Kennedy Daniels is young, beautiful and successful. But she’s like a lot of women who have been hurt in love. She is guarded, angry, and dead set on not repeating the same mistakes again. But if the way she treats men is the way she intends to continue through life, she won’t have to worry about attracting a man to have a relationship with, at all. Her sharp tongue and her trigger-happy attitude is a turn off, and not something she expected to ever be confronted about. But then she meets him... Javier Zamora is a man’s man who is very much a straight shooter. He’s not here for the games or the bullshit. When he ends up calling Kennedy out on her behavior, sparks fly--but not in a good way; and what was supposed to be a blind date, set up by good friends, ends in a bitter battle of words. After the exchange, Kennedy and Javier part ways, but the sting of Javier’s words remain. This chain of events, forces Kennedy to take a long hard look at herself, and what she sees, she doesn't quite like. On the heels of her epiphany, Kennedy decides that a getaway is what she needs. She wants to take that time to reconnect, soul-search, check the areas of her life that need work. But then the unexpected happens... hers and Javier's paths cross once again. Just like the first time they met, sparks fly. However, whether or not they fly in the same direction as before, remains to be seen.
I had up my previous bio for years! It was nice and all, and gave details of my life. But it was so structured! And I’m kinda not. Because of that, I’ve decided to change it to something that really gives you a glimpse into who I am. Is that cool? K, good. So, here goes:
I’m a Bay Area girl. Cali is in my blood! I moved to Vegas in 2017 (No, I wasn’t following the Raiders!) to see how another way of life would be, after my only kid . . . the love of my life . . . decided he was joining the Marines. Can you believe that?! Sigh. Wait, deep sigh! I know some parents await the day for their kids to leave, not this Mama. That was my ace, my bestie in male form. I had to hit the reset button. But here I am. He’s thriving. I’m ‘trying’ to thrive. Lol! No, but really. This relocation was good because I’ve never lived away from home. So, I needed to grow, cultivate a little. It’s working for now.
I consider myself a novelist. And that’s because a novelist doesn’t just write in one genre. For the most part, I write #InterracialRomance, with a primary focus on #BWWM, as my leads. However, I have written a few novels that fell comfortably in the #AfricanAmericanFiction realm, showcasing some #BlackLove. In short, I love building stories. I like to say that I “spin #Sexy and #Suspense into a single web.” The two dynamics have to co-exist in my stories, or I’m bored. And you know if the author is bored with their own work, there’s a problem! Trust me, I’ve done plenty of rewrites when that’s happened.
On my literary journey, I just hope to always write the stories that women find relatable. Characters who are strong, but vulnerable when they need to be. Family-focused, and intelligent. Basically, mirror images of myself. Ironically, writing these characters, have helped me discover things about myself along the way. I think that’s why I write as often as I do. It’s almost like peeling back layers of me as I go. And to stop that process, kind of hits the pause button on me . . . my life . . . my existence. I have to be a moving machine at all times. Does that get stressful? Absolutely. But is it rewarding and are there many teachable moments? Absolutely!
Ever need me, reach out. Ever got questions, I’m never too busy to respond.
The book was ok but I'm just Trynna figure out what was the purpose of this book . I found myself reading but wasn't really paying attention . I like that the sex scene wasn't overly scripted. the scene was painted well . I think this is a short story that needs more filling !
Perri boo crazy Kennedy n Roxanne are so u! Thanx for this gift The enlightenment of how resentment n contentment can carry over anger n become guarded to always be in fight mode. But I do see Kennedy in many of us and it does take a person to give it to us raw n direct and to handle us. Can't wait for the ups downs overcome n love in the end for them.
It took a total stranger to help Kennedy realize that her behavior and attitude had become toxic. So, she went on a retreat to rediscover herself but found so much more. Javier was exactly who she needed to help Kennedy step outside of her norm and to explore a new way of doing things that awakened her emotionally and physically.
Initially I thought Javier was very abrupt and too outspoken. I understood why Kennedy was guarded with all the issues she had in her previous relationships. Once they connected it was on. Wow!
A Woman With A Shattered Heart and A Man With the Cure for What Ails Her.
Kennedy was a very relatable heroine. She embodied so many characteristics of the everyday woman with a string of bad relationships and I identified with her so much. I enjoyed the awakening that she experienced after meeting Javier and I was glad to see her find the peace that she had been searching for and missing for so long.
Javier was an unexpected surprise to me. Naturally I expected him to be a muy caliente Latin lover, but I was impressed by his mind and the truths he spoke to Kennedy. It is a rare male hero these days that is more than flattering words and good sex. Ms. Forrest has created an interesting male lead. I loved how patient he was and that he bothered to take the time to get to know Kennedy after their disastrous first meeting. I'm looking forward to seeing where this story continues next.
Kennedy definitely experienced her awakening. I like how Javier read her to a tee and didn't allow her attitude to keep him from saying how he saw her. Javier's approach was long overdue and I'm glad Kennedy took heed to what he said once she calmed down. Who knew a well needed getaway would create so much more. Kennedy had her moments but I was glad once she finally let her guard down. Lawd Javier is clearly that dude! Being honest allowed Javier to break barriers within Kennedy. I really enjoyed this story and it proves the truth can do more good than harm.
Kennedy's Awakening is a light-hearted short story about a woman who is pretty much done with love. She is so used to being mistreated that she has a wall up for anyone new that may attempt to come into her life. Kennedy ventures out with her friend and meets a man who puts her in her place...literally and makes her realize the error of her ways. She sulks, of course, but when they meet again, nothing can stop the fireworks that happen between them. This is a great short read that will have you wanting more.
The title fits the story. Kennedy definitely got an awakening. She had been mistreated by men so much, that she had given up on love. But that changed. Who knew that the one man that she met at a party who put her in her place, would be the one to change her perspective of men later on. This is the type of read that myself as well as other women can relate to. I highly recommend it.
MY FIRST READ BY THIS AUTHOR AND I REALLY ENJOYED IT. KENNEDY WAS LIKE ALOT OF WOMEN WHO HAVE BEEN HURT IN THE PASS. SHE HAD A WALL UP TO EVERY MAN SHE MET UNTIL SHE MEETS JAVIER AND HE KNOCKS THAT WALL DOWN. HE TELLS HER SOMETHINGS SHE NEEDS TO HEAR ABOUT HERSELF TO GET HER TO OPEN HER EYES ON HER PASS BEHAVIOR. GREAT READ
Love this story. Kennedy and Javier were great together. The friends were really true and caring . Hope for more to come. Love to know the reaction in detail of Tariq when he realized Kennedy had a new man. As always Ms Forrest you gave us a great story. Thanks
I definitely enjoyed this short story.. It was short but nothing was left out.. I loved tha fact tha once Kennedy got hit with a dose of reality she was able to accept it and make achange for the better.. This was my 1st ready by Ms Forrest but definitely not the last.. Great job..
Kennedy thought she had all of the answered concerning men until she met Javier. Javier manages to break down some of the walls that she put up. Great book.
It took me a while to finally read this book...bot oh my. I'm glad I did. I was drawn in by Kennedy's bitterness. Because like so many women she stood in a situation that was over long before she walked away and it broke her and changed her into someone she didn't even recognized.....and then came him....can't wait to read part 2!!!! Good job Perri
I love reading books written by black women and this book did not disappoint! It was the first book I read by this author and it totally made me add the rest of her books to my “want to read” list!
