Zoe's Triple Chocolate Cupcakes are to die for... literally!
Willowbrook is as pretty as a postcard, and just what Zoe Hartman needs for a fresh new start. Having fled from a brilliant culinary career to this rural town, she's determined to make her cafe and bakery the new Starbucks for all the residents of Willowbrook. But when her cupcake accidentally kills the mayor on her opening day, the word around town is anything but positive for Zoe. She's unwilling to let this go on, especially when she knows she's not the one to blame. The police are unwilling to see it as anything more than an accident 'for her own good' but in a town as small as Willowbrook, reputation is all that matters.
Backed by her truant assistant Lacey who's keener than she is to play Sherlock Holmes, Zoe's gotta find the dirt on the mayor and uncover just who pinned this heinous crime on her, before the new life she's built comes crumbling down around her.
Cute, cozy mystery. A new business owner opens a bakery in a small town (Willowbrook). With her first catering job, she has a death - the Mayor. News spreads quickly and her grand opening is anything but grand. Due to the cause of death, which the police feel may have been accidental, Zoe is determined to redeem her reputation and make a go of the business. Could use a little more editing.
Zoe is new to town and opening a bakery. But on opening day, she also has to cater a meeting for the mayor with her famous double chocolate cup cakes. When taste tested by the yoga teacher, they are pronounced a huge success/ However one bite and the mayor falls down and dies. As the gossip spreads rampidly through the town, everyone accuses Zoe of murdering the mayor. In an effort to prove her innocence, Zoe and her employee Lacey, start investigating. Many ideas are discussed and people interviewed. Logical conclusions don't turn out the expected way. Come meet Zoe and Lacey and some other key players in this series. It is a fast and fun chance to see if you can figure it out before Zoe does.
This was a good first book of a series. I feel like I know Zoe and Lacey pretty well. The mystery was satisfying with just enough action and a hint of danger. I look forward to the second book coming out.
I truly enjoyed this book! I stumbled upon it looking for cozy mysteries from another author and took a chance. I'm hooked. Going to go look for the next book in this series. Definitely recommend.
