"The feats of Steve Wadiak on the gridiron are legendary in South Carolina and much of this nation. However, his greatest achievement would be how he spent his life and how it would inspire other people once they read this wonderful story" --Lou Holtz, College Football Hall of Fame Coach and ESPN Analyst. The Cadillac" takes readers on an engaging journey through the life of a true college football hero--from Steve Wadiak's humble beginning as the son of Ukranian immigrants, to his chance discovery on the sandlots of Chicago's South Side, and on through a record-breaking career at the University of South Carolina. Set in post-WWII America, "The Cadillac" is a must read for football fans of all ages and a historical treasure for University of South Carolina football faithful.
While we long-suffering Gamecock faithful have experienced mostly mediocre performances over the years, a few legends have graced our gridiron---Rogers, Sharpe, Clowney, and others---and one of the most beloved was Steve Wadiak, born in Illinois the son of immigrant Ukrainians, a sterling running back who tragically died in a car accident just before turning pro. His number 37 was retired after his passing. This is a solid biography for USC fans. I was lucky to find a signed first printing. As the son of an Ukrainian immigrant too, his story was even more poignant for me. GO COCKS!
