De Griezelbus 3 was zijn tijd ver vooruit. Misschien iets minder dan delen 1 en 2, maar desalniettemin een ontzettend prettig boek met minstens zoveel sentimentele waarde.

This is the last griezelbus I know for sure I’ve read and owned as a kid, and while it’s still a lot of fun I do remember liking it the least. Something about the tech focussed bits of the wraparound didn’t sit quite right with kid me, although I must admit on reread it was a lot better then I remembered. I also really enjoyed the use of pop culture references in this book, its nothing new to the franchise (I mean Fredy Kruger was mentioned by name In part 2) but this entry really made me appreciate how much of van loons love for the horror genre shines trough with every single one of them. Since most of the movies he mentions were way to scary for me as a kid I remember both not getting a lot of the references but also being intrigued and wanting to learn more, which is perfect for a gateway horror novel like this.
The theme this time around is buildings, and while it isn’t as thematically connecting as the last one it still managed to lead to some pretty fun story’s with plenty of scares, so let’s dive in and get to ranking them.
8. Het Kerkhof + wraparound narrative
I spend a lot of time debating if I should even put this one on here and then even more time on where to put it. Because even though this chapter has the placement and title of a short story its actually just part of the wraparounds finale. Which is a nice segway into my biggest problem with this book. 8 short story’s was already less then I would have liked so imagine my disappointment when I realised that there were really only 7.
Instead this book spends a lot more time on the wraparound, and while I have come around to its story a bit its still the weakest in the series. This time around we follow four kids who during a school trip tot the automobile museum get lured into the griezelbus by Eddy C., one of last books protagonists turned into a vampire by Onoval. There he uses technology to put them into the AW (Andere Werkelijkheid) A subdimension where all the creatures Onoval writes about reside. Onovals ghost meets them here and tells them scary story’s culminating in het kerkhof in which he tries to rewrite the ending of the last book and resurrecting himself by sacrificing another set of children. His plans get foiled when the schoolteacher shows up and rescues the kids by pulling them back to reality, leaving Onoval once again stuck in the AW.
I have a lot of mixed feelings on this wraparound. I absolutely loved when in the final 4 short story’s the captured children became the main characters instead of being passive observers. Being in the AW also allowed the titular griezelbus to finally act like an actual bus, driving them to and from the buildings where the scary story’s take place. So having this story fully take place inside the AW was a fantastic choice, my big issue lies in how they get there. The kids just putting on glorified virtual reality goggles felt kind of at odds with the rest of the series. The horror in de Griezelbus is so monster focussed that suddenly adding this technology angle feels really out of place, it really should have been some kind of magic that transported them to the AW. Even though I disliked the AW helmets I do love how in the finale the school teacher uses them to trap Eddy C. in the AW and his subsequent demise at the hands of Onoval. I will forever be thankful for this series willingness to straight up murder children.
7. De Antiekwinkel
When a boy acquires an amulet that turns him into a monster he finally gets the chance to get back at his bullies, the power gets to his head and he ignores the shopkeepers warning to only use it when absolutely necessary resulting in him getting permanently stuck in his monstrous form. This admittedly fun story is brought down by two major issues. Number one its long, way too long, its almost double the length of the other tales and for no apparent reason. Coupled with the fact that this book already has another, and way better example of a Faustian bargain, this tale feel like its taking up way too much space in the already too small roster of stories.
6. de zolderkamer
A fun start of the book, following a boy who swaps places with the videogame vampire he’s controlling. Its short, has a fun twist but outside of the implied murder of his family at the end never ends up being all that scary which is kind of a bummer. Its placing at the start coupled with the intro also had me thinking the book would be a lot more technology focussed then it was, or maybe “types of (horror) media” which I think would have been a great theme for a griezelbus book, this one comes kind of close having 3 stories focussed on games, books, tv/movies but I would love a full book like that.
5. Het flatgebouw
So fun fact this story was my, and I’m guessing most Dutch children’s, first exposure to the griezelbus franchise being the scary campfire story featured in the second dolfje weerwolfje novel. Maybe it’s because even as a first time reader I already knew what the twist was, but in comparison to the last two werewolf story’s this one is way more predictable and a lot less interesting. The story is still fun and I must give props to the wolf being named peter as a fun nod to the symphonic fairytale of peter and the wolf.

A pretty scary story masterfully building on children’s fear of high diving boards and enhancing it with a shitload of undead creatures. It is a bit longer then necessary but makes up for it by feeling surprisingly cinematic. The zombies were also quite terrifying but stil not as traumatizing as my irl school swimming instructor calling me the dutch equivalent of a faggot because I didn’t dare to dive from the dive board during swim class.

Basically just Paul van Loon complaining about his workload before getting killed via demonic secretary, absolutely perfect, no notes.

The moment this story mentioned “De Griezel CD” by V.O.F. De Kunst it instantly became one of my favourites. De Griezel CD is yet another crucial piece of childhood media that shaped me into the horror fan I am today. Being a collections of scary songs for children about partying monsters, big spiders and “de Glieber-Glibber Trol”, Its funny, scarry and a bit naughty which in my opinion is the trifecta of perfect kids media.
Anyways onto the story itself, because man what a fun time this one is. It follows Lydia, a young horror fanatic who uses her knowledge of the genre to win a contest. Her reward? A real live zombie trying to eat her. The story starts of really fun with this weird tv show and becomes surprisingly thrilling when the zombie shows up. I must admit I don’t really like the whole zombies are weak to salt thing plot device but it doesn’t bother me all that much. The thing that really elevates this tale is its main character. Lydia is such a perfect representation of young horror nerds and the way kids are naturally drawn to the genre, showing once again that van Loon Really understands his audience.

The story follows a young girl who, after a bicycle crash, ends up in the hospital. But something isn’t quite right, some of the things the nurse tells her don’t seem to add up, instead of getting better her energy depletes more and more each day, and why has her mom not shown up to visit her? I absolutely adore the way that this tale is written, its basically a psychological thriller for children. Its unnerving and just like the bloodsucking monster it features really manages to get under your skin. Couple that with a classic “the monster lives” horror ending and you get what is probably the scariest griezelbus story yet.
So even though it is by far the weakest of the original 3 novels this entry stil manages to cram in a few good scares and a lot of fun story’s, I just wish there had been more of them. Luckily there are still a few more books in this franchise to go, because with de griezelbus 4 up next We're entering uncharted territory where I have no idea what kind of monsters Paul van Loons beautiful has in store.

Het boek is verrassend spannend voor een jeugdboek. De Griezelbus 3 is de derde reeks van in totaal 8 boeken.
Het verhaal begint bij een vreemd persoon die zich zelf snijdt en bloed laat vallen op een boek, dit speelt zich allemaal af in een kerkhof. De persoon verdwijnt daarna.
Er wordt een sprong gemaakt van 2 jaar in de tijd. Het verhaal gaat verder met groep 8 die op bezoek gaat naar het automuseum Autotron. De leerlingen van groep 8 zijn op stap met meester Jacques. Vier leerlingen Richard, Shakir, Berry en Lydia lopen weg van de groep en belanden bij de Griezelbus. Eddy C vraagt aan de kinderen of ze de nieuwe reality helmen zouden willen uitproberen. Ze moeten dan wel in de bus stappen zodat ze een reis kunnen maken in de Andere Werkelijkheid (AW).
Daar blijkt dat de slechte schrijver Onnoval (uit de vorige reeks) nu vast zit in een computerprogramma waar hij door het vertellen van zijn verhalen weer tot leven probeert te komen. De leerlingen krijgen allemaal een rol in het verhaal. Hierdoor worden ze onderdeel van het verhaal en moeten ze alles doen wat Onnoval voorgeschreven heeft. Behalve Shakir. Hij is zo bang dat het Onnoval niet lukt om van Shakir een personage te maken.
Uiteindelijk weet hun meester Jacques ze te redden en ontsnappen ze aan Onnoval.
Het is een spannend verhaal en de soms gruwelijke personages worden zo goed beschreven dat je een goede voorstelling kunt maken van hoe diegene er uit zou kunnen zien. Dat vind ik knap gedaan.
Ik zou dit boek zeker aanraden als je van een spannend en ook een beetje griezelig verhaal houdt.

De griezelbus,
Wie kent deze (in mijn ogen) beroemde reeks niet?
Ik was vroeger fan van Paul van Loon (stiekem nog steeds een beetje) en heb al
de Griezelbus 0 en Griezelbus 1 gelezen. Ik moet bekennen dat ik deze deel toch het leukst vind.
Het gaat over groep acht die samen met meester Jacques op een excursie zijn in het Autotron museum.
Vier kinderen genaamd Shakir, Lydia, Berry en Richard sluipen weg tijdens de excursie.
Ze komen terecht bij de griezelbus en krijgen van Eddy.C virtual-reality helmen, die ze brengen naar de Andere Wereld (AW). Helaas voor hun blijkt de AW toch niet zo mooi te zijn.
Wat ik zo leuk vind aan het boek, is dat het past in de belevingswereld van de kinderen. Tegenwoordig kunnen wij ook een andere 'wereld' betreden door middel van virtual reality brillen.
De angst van de personages is daarom begrijpelijk.
Wat ik altijd zo leuk vind van de schrijver, is dat hij met makkelijke woorden soms veel kan zeggen.
Taalgebruik is niet moeilijk en de illustraties ondersteunen het boek goed.
Kortom, wil je een spannend boek lezen dat past bij de belevingswereld van kinderen en met niet te moeilijk taalgebruik dan raad ik je het boek zeker aan!

Während ich im zweiten Teil zwar die Randstory gut fand, jedoch die einzelnen Gruselgeschichten nicht so überzeugend fand, ist es im dritten Teil genau anders herum. Dieses Mal spielt die Geschichte in einem alten Automuseum, in dem die Charaktere Shakir, Lydia, Berry und Richard von einer Führung abhauen und dabei auf Eddy C. und den Gruselbus stoßen. Dieser ist technisch aufgerüstet und Eddy C. verspricht den Kindern eine Reise in die andere Wirklichkeit, wo sie Geschichten vom Schriftsteller Onnoval ähnlich wie mit VR erleben können. Die einzelnen Geschichten drehten sich diesmal um das Thema Gebäude und besonders die Geschichte "Das Schwimmbad" und "Das Horrorstudio" haben mir sehr gut gefallen. Insgesamt sind die Geschichten in dem Teil aber innovativ und drehen sich auch mal um bisher wenig verwendete Monster wie beispielsweise Mumien.

Una classe è in gita al museo dell’automobile di Autotron.
Quattro ragazzini si stanno annoiando e decidono di fuggire, imbattendosi nell’Autobus del brivido. Salgono a bordo, allettati dalla possibilità di viaggiare in un’altra realtà con dei dispositivi per la realtà virtuale. Ad un certo punto, Onnoval inizia a raccontare le sue storie, coinvolgendo e spaventando i ragazzini fino all’avvincente epilogo.
I miei bambini adorano questa serie e non ne sono mai sazi, le storie sono piuttosto paurose per loro, ma non tali da non farli dormire la notte. Lo stile è scorrevole e ogni bambino si può identificare con un personaggio diverso, in modo da coinvolgerli maggiormente.
Appena finita la lettura, mi hanno chiesto il capitolo successivo!
Consigliato a partire dai 9/10 anni.

Ik vond deze serie vroeger heel erg eng. Paul van Loon schrijft in zo'n spannende manier dat ik het boek gewoon niet neer kon leggen. Nu ik wat ouder ben, zie ik dat het boek net op het randje ligt. Er wordt niet echt iemand vermoordt en als het gebeurt, dan niet in detail. Ik zou dit boek aanraden voor wat oudere kinderen, die de fantasie van de werkelijkheid kunnen onderscheiden. Er bestaat namelijk helemaal geen griezelacademie of een geest in een zwembad. Dit boek is hartstikke leuk om te gebruiken tijdens Halloween. Het is namelijk wel echt een griezelboek.

Nieuwe slachtoffers worden uitgekozen voor een ritje op De Griezelbus. Kunnen de nieuwe scholieren dit keer allemaal onstnappen, of wordt er weer eentje gebeten om te dienen? Gotta love een vampier/weerwolf schrijver die de controle kwijt raakt over zijn eigen verhaal.
Griezelbus went matrix!!! Erg leuk bedacht. Hoewel, de rode draad voelt toch een beetje repetitief na de andere boeken. De raamvertellingen waren wel het beste en meest spannend tot nu toe. Ik hou ervan hoe meta dit boek soms gaat.
Weet niet zo goed of meester Jaques nou een exorcist nodig heeft of naar therapie moet voor zijn agressieproblemen. :p

Wederom een fantastische raamvertelling vol griezelligheden! De introductie van en de Andere Werkelijkheid zijn geweldige vondsten. Leuk om, nu VR zo'n tastbaar feit is, te lezen hoe Paul van Loon dit zijn eigen invulling gaf, meer dan 20 jaar geleden!
De Griezelbus-formule klopt nog steeds als een bus, en nergens voelt het boek aan als een herhaling van zetten (terwijl het dat eigenlijk wel is). Hulde!

De eerste paar verhalen zijn matig, maar de tweede helft is weer op volle sterkte. Een klassieke Griezelbus. Overigens zijn de illustraties van de nieuwere editie echt hopeloos.

De griezelbus gaat over een jongen die gepest wordt op school. Hij wordt van zijn fiets getrapt en valt op de rails met zijn hoofd. Hij wordt daarna wakker en er staat een lange man met een stok en een hoed met een sigaar in zijn mond. Die man is een weerwolf, hij vertelt dat Onnoval anders is dan de andere. Vandaar dat iedereen hem pest. 20 jaar later wordt hij schrijver. Onnoval is de hoofdfiguur in dit verhaal. Hij schrijft verhalen in een groot boek. .Onnoval is alleen in de nacht bezig met boeken schrijven. In mijn beleving wil het boek vertellen wanneer je gepest wordt dat mensen dat doen omdat ze jaloers zijn of omdat je anders bent dan dat zij zijn. Het verhaal is niet in chronologische volgorde geschreven, het gaat van het standpunt van Onnoval naar de bende van drie en terug naar Onnoval.
Dit verhaal is een fantasie verhaal met erg sterke punten die terug kunnen komen in het dagelijks leven. Zo leer je tijdens het leven een beetje hoe je ermee zou moeten omgaan maar ook om lekker te lezen in een boek en erover te fantaseren.

January 21, 2019Vroeger las ik zelf al graag de griezelbus, maar nu ik een stagiair in de bovenbouw ben, ben ik weer opnieuw begonnen met het verdiepen in verschillende kinderboeken. De griezelbus sprak mij vroeger al enorm aan door de spannende verhalen die er in staan. Dit boek begint met een stukje wat al erg spannend is, terwijl ik me ook al meteen afvroeg wat er eigenlijk gebeurde. Het gaat over een jongen die over een kerkhof loopt en eenmaal op dat kerkhof gebeurt er van alles. Zo komt er iemand uit een graf en komt er veel bloed in voor. Ik moest zelf wel even slikken. Ik vond dit stuk eigenlijk meteen vrij heftig voor kinderen uit groep 7 of 8. Verder in dit boek komt er een stuk minder hak en snijwerk aan bod. Dit compenseert en ik denk dat dit eerste stuk de kinderen ook meteen in het boek trekt. Veel kinderen uit mijn stageklas lezen in de leestijd ook de griezelbus. Paul van Loon weet de hele reeks spannend en verrassend te houden.
