happening with Caroline in the present. Then the ending happened...that freaking cliffhanger. I need to read the next book! Overall, this was a really good read. I didn't end up loving it but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy or like it, because I did. I can't wait to read the next one but I think I will wait for all the parts to be out before I do. I just can't deal with them cliffhangers.

This was such an enjoyable once I got around the political jargon. You won’t find me watching the news or up to date on my “Washington, DC” information. The most I know about the Senate and the House is what I learned in Senior year of High School and that was eon’s ago.

Behind all the information about elections and scandals, is a beautiful love story that touched my heart. I fell in love with Caroline and think that Jack is one sexy man! It broke my heart to find out what he did.

Now the one problem I had with the book is the Prologue – I like a bit of a mystery with a romance – will they get together? Are they ever going to fall in love – but the prologue starts in the future and you already know that Caroline and Jack are married so it took away the surprise for me.

Other than that – I really enjoyed the story and can’t wait to see what happens in the next one!

Re-Cap
We start out with Jack and Caroline running from soldiers trying to get across the border to safety. Something is really kooky about the US now…states are breaking off from the union. Both Jack and Caroline are injured and Caroline is only slowing Jack down – they have important information that needs to get in the right hands, so Caroline sends him without her.

We flip flop back and forth – from the past to the present.

In the present we have Caroline in a hospital – waiting to recover so she can be taken into custody for treason and questioned.

In the past we have Caroline as a speaker of the house meeting Jack for the first time and starting her first relationship after her husband’s death.

EXCELLENT! Couldn't put it down!
From start to finish ... absolutely FLAWLESS!

After having read the first three books in this saga:

This series is my favorite discovery of 2015! I can't say enough good things about it. It's exquisitely well written with an intriguing plot, well developed characters and a really engaging and intelligent dialogue.

Please keep in mind that this is a six part saga, with the first three books being the first half of Caroline's journey. You won't get the whole picture in book one so I urge you to keep going. The series only gets better and better with each book!

BR with my BFF, TeriLyn! Always a pleasure, babe!

So just jumping into this blind was probably not a good idea or maybe it was. The prologue was fantastic and set a great scene for the start of a book.

 photo snowforest_zpslrawbd5r.gif

Then it just got really confusing for me over the following couple of chapters trying to get a hold on all the political talk, slowly starting to make sense the more I read.

 photo Washington D.C.-Capitol5_zpsri1z1w5o.gif

It is told in the third person which I am usually not fond of but as there was so much going on at times I didn't mind much. This story was also told in past and present with it mainly being told from the past so we get the start of Jack and Carolines relationship. I found the parts told from the present to be a little confusing and I wasn't sure what was going on.

 photo Lucy-Hale-No-Idea-Whats-Going-On-Here-Reaction-Gif_zpsdkj4r8si.gif

I thought that Caroline and Jack had lots of chemistry, during the book it did get a little hearts and flowers which I was not expecting from a book with such a intense prologue as this had. I enjoyed reading about Caroline and Jacks relationship my one major frustration with this was the teasing. Each time they were getting hot and heavy and it was just about to get good ;) it would STOP. If you know me at all you know I like a little bedroom action in books. I will and have read books with no sex in them and love those books but I am not expecting it to be there either. There is no love in me for the teasing that happened throughout this book.

 photo teasing_zpsj8ve08rs.gif

To sum up my confusing opinion of this book, I think it was a well laid out start to what looks like an intense drama series. I enjoy a mature drama and this seemed to be heading in the right direction. This book had a fantastic start, slow middle and ended the way it started.

I am going to attempt the next one when I am in the right mood, not sure I can handle more of the political talk it seemed to really erk me. I may have to add politics to my trigger list with religion.

I am in awe! There is just so much to say about this book, I don’t know where to even begin writing a review.

An absolutely brilliant, un-put-downable story of romance, politics and suspense. I didn’t just love this story, I loved HOW it was written. When starting this, immediately from the very first page, you’re thrown into this crazy dystopian world where the government is the enemy, Caroline and Jack are running for their lives and when found, a team of doctors trying to keep Caroline out of the clutches of the military.

How did she get there? How has she managed to become an enemy of the state? How did the entire government manage to land itself in chaos? Who can be trusted? Who is really an enemy and who is a friend? Where’s Jack?!

With all these many questions still swirling you’re thrown back to five years earlier where Jack and Caroline first meet. Against a backdrop of political mystery and dangerous unrest this first book in the series is still a beautiful and poignant love story between two intelligent and mature adults. In a bit of an enemies to friends, friends to lovers these two come together beautifully with their own share of baggage and secrets. The author did an amazing job of getting me invested in these two people even when I already knew they’d end up together and even amongst all the questions still stirring in my head.

This is a story told with such creativity and elegance, characters are developed not only by way of conventional storytelling but the plot unfolds itself through a series of conversations, flash backs and even the experiences of outsiders. It all flows seamlessly together. Really just a wonderfully written novel and definitely recommended!

I quickly became enamored with Cecilia London's writing when I actually enjoyed the storyline involving the injustice and conspiracies surrounding US politics.
The other storyline involves Caroline and Jack, our two protagonists, who fall in love progressively while in the middle of this dangerous opposition and position they are in.
Told in the past and present, with alternate chapters, worked perfectly. The past gave us the beginning of their relationship and we witness it blossom. The present focuses on them running for their lives and Caroline's horrifying ordeal.
Full of mystery and intrigue "Dissident" was a fantastic debut novel that ends with quite a cliffhanger and I can hardly wait to get back into the story, that had me totally captivated, with "Conscience" the next book in the Bellator Saga.
I highly recommend this romantic political thriller that will leave you wanting more.

I don’t read nearly enough romantic suspense/mysteries, which is surprising since it’s a sub-genre I like. This book combines romantic suspense with political intrigue that, in theory, should be right up my alley. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite hit the mark for me.

Dissident is the first full-length novel in a six book series. The story is told primarily in flashbacks. The prologue starts in the present and does a good job setting a suspenseful tone. However, it gives away a little too much information about the main characters’ relationship, and that took away some of my excitement in discovering if—and to what capacity—they would end up together. While I was initially caught up in Caroline and Jack’s romance, – although I couldn’t suspend belief enough to buy that player Jack slept with several hundred women – the progression is so slow I began to lose interest at times. Honestly, most of the flashbacks drag, and the occasionally repetitive dialogue only adds to that effect.

Caroline and Jack are likable and levelheaded overall, but the conflict between them at the end seems like it’s blown way out of proportion. Caroline overreacts to something that two adults should be able to rationally discuss, and it translates into manufactured drama.

On the plus side, I loved the tension and political mystery revolving around the characters in the present. We have no idea how our government crumbled into such a frighteningly corrupt state, or how Caroline and Jack wind up in the center of the action. I’m curious to see how the plot unfolds. At the same time, I’m wondering if there’s really enough story to spread out among six books.

When I started reading this book I know I’m in for a great ride…the beginning was already intense with Jack and Caroline running through the woods trying to cross the Canadian border. Intriguing, definitely! What on earth did Jack & Caroline did? It’s like the devil himself is running after them!

Caroline Gerard, Democratic congresswoman on the rise and then her husband got into a fatal car accident. Left with two small daughters to take care of, went into sort-of depression, with the help of friends she was able to see life into a better perspective. But not before she throws some harsh criticism to a promising congressman from the Republican Party named Jack McIntyre. Caroline regrets what she did and just waiting for an opportunity to make amends to the congressman. So, when Caroline met Jack in a party hosted by the Speaker of the House…

“I wanted to apologize for what I said about you during the campaign,” she said.

“Oh, you said many things, but the highlight was that little remark about how I was…what was it…’a millionaire playboy trying to buy his way into Congress.’”

“I shouldn’t have called you that,” she said. “It was an awful, terrible, slanderous thing to say and I deeply regret it. I thought about phoning you the next day to apologize but I figured you wouldn’t take my call.”

“I wouldn’t have taken your call then and I won’t accept your apology now. Washington’s a big town, Ms. Gerard. I think we can do our best to stay away from each other.”

Nothing to do but accept the fact that the congressman didn’t want her apology and as the night progress Jack & Caroline was able to see and talk to one another again and ironed-out whatever differences they have and beautiful friendship begun.

The prologue is the present time and flashback from how Jack and Caroline met. Then (back to present) Caroline confined in a hospital controlled by the government. You won’t get lost in the story for it will grip your attention from start to finish that’s how well written it was. I like Caroline, the heroine, who isn’t afraid to tell whatever in her mind, be it her political views or in bedroom with Jack, no wonder the congressman was smitten by this woman. You will definitely fall in love with Jack, the epitome of a dream man who is intelligent, passionate, a dirty-talker in bed, funny and above all, sexy.

Cecilia London was able to write a book that is suspenseful, gripping, enthralling, romantic, sexy and witty dialogue. Scene between Jack & Caroline, let me tell you it’s scorching hot!!!

Another new author I’m ready to stalk. Time well spent reading this book 1 of The Bellator Saga and can’t wait to start book 2 – Conscience since this book ends on a cliffhanger.

Not giving this one any rating...yet.
I truly enjoyed it but will give it a proper review after reading the whole trilogy.

With that being said, I'm fell in love with the easy friends to lovers going on and truly enjoyed this author's writing. She did a terrific job hooking me right in with an intriguing prologue and very good dialogues.
Now diving into book 2 because I need answers!!!

I'm not sure this is my favorite book in the series, but it was extremely fun to write and has some of the warmest scenes between the hero and heroine....at least, from the beginning of their relationship. And some of it makes me laugh.

I'm not a fan of politics, but I liked the frame it created.

Honestly, this book was unexpected. It hooked me in from the very first page, because dayum, it was the definition of "in medias res". I also liked how Jack and Caroline's love story progressed, especially given her background.

Something I found peculiar are their conversations. This books has lots of dialogues compared to the "thoughts" or "inner monologues" parts and I couldn't not appreciate it. The two MC discuss lots of things and it gave them a solid base as a couple.

As for hotness level, after a few disturbing fade-to-black, the steam picked up and it was highly sensual and well-done.

Did I love all of it? Not necessarily. I found myself skimming the short chapters regarding another POV that takes place in a kind of future, so to speak, and at times I felt like there wasn't enough character development. Jack seems to have not an issue in the world and as a couple they don't have much going against them. It was really low on the drama, until the very end, which terminated in a fucking cliffy.

Still, the next book is already out so I'll make sure to keep reading, even if maybe in a while because as I said, it was quite a nice read, original (given the politics setting, the almost dystopian premise, Jack being an older man, and their interactions which were so different from anything I've ever read), but I also weren't compelled 100% throughout the narration.

We all have political opinions, some more radical than others, and in theory, our representatives are acting in our interest. Party division runs rampant and a new regime is always possible. What if that regime was brutal, crushing and in their quest to silence the dissidents, found a way to make them disappear? We all hear of conspiracy theories, but in Dissident by Cecilia London, it is happening, right now and former politico Caroline’s life is now in the hands of this regime. Kidnapped, beaten and near death, she relives her past with all of its moments of pain, love and beauty.

Page one, Caroline and her governor husband, Jack are in a dash for their lives, desperate to reach Canada with highly sensitive information, and, I’m all eyes, ears and emotion as their present plight begins its flashbacks to better times, political machinations and their budding, if unusual romance. She is a liberal, Jack is part of the wealthy conservatives. As their feelings deepen, ugly truths are revealed and they go through the usual rollercoaster of emotions, although on an adult level, between two very public figures. Ahh, the gossip mills of the most powerful seat of power in the world. Amazing as it seems, politicians are people, too...as evidenced by Caroline and Jack!

Meanwhile big things are happening all around them and the fate of the country is in as much turmoil as the fate of their relationship.

Cecilia London has one powerful and chaotic series breaking out of the gates at full speed! Is it a political suspense novel? Romantic suspense? Dystopian political romantic suspense? All I know is this is one riveting tale that packs a wallop as the shadowed and dark secrets are blown wide open and evil lurks on every corner, building and government office. Who can be trusted? Who is behind this? Who wants Caroline and Jack silenced forever? At no point could I see where this would end up and I must say, the ride to the finish and balancing on the edge of this cliff hanger is well worth the ticket to ride!

Um. HELLO new favorite author of mine. What did I just read?! This spellbinding story took me somewhere that I have never been. To a world that I never thought was possible. And I cannot wait to go back.

Ok first, let’s chat about the prologue. THAT is how you start a book! We are immediately immersed into the story where Caroline and Jack must part ways. We don’t know how or why, but what we do know is that these two have so much love for each other. And the idea of them being apart hurts. I felt like I was there in that moment. Making the hardest decision in my life. That set the tone for me. I knew I needed to get deeper into this story.

We are introduced to politician Caroline Gerard, a widower with two small children. She has a blooming career in the House of Representatives. Enter John (Jack) McIntyre, a fellow politician whom Caroline said some not so nice things about. Through an apology and a drink these two start a friendship that becomes more over time. The attraction was always there. As Jack and Caroline spend more time together, these two easily become one of my favorite couples. Their love story is inspiring and beautiful.

This captivating and thrilling story will hold on to you. And not let go. This author is extremely talented. Brilliant. She is a master of words. The story is told in the present as well as a series as flashbacks. The author effortlessly transitions between the two. She is very strategic on how she places these time frame. You are so involved in the story that just when you think you’re getting somewhere, it transitions. Such a talent as I never fault lost or confused by the story. If anything, the transitions intrigued me more. Kept me wanting more.

As the prologue hints, everything in this political world is nothing as it seems. There is danger in this world. And lies. But where does it lurk? And with whom? When the story is told in the present, things start to slowly unfold. But how do Caroline and Jack eventually separate? How does she end up in that government hospital? And what do they want from her? So many questions. So much more to come. And I cannot wait!

I have to admit. I am a lover of romance. So when suspense is thrown in I am weary. Unsure. Do I take this leap? Suspense either works or it doesn’t. It either grabs you or it doesn’t. But this book? You don’t read it. You live the words. Experience the emotions. The suspense and romance has a PERFECT balance. The author puts you in the story. Places you within the hearts of her characters. She engrosses you into this couple and unique world of politics and mischief. And it’s addicting. Every page gets you deeper into the story and yet you still have no idea where it’s going. I was on edge. I clutched my e-reader. I have never experienced a story like this and probably never will.

Dissident was such an unexpected yet intriguing and magical read. I would also like to commend the author for writing such a strong and inspirational heroine. And Jack? My love for you is endless. That’s it. My goal in life is to find a Jack! The synopsis grazes the surface of the story. This is a chilling story of politics and love. And so much more. This author is in a class of her own. Her writing leaves you breathless as you are weaved through the pages of this book. I didn’t know I could love a story like this. Had no idea I needed to read something like this. If you are looking for a thought provoking, captivating read, then look no further. THIS book is it. Goodbye real life. I am about to go into hiding to devour book two.

After finishing this book I didn’t know how to feel about it. I was and still torn on some things. I found the blurb enticing and was hooked by the beginning of the book.

I was and still am fascinated by the plot and that California succeeded from America and that Texas was to be next. This is feasible and I believe that one day that it can happen maybe not now but at some point. Losing all your constitutional rights as a citizen.

Congressperson Caroline Gerard has been grieving for her husband the past year. She has had the help of friends but that wasn’t enough as she went for the rails endorsed an opponent and stuck her foot in her mouth big time.

Jack McIntyre is the one that Caroline insulted and not a New Year’s Eve party she apologizes but Jack is not that forgiving until a couple of birdy’s set him straight.

The Republican (Jack) and the Democrat (Caroline) strike up a friendship. More develops for Jack and Caroline but she is holding back they try a relationship and she is just waiting for the over shoe to drop.

Jack hasn’t always lived a moral life and through Caroline he realizes what he has been doing and missing. He has been a manwhore and the number is huge. But I still like him probably because he treats the heroine well apart from that one time but I think that she overacted.

For the overall book I’ve decided to give 4 stars. For me personally as I’m not that political and somethings were slightly repetitive 3 stars. So 3.5 stars but I’ve rounded up as there is potential but I might want to add that this is also a six part series had I known that I most likely would have waited for them to all come out and then read them. At least I have book 2 and will hopefully get book 3.

Ms. London set a solid foundation for the first book but with a six part book you going to have to. The interaction and the banter between the two was really good, funny, witty and enjoyable. Sometimes I found the political aspect to be a tad dry but that is just me.

I have the second book and I will read it.

4.5 Stars!

Jack and Caroline are on the run in a snow storm, trying to stay one step ahead of the soldiers who ran them off the road. They are protecting a flash drive, and as they make their way along their journey there are flashbacks, and little tidbits that clue us in to what they are protecting, and who is waiting for them on the other end.

Caroline, a young woman with two daughters; and Jack, a millionaire with political ties, are brought together in a time of political turmoil, where states are breaking off from the union, and no one in any form of political position of power can be trusted. As Caroline lies unconscious in a medical facility, after reaching out to Jack for help, the medical personnel attempt to keep her in a medically induced coma to protect her from the torture and trial for treason that awaits her.

So, how did these two characters meet and uncover a web of lies in the government and military? All of this is superbly explained with great character details, and a very realistic tale of the relationship between two unlikely allies in a time of political unrest. And while there is a good amount of detail surrounding the character development, the passages flow naturally, allowing the reader to stay engaged in the story that is unfolding...

Dissident laid a lot of groundwork for the series to come. A lot of character development was done, which i liked, because some character's can be rushed and you don't get a good enough feel for them.

I usually steer clear of politics in general, so this was a change of pace for me. A political dissident and a politician didn't seem like my usual cup of tea. I'm so glad I decided to go ahead.

The prologue definitely wasn't what I was expecting. It drew me in immediately.

 photo IMG_20151122_144027_zpswgmgupw8.jpg

Caroline, the dissident and recently windowed single mother meets Jack the playboy politician, they seemed like the unlikeliest pair to fall in love. But their love blossomed, it wasn't an overnight rushed romance. It took it's time, and grew momentum gradually.

Caroline is wonderful, she comes across as such a lovely, intelligent woman, Monty is definitely lucky to have her.....or had.

Jack the silver fox with the six pack, he wasn't the typical book boyfriend I'm used to reading. But the way Cecilia described him and how he came across, I found him highly attractive, a little lonely and in need of the love of a good woman.
I loved how Caroline wasn't perfect, she had been through childbirth, and had the stretch marks to prove it.

The love scene's aren't full on, a lot is left to the imagination, which again was a nice change in pace.

 photo FB_IMG_1443638070878_zpsewu8etfv.jpg

Dissident is a cleverly written book, and I found myself checking the dictionary once or twice : )

Murdock, one word; Slimeball. I hope he gets his comeuppance.

Poor Caroline and those four "so called soilders," turned my stomach. I hope Conscience sheds some incite into why Jack went. I'm not sure I would have left, but I can't really commit to that until I've read the full series.

Big cliffy, I'm eager to see where this story goes. 5 stars to Cecilia ♡

**4.5 stars!!**

Cecilia London knows how to write! I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy Dissident at first, I’m normally one to run in the other direction when it comes to books with political tie ins. However, I knew I was in for a treat from the minute I started reading the prologue. I was hooked and desperately wanted to know more about Caroline and Jack, what was happening to them, why were they running, and what the future had in store for them.

When I found out Jack’s character was a millionaire playboy, I thought, here come the cliches! But that was definitely not the case. The passion between them in dangerous, but what I loved the most was how affectionate Jack was without it feeling forced or exaggerated. The romance and how their relationship is portrayed to readers is nothing like all the other fluff I’ve read. Due to Jack and Caroline’s age I feel like there connection was realistic and mature. Caroline is the kind of character that I can’t picture anyone hating. I found her to be very realistic and witty. The banter between them was refreshing!

Dissident is told in both the past and present. In the past we get to know the characters and a deep understanding of them and how they met. I really enjoyed the past because not only did we really get to know the characters but I loved how we get to see their relationship grow. The present plot really focuses on Caroline’s state in the hospital. As much as I did enjoy the present plot, I wanted more.

Overall, Dissident was a fantastic debut book, I can’t wait to get my hands on Conscience!! August feels so far away! I need to know what’s going to happen next in both the present and past! If you’re looking for a book with character development, scenes that will make your toes curl, and a plot that will keep you hooked from beginning to end then I suggest getting your hands on Dissident.

☆ I received an ARC/RC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ! ☆

I’ll be the first to admit, when I was asked to read and review this book, I was a bit skeptical.

However, after reading through my friend Carol’s review and other goodreads and Amazon reviewers thoughts, I decided to see what all of the great buzz was.

Dissident was very different from the book genres I normally pick up to read. I think this is what intrigued me and captured my attention the most about it. In a good way, that is.

What worked for me was the mature vibe and feel from the main characters and the plot line. It didn’t feel over the top and layered with a bunch of nonsense, and, the MC’s had great rapport and development.

I also liked the whole political power imbalance, the squabbles and injustice of it, as well as the conspiracies surrounding it and Caroline and Jack. It added a whole level of edge seeing our protagonists fall in love while in the middle of this dangerous opposition and position that they are in.

The only take back from all of this, was that I did not understand certain idioms and use of language that were utilized at times. But hey, maybe that’s just on me for not paying attention in class during high school and not following with our news and government policies and all.

Anyway, a thrilling and suspenseful read that keep you intrigued and constantly on your toes!! Bring on bk2 in August!
