Definetly a very handy book! I like that the author is a trusted source, who actually knows what he is talking about. Also, I like that diet is mentioned in this book, in terms of something that will help keep you looking young. That is such a helpfull tip, but most books on this subject don't mention it. A good read, and a handy one, too.

More reviews (and no fluff) on the blog http://surrealtalvi.wordpress.com/

I have read many books on this subject and finally found one that actually gives the entire picture in detail - a one-stop resource that is easy to read, use, and follow. Author Young breaks down each aging issue (from crow's feet to frown lines) and then gives all the options available to address them: from homeopathy, cosmetics, inexpensive drug store products, high end beauty products, laser treatments, to plastic surgery. And yes, the author is a plastic surgeon but that is actually not the emphasis here nor is it even encouraged. Rather, these are fixes to prevent people from going under the knife when there are so many other options available.

The book breaks down as follows: Youth and beauty; Myths about beauty; Skin care; and plastic surgery; Your skin, your age, your beauty; The age-fix routine; The age fix diet; Improving your portrait; Eye repair; Reshaping your curves; Other youth and beauty issues; Aging gracefully, Appendix 1 Product sources; Appendix 2 if you need a plastic surgeon; references, index.

The introduction briefly goes over skin and how it ages. This is important to understand in relation to how the products or services work on the skin that are suggested later. Included is a very informative Q&A of the most common questions asked (e.g., "Can I change the size of my pores? If collagen is the problem, should I try collagen cream?").

The next section addresses age issues that people wish to fix. Each type of issue has a full range of suggestions - from natural (fruit peels, etc.), specific drug store brands (e.g., Nivea cleanser), choices among the higher end department store brands (e.g., Clinique foaming wash), to prescription treatments from your doctor (e.g., Obagi Nu-Derm). Treatments such as Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) are also discussed along with surgery. It's a full package of solutions, with the recommendations clearly marked with an "Age Fix Favorite" icon for each section. The suggestions cover a full range of options - so income is definitely not an issue here.

After the age issues, the book provides a simple routine to keep skin supple - dealing with everything from harsh Winter dry air to UV light. Sleep, water, SPF sunscreens, pillows - all discussed and demystified. Following the routine is diet - with specific food to help with different issues. It's thorough but never drones endlessly; the book is brief and precise.

A large section is devoted to makeup and cosmetics as well as natural scrubs and creams. Often, these are even better than surgery at mitigating trouble areas. Solutions for avoiding botox needles, helping wrinkled decolletage, to fixing stretched earlobes are covered. Note that the book isn't just about the face - cleavage, stomach, breasts, droopy rear end - it's all here. Interspersed throughout are cautions to ensure that readers in their enthusiasm don't do more harm than good.

I've waited a long time for a book with actual answers that included product names which we can go out and buy immediately - with a nice list of reasons where one would be better than the other (or one is a complete waste of money). What we have here are options - all of which can be acted upon with knowledge and alacrity immediately upon reading. This is a great resource - one I highly recommend for finally telling it like it is and without meandering or generalizations. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Very readable and well researched book on aging, mainly focusing on the appearance of aging. I love Dr. Youn’s approach and his honest intro into why he became a plastic surgeon: because he himself had surgery as a teen to alter his jaw shape and it was life changing.

I have to say I as shocked to find out this book was just recently released. After beginning to read I got only to page 4, before I had to stop and flip to the front to see the publishing date. I was shocked to see April 2016.

Why was I shocked? Well on page 4 Dr. Youn states that inquiries on natural products usually come from "people seeking suggestions for less expensive, easier alternatives to skin care products and treatments." Or "from people who paying $20 for an over-the-counter retinol cream would be a stretch." Honestly with comments like this I expected to see a publishing date of about 1985.

Just because people are interested in products with more natural ingredients doesn't mean that they are looking for something inexpensive, if anything I'm willing to pay more for a product with natural ingredients because I'm not interested in putting chemicals on my face. Yes I understand not everybody feels this way, and that's perfectly fine. I may be in the minority that has concerns with carcinogens in our beauty products, but I do you know that I'm not alone. There are tons of companies producing products with natural and more organic ingredients. And tons of people with online blogs encouraging these products.

And no, Dr. Youn, I am not an elderly woman on a fixed income in rural Ohio. It's time to get a clue, it is 2016 after all.

Really enjoyed this book! Not only does the author know what he's talking about, I really like his approach - you don't need the knife to look younger. He goes on to give you pointers about aging and starts with the very basic, cheapest thing you can do, then consistently works his way through the options available, from food to DIY to makeup, only going to surgery as the last resort. I loved this 'conscience' type of deal in how he presented his case; you can see it's not someone out to just get your money (which, sadly, is what a lot of the medical profession is about).
His tone and lively voice is also really nice, the book being easy to follow and written in a language that everyone can grasp. Well worth the read!

I knew most of the skincare stuff in the book already but I quite liked the way he explained them anyway. Also, he explained the plastic surgery stuff really clearly and I liked how he admitted the cons of some of them

Only issue is some of the DIYs have stuff like lemon juice, toothpaste, baking soda which others say is the wrong ph or abrasive to the skin? I wish he would have this MYTHS DEBUNKED section.

I have not been particularly concerned about how my face appears. However, now it's showing it's experience in a couple of ways I find objectionable, I was interested in discovering simple inexpensive methods of looking my best. I especially appreciate Dr. Youn's perspective that surgery is a serious matter, and that he offers a variety of alternative treatments from expensive to homemade, as well as learning to age with grace. He explains the science of our skin and of products and why they work.
Will I look 10 years younger? Eh, maybe.

This was actually really interesting, I’ve wanted to learn about a proper skin care routine for a while as all the ones I’ve read have like 10+ overhyped products. I really liked the concise and organised way that this was written and especially since the information is coming from a trusted source. Enjoyed this much more than I expected to and would highly recommend!

As superficial as it sounds but if you're interested in & curious about procedures from Botox to Liposuction, & a lot in between, this is a good guide. I liked that he mentions the least invasive treatments for every issue he mentions (e.g acne or fine lines) & lists natural and DIY, to over the counter treatments, all the way to the most expensive & intrusive.

I feel there’s a place for a book like this but I would highly recommend reading the book "More Than a Body". It is helpful for understanding some of the deeper reasons why many women, myself included, are drawn to anti aging “solutions”. It attempts to bring you back to where our real worth lies & puts things back in perspective.

A book written by a TV doctor is nothing new. Dr. Youn is a board certified plastic surgeon who is well-versed in alternatives to plastic surgery for keeping facial and body skin young-looking. He lists many products for common age-related skin conditions, both over-the-counter and dermatologist-dispensed. Overall, The Age Fix is a good guide to skin products that work. It also demystifies common plastic surgeries like eye lifts and tummy tucks, emphasizing the stress of such major operations and often suggesting less invasive alternatives to try first. Though the information is valuable, the editing is poor and it is difficult to use this volume as a guide.

One of the most interesting chapters is about diet and nutrition for the skin. Other topics include daily facial care, botox and other wrinkle-filling treatments, makeup tricks, liposuction and other fat reducing surgeries, surgical and home-based cellulite-zapping, how to protect the skin from UV rays and other environmental factors, common facial and body plastic surgeries, and how to find a good plastic surgeon.

There is an index of product sources by chapter at the end of the book. This information would be easier to use if categorized by the reasons that one might use the products, eg. a list of products that fade age spots, a list of best products to treat eye wrinkles, etc. Since the chapters sometimes seem repetitive and confusing, and some products have multiple uses, an index by condition to be treated would compliment and clarify the information.

Women and men who are concerned about their aging skin will want to refer to this book for up-to-date (2016) information on skin care products. Anyone who wants to buy skin products that work and avoid the many expensive but useless products on the market today will want to take a look. People who are considering plastic surgery will get a realistic idea of what to expect from this book.

I like to read books like this--the technology amazes me and makes me hopeful for the future. Youn covers every cosmetic procedure, and explains his recommendations for certain cosmetic/beauty products.

I'm glad to see he recommended some products I am already using on my face (L'Oreal)! He really loves Tretinoin, which is a prescription Retinol (Retin-A). And of course Botox. All of the plastic surgeons seem to agree that that is the number one go-to for making a face look less old.

One thing I questioned was his recommendation to sleep with tape on your brow, for those people who think they might be scrunching their forehead while asleep. Doesn't the glue on tape usually irritate skin? I don't have a brow-scrunching problem, but for people who do, he recommends plain-old tape. (There's no commercial hypo-allergenic product on the market for this; would there be a market for this?)

Youn seems like a nice guy. He has up-to-date knowledge of the beauty industry and presents it in an accessible way. Read this for the most current trends in beauty today.
