Really great information, but the author gives tooo much background on on almost every character. As a Memphian I appreciate learning about the sanitation riots that happened. Sadly I was never taught about this in school, so it has been an eye opener.
Wonderful completion to the story of the 1968 assignation of MLK and why he was in Memphis on that dark day. Growing up in Memphis it definitely answers many of the questions I had and dispelled many of the things I was led to believe as I was growing up on the eastern part of town. I would recommend this book strongly it is a good read and factual in its presentation.
Fascinating and detailed saga of the Memphis Sanitation Workers' Strike and the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. As a Memphian, it's explains so many things and, sadly, shows several moments that, had decisions gone the other way, peace may have reigned the day.
An absolutely outstanding document of a saga both tragic and affirming. Its clear and fair description of the genesis, growth, struggles and resolution of the strike should be required reading for American politicians, ministers, labor leaders, and workers today. VERY, VERY moving, in an intricate and cumulative way.
