Unknown Border is about an intrepid outdoors man and tour guide who dreams of an expedition into the restricted area beyond the small mountain community of Redwood, Washington. When his requests are blocked at every turn, he becomes more determined than ever to venture into the unexplored wilderness on the promise of untouched pristine fishing and hunting grounds. When a hardened warden clashes with him and seems to question his skills and ability to handle what the wild can throw at him, he uses his father's contacts to gain the necessary permits and authorisation. They say pride comes before a fall, and this turns out to literally be the case when he discovers the hunting grounds are indeed perfect, but they are not his to claim. Something monstrous has already staked out its territory and is willing to kill to defend it.

I was immediately drawn to Beth, who although isn't the main character, in my opinion is the most likeable and 'human'. However, she, like most of the female characters could have been much more dynamic and responsible for driving the story line rather than preparing lunches and worrying about the menfolk. The story overall reads a little rustic when it comes to the female roles. I had a hard time with most of the other characters. I found Scott increasingly arrogant and almost deserving of his fate. His father Ace was a little too slimy and cocky for my liking too. Much more could have been made of Hank the warden and his back story too. But the characters are believable; I just found myself not really caring if they lived or died as it was hard to like most of them!

The story is well paced, and the reader is pulled into the narrative quickly. The rampage of the creature is thrilling and more than enough to keep you engaged. Once we find ourselves with Scott in the restricted area, things really take off and you'll find yourself finishing most chapters on a cliffhanger that will tempt you to read on just that little bit more.

One of my gripes however were the numerous missed opportunities, loose ends and lack of details that peppered the book. A childhood encounter recalled by an elderly game warden is never concluded nor followed up on for instance. A main character's possible demise is also never really concluded, and the reader is left assuming rather than knowing. The creature's motivation is rather flimsily dealt with and concluded in a few sentences at the end of the book. And in the vast, beautiful wilderness bursting with animal and plant life, we rarely are given any descriptions, species names or other details. A great deal of the decisions and actions of the supposed outdoors man seem rather reckless and made me question his skills and ability too.

Overall, the Kindle edition was good value and Unknown Border made for an entertaining read, but for me, it didn't deliver on the full potential of the setting, the characters or even the creature itself.

This is a fantastic book! I could not put it down and finished it in just 2-3 days. It is extremely well written and the character development is outstanding. The dialogue is authentic and contributed to my sense of knowing and caring about each one of the characters. Vivid descriptions made me feel like I was right there in the beautiful - and then terrifying - woods of Washington State. It surprised me from start to finish with its many twists and turns – and I loved the unexpected ending. Looking forward to the next book by this author!

To kill or not to kill Bigfoot

An interesting story about the more aggressive type of Bigfoot that we hear of on occasion. An area of deep woods left undisturbed for decades has been breached and the threat will not go unpunished. Interesting story, not suggested for bedtime as you may not sleep for days afterwards.

Wow!!💜

This was a great thriller. I loved the storyline, the mystery, the intrigue the anticipation, I couldn’t put this book down.
I was excited to see what was going to happen the entire book.
The narration was amazing. Roberto Scarlato absolutely nailed each character, old, young, male or female his ability to tell a story is brilliant.
I recommend this book!

I really enjoyed this book - without giving away any spoilers my favourite parts were how the author described the various conversations and the related surroundings throughout the book - the chosen verbiage was realistic and relatable which I found made it entirely believable. Often, a chapter would end with a comment or observation which left me contemplating not only it's relevance to the story but also it's "philosophical" meaning on a larger scale to my own life. In fact, I found throughout the book many examples of relating to the author's view of the world. My brother also read the book and loved it.

What a great trip!

If you like lots of horror involving Sasquatch, you will love this book! From the beginning, I was drawn into the characters and their situations. When you get a group of friends together for a camping trip to a location which has been restricted, you get the camping trip from hell. I really expected the author would end this book a different way but I was impressed with the different twists at the end. I love a book which leaves me wanting more and this one did!

A compelling, fresh storyline from beginning to end! Unique and action packed throughout! I was kept captive through descriptive narrative and grasping accounts. It was extremely easy to relate to the characters, each very unique, adding life to this exciting storyline. I was intrigued how the author was able to incorporate various elements of emotion, heart-pounding then sometimes quite enchanting, adding further depth to the main plot. Would highly recommend this engaging story!

The action is fast and non-stop, the dialogue crisp and realistic, the characters thinly drawn but likeable. This is a superior action and mystery/adventure novel, with plenty of cliff-hanger moments, with a plot that twists and turns, keeping the reader on edge chapter after chapter. I recommend this enthusiastically to anyone who enjoys a great entertaining read.

Less is not always more!

While this book had a very intense ending , the author spent way too much time muddling through the characters for the first two thirds of the book.barely held my interest till the end.

Unknown Border went to places I really wasn't expecting. The ending was brilliant! I really enjoyed reading this, as the action was nicely balanced with the story. I honestly wasn't expecting a novel of this genre to be this good, I was very impressed.

I look forward to more from this author.

Good story.

Good story. Story concerns a large Bigfoot that is very territorial. People in the small town had heard stories for years. No one willing to tell the truth concerning the area in the mountains. Local hunting guide gets curious and the story unfolds.

Good Story, Excess Exposition

This was a good story overall. However, one issue I had was that for a monster story it spent a majority of the time on exposition and unneeded aspects. Most of the parts involving the antagonist felt rushed. Good prospect.

Slow Reading

Too much back up story. I wanted adventure reading. Not a romance novel. And all the good guys died. Left me feeling the story boring.
