Reading through this book, it's hard to believe that it was first published nearly 30 years ago. The information contained within is very intriguing, and written in a form that has seem to be lost in the last two decades, a form which has made Brad a master in the field of research of the unknown...straight forward research journalism. Contained within are arguments which platform thesis of which have gained scaling reviews from academic science...proof that takes both creation and darwinism back to square one... that humans and advanced societies have been around far longer than any textbooks have supposed.
This author, like many of the others, seems to believe that Creationism was 100% literal, that because we underestimate the intelligence and capabilities of ancient people, they must have been super-technological super-geniuses, that ancient stories and legends are all similar because they are relating actual events which happened throughout the world rather than perhaps have a common origin in an oral story-telling tradition, and that the world is on the verge of imminent self-destruction through nuclear immolation, thus we need to learn the lessons of the ancients (admittedly, most of these were written during the Cold War, so this can be excused). If you can swallow all of that, then these books are just for you. Otherwise, you'll roll your eyes as hard as I did.
Again, I would like to say that in this age of the internet with Google, Wikipedia, and thousands of other reputable sources, one can easily research in just but a few minutes how everything that the author proposes as "evidence" either does not exist (there are repeated mentions of how ancient bones were unearthed and instantly disintegrated upon exposure to the air - but here's a signed affidavit, so it must be true - or how a "scientist" has discovered thousands of rock-etchings to prove his theories but he isn't going to tell you where he found them for "protection"), has been proven to be completely untrue or something else, or was horribly misinterpreted, and thus these crackpot ideas should be dead, dead, dead. But, you've been on the internet, just like I have, and know that there are thousands of "conspiracy websites."
I mean...it's still kind of a fun and/or interesting read, and absolutely silly. Look, here's a stone etching of ancient Egyptians watching a Television that they manufactured. Yes, there's no evidence of any Egyptian power plants, or any infrastructure to build televisions, or any of the necessary industrial steps necessary to get to the capability to build a television, or a television studio...and why the Egyptians are still etching pictures into rocks when they apparently have television, and thus a fully modern society - but forget all that - ooh, look aliens!
This is the second such book I have read. The first was Discovering Mysteries of Ancient America. Both of these books have led me to question everything I was taught in school about our history. I have grown to love learning about things that don't fit or belong in the logical world we live in.
Many different ideas and philosophies presented in a concise and clear way. Some of the ideas where a bit far fetched but that is to be expected from an 'alternate thinker' like Mr Steiger. This is about the fourth book that I have read from this author and I always am impressed with the consistency of his belief. I found this book to be a creditable book that is worthy of discussion and debate. Thank you Mr Steiger.
Amazing that this book preceded Graham Hancock's Fingerprints of the Gods by almost 20 years. I'm shocked that it has been out of print because of its "radical" and challenging ideas. Yet another example of how an intellectual establishment will reject ideas that can challenge and shake a theory to its core. Truly a masterpiece of evidence for a highly advanced global intercultural civilization lost to antiquity. Proof that we know little of our origins as a species.
