Abby Green does it again!!! Another stunningly beautiful and romantic love story…A King meets and falls in love with a working girl!!! What dreams are made of!!1

An Heir Fit for a King is the 13th novel in the One Night With Consequences Series and having read most of the series, this is definitely one of my favorites.

Once I started page 1, I couldn’t stop turning the pages. The 1st chapter ….just pulled me right into the amazing world that this talented writer created. What a start to the story….The King in exile…..
 photo 0b7c7bdcad618770e305c1e9eea7e457_zpsxlapnvkl.jpg
Meets the owner of a perfume shop in Paris…
She had pale olive skin, a straight nose and full soft lips. Sexy. A firm yet delicate jaw. High cheekbones. Her hair was a sleek fall of black satin behind her shoulders and Alix had the bizarre compulsion to reach out and see if it would slip through his fingers like silk.
Alix Saint Croix (is this not a sexy name….), exiled, king in waiting to reclaim his throne is …what words can best describe this gorgeous man…..

I will let Leila tell you ..
It was only now that Leila even registered his face. She’d never seen anything so boldly beautiful in all her life. Dark olive skin, dark enough to be Arabic? High cheekbones and a sensual mouth. It could have been pretty if it wasn’t for the deep – set eyes, strong brows and even stronger jaw, which had clenched along with that look of irritation.
He has a very tragic and sad past, has lost someone he loved and is determined never to allow himself to love someone again that he may once again lose.

Leila has experienced some sad moments in her life. She lives alone, taking care of her perfume shop left to her by her mother. She misses her mother terribly as she was the only family she had in her life. She’s determined to succeed in carrying on her mother’s legacy. She has also been let down by a man she had loved and has a very negative view about rich and handsome men. She is afraid that she will become like her mother….discarded and abandoned by the man she had loved.

Alix is confused by the conflicting feelings he has when he first meets Leila, whilst buying a perfume for his soon to be no longer mistress…
 photo download_zpsp2e2q8ty.jpg
He decides there and then that he has to have her!!!! Never mind that she refuses every invitation he gives her!!! He’s not alone in feeling the chemistry between himself and Leila..but she fights back…afraid to be hurt and abandoned again!!! But he persists….he continues with his seduction….and she continues feeling that this is not the kind of man that she wants…
 photo download201_zpsgfeg3pur.jpg
But he soon wears down her protests…and Leila, believing that this will be just a short time together, no strings attached…she won’t let her heart give in…..And so begins the adventures of Alix and Leila.

Leila was a very endearing heroine. Her life had been very sheltered and she’s suddenly thrust into a world of glamour she never imagined existed….One of the scenes I loved was when Alix flies her to Venice to attend an opera show…she’s never been on a plane before!!! Her excitement was totally fabulous..
 photo download204_zpswfeb9zdt.jpg
And the exotic locations that the story is set are so vividly described that I felt I could have been there myself….

The emotional connection between Alix & Leila was another thing I enjoyed about this story. The intense and powerful feelings for each other. Haunted by his past, Alix finds himself having to face his demons even more now, when he discovers that Leila is pregnant with his baby. Will it be too late for both of them to find happiness together when they keep fighting their true feelings for each other? Will Leila reveal the true feelings she has for Alix?
 photo 43a126d85370b42ea94786301f589766_zpsycxop306.jpg
Both will have to face their past and open up their hearts to each other before they can find their happiness.

Just remember the part, just after Leila and Alix meet in her shop and he goes back to the Ritz Hotel with his bimbetto soon to be ex mistress…
 photo dbdaf9f68d7939bc2f48f7bdfe7b97b8_zpskqk1mewr.jpg
Leila lives across the road from the hotel and she has a habit of watching the hotel windows with her binoculars…and wow…she does see Alix at the window…and sees a bit more before he closes the curtains!!! It was such a hilarious scene. I will think of this whenever I see the name Ritz Hotel!!

The epilogue was amazing… I loved it!!! You see, I love HEA….no, this is not a spoiler….of course there’s a HEA…this is Mills & Boon guys!!!! So, let me leave you with this picture of Alix & Leila…
 photo Cinderella-and-Prince-Charming-waving-from-their-carriage_zpsxcigbsj9.gif
oh….get this book!!!! It’s a fantastic Prince Charming meets and whisks Cinderella away into the sunset to live HAPPILY EVER AFTER!!!!

I've been trying to read the newer HPs when I have a chance. I've been burned too many times to buy them without vetting, so I look to the library to acquaint myself with new authors. I pounced on this one by Abby Green because I've read other stories by her that I really liked, even though the blurb didn't sound all that interesting.

And it wasn't, sad to say, interesting. There was nothing wrong with it - it just felt predictable.

The plot: Heroine is a perfumer who lives in flat above her inherited perfume shop in Paris across from a fancy hotel. Hero, a king-in-exile, runs in to buy something for his mistress. He is instantly attracted as is she.

Back when I started reading HPs in the 1970's a central conflict had to do with the heroine denying her physical responses to the hero as well as her feelings. Now, the physical response is a given with lots of sex scenes, so denying your feelings as conflict seems to take center stage. That can be interesting, but it can also devolve into passive/aggressive, hot/cold scenes and lots of inner musings. Not to say that the older stories didn't have a lot of that going on, they did. And this is a new story that continues that tradition. It was well- written. Not a bad way to spend an hour or two, but nothing memorable. I did like the perfume details.

In ‘An Heir Fit for a King’ we have a somewhat complicated story. The road is quite curved and bumpy on the way to an HEA.

Our hero, King Alix Saint Croix, is in exile and biding his time until he can reclaim his throne. A mistress would sure help Alix pass the time while he waits. Alix enters a Parisian perfume house to buy a fragrance for his current mistress who he wants to be rid of right away. He is immediately enchanted with the owner, Leila Verughese. Their connection is magnetic and he makes his purchase, never again to have another encounter with his current mistress. The King is quite breathtaking and powerfully built but he is also your typical alpha male with a real jerk factor that somewhat dissipates towards the end. There were sections of this book when I felt he was very unlikable and somewhat mean-spirited. He has been through some heartbreaking losses as an unloved child and that continues to affect him every day of his life, but that is no excuse for treating people the way he does. He has the typical Machiavellian personality.

Our virgin heroine, Leila, hasn’t had an easy go of it either. She inherited her perfume shop from her mother and is very talented designing custom perfumes. When Leila was conceived her father only offered her mother the position of a kept mistress and when she didn’t accept the offer her mother took her and left the country. He never showed an ounce of interest in meeting his daughter and it has affected her immensely. Her mother turned into a broken, bitter woman suspicious of every man out there and seemed to teach her daughter only how to mistrust the opposite sex.

This love story was not easy. I did not care for Alix until the last two or three pages so that was really not enough to sway me over to team Alix. He was heartless and uncaring and caused Leila so much heartache. I don’t understand how these alpha guys get by with this type of treatment only to have the woman willingly come back to him with no apologies or groveling.

I just couldn't get past the sheer idiocy of the h in this one, her passive aggressiveness was a little too much for my taste.

On one hand she is ashamed of her parentage, because her dad seduced her mum and then only offered to make the mum his mistress and refused to recognize his illegitimate child (the h), and yet she can't keep her hands off the H, knows she is susceptible and then doesn't take any precautions and just hops into bed.

I know this is a standard trope because virgins in HPLandia have never heard of birth control, but she acted like a cat in heat from the first page and I was sorta disgusted actually.

He really wasn't much better- so in terms of slut factor and using each other, they pretty much belong together, but I just wasn't feeling the love at all.

She was all about despising what he was, yet she was all over him when she had the opportunity --and then she whines about it. What the heck did she expect when she got involved with a high profile playboy and her father is setting up to be the next President of France?

There is naivete and then there is sheer stupidity, and stupidity topped with whiney tantrums was way OTT.

NO ONE could be that dumb as to not realize that there was a very high chance she would wind up plastered all over the media, and so her whole reaction and attitude came off as very disingenuous and really stretched the limits of my belief.

He was the usual alpha jerk -- but that is standard for the line so I tolerated it. She however, pretty much got on my last nerve, and so this one just wasn't my cuppa.

Very satisfying insta-lust/duped heroine/King-in-waiting/surprise baby story. Okay, that’s it!

Nope, Abby Green develops a little more layered story this time with the both major characters having sad backstories (bad parenting) that determine actions in current time and a lots of passion. The heroine actually has a job, she creates individual perfumes for people, and the king is lurking in Paris waiting to take back his kingdom.

The H is the weaker character of the two and throws a wrench into the romance by one, using the heroine as a foil as he plots his way back to his kingdom, and, two, maintaining the I can never love anthem so many H’s adhere to. He’s another H whose fiery loins fall for the heroine before his heart and brain do. Very satisfying to read a heroine that has a backbone and pride and knows how to use them. She is seriously unimpressed by his “mistress” connections and knows how to say “NO” in the face of his more idiotic H moves.

That is one epic book! Two very scared people feeling the wind knocked out of them by their emotions. It was pure fantasy! Love the Queen he wants to marry her and the whole bit. It's going on my reread and keeper shelf. Totally worth it.

It's hard to say what I felt about this book;
the writing and storyline is lovely,
andthe relationship between the two characters appeared almost realistic.

Two lost souls find one another at an inopportune time and try to make the most of it. However, when both of their lies come out, and still more lies come into play, will their true feelings be able to become revealed once everything is on the line?

Alix is absolutely self-made and it had not been easy for him. He had suffered some major issues during his childhood, when he witnessed his family being killed, but he wasn't such a wreck at being emotionally available.

Leila had her own issues. Her father was despicable, he left her mother, and treated her just like another mistress, knowing she was pregnant.
Living under the shadow of insecurities, she learned from her mother that she would never repeat the same mistakes of her mother.
But then, her will failed her, and she gave into the passions of the night.
She was very conflicted about their relationship and its tone, but she had feelings for him that didn't seem to want to go away.
There were times I felt like slapping Leila for her naiveté.
She didn't seem to trust Alix, and was very emotional, but I don't think I'm being partial, when I say it was understandable!

The love scenes were very sexy and well-written. There was a lot of chemistry between them and they set the pages on fire together.
From the beginning, there was this powerful string that kept pulling them together.
I was waiting to see who would say I love you first.
Both had been hurt in the past. So to guard their heart against pain, they refused to say the 3 little words till the end.
To give this book credit, it didn't take one of them getting hurt for the other to realize it was love.
It just took longer for them to know the emotion they were feeling was indeed love.

The epilogue with the cute baby (named after Alix's brother) and another baby on the way, was really sweet, and warm.

Their strong personalities are what kept me riveted to the novel and there were times I couldn’t see one without the other.
I think some readers will love this book.
Very much a modern romance, and with the traditional happy ending.

Another fabulous romance from AG. Over the top, melodramatic escapism with romance and star crossed lovers at the very forefront. Two colourful and engaging protagonists and a well constructed journey to a happy ever after.

It's a perfect fairy tale....

Leila Amal Lakshmi Verughese..At first I thought the surname was Italian. But no, she is of Indian
(as in India) and French mix, never knew her family on both sides.Leila comes from a long line of perfumers and refused to give up her work-even for a crown!
Alix has lost his parents and younger brother (a handicapped one) years ago and went into exile. He
plays a role of a woman-chaser to put a smokescreen for his enemies back home.So he uses Leila and
she doesn't like the results- and bolts. And then Alix is reinstated as a king and learns there are
consequences to his time with Leila. Now he must win her back.
Leila is exotic, independent,vegetarian,proud-but still as a working girl with a dubious parentage
she doesn't think she could be a queen..or is she wrong ?

While exiled King Alix Saint Croix lies in wait to reclaim his throne, a mistress would provide a welcome distraction. Entering a Parisian perfume house to buy a fragrance for a current lover, he leaves with a powerful craving for another woman altogether—stunningly exotic perfumer Leila Verughese.

The very smell of Alix awakens Leila's every nerve. If she's going to give her innocence to anyone, who better than a king? But it's an alchemy with life-changing repercussions…

Leila's life spirals out of control, until she realizes her power … She's carrying a royal heir

Adult romance novels are a guilty pleasure of mine. I now that there are problems with some of them and that most contain love at first sight (which I usually hate), but there's just something about these novels that is so addicting. I also hate the fact that when characters from many of these romance novels are around each other, they just can't control trying to kiss each other and doing it. I'm sure it's not that hard to control yourself around each other and even people in love don't want to have sex all the time.

Overall, this book was enjoyable and while Leila did annoy me at times later on in the book, I did like her.

Jenis Harlequin yang ga cocok aku baca.

H/H menyebalkan kalo menurut aku.

Didn't like the book. Hero had a mistress with him when he met heroine for the first time (yes he dumped her after meeting the heroine but still is gross to me that he slept with heroine within days of last sleeping with another woman). I didn't really like heroine much either. P.

An Heir Fit for a King is a wonderfully written and emotional story. It's penned by the amazing Abby Green who is so fashion-forward with her writing and an author who consistently pushes boundaries. An Heir Fit for a King is due for September 2015 release with Harlequin Presents and part of the One Night With Consequences series.

Fashion-forward... what does this mean you wonder? Read the first chapter and that's EXACTLY what I mean! An exceptional beginning - daring to go where not many first chapters have gone before. Uncharted territory which I absolutely adored. Abby Green has always done this for me and I love it! In my opinion it helps keep these books exciting.

Alix Saint Croix is an exiled King of a small island kingdom. He is a hard and determined man who's suffered greatly in the past and very close to claiming back his crown. Never before has he been floored by a woman as he was when he walked into Leila's perfume shop. He pretty much drops everything to pursue her. Leila puts the colour back in his world, he's completely consumed by her and it's not long before he's thinking she can be his queen.

Of course things don't run smoothly, especially with Leila feeling completely overwhelmed by Alix's world, by Alix and by the intense feelings she's starting to feel. They have amazing chemistry which consumes them both but overhearing a conversation tips everything over for Leila and she ends it. Consequences of their brief union bring them back together, not by Leila's choice and reluctantly she agrees to be Alix's Queen. Both parties need to dig deep into their pasts and open their hearts up if they stand a chance.

An Heir Fit for a King is set in beautifully described France and a stunning island, so real I was there! Abby Green never fails to hit the emotional nail on the head with incredibly likeable and slightly broken characters, stunning locations and a story which marvelously wraps me right up and reels me in. The sparks were flying and the aircon was turned up to full!

I loved A Heir Fit for A King, I loved both Alix and Leila, their character make-up and their chemistry. I loved the descriptive writing which covered locations, emotions, sights and smells.
I adored An Heir Fit for a King and would recommend it to all!
