Locked deep within Jamie's heart were emptiness and confusion beyond the comprehension of a five-year-old boy. Refusing to let words describe his hurt, Jamie withdrew into his own little world. Would Chloe leave him the way his mommy and baby sister had?
Silence of My Love, book two of the Chloe Mae Chronicles, by Kay Rizzo, finds Chloe struggling to be a surrogate mother to orphaned Jamie in the harsh flatlands of Kansas.
Chloe's dreams of reaching China stall as adversity and a little boy's silence lead her down a path of experience she never bargained for. How could anyone find love and happiness in this desolate, unforgiving land?
"Once you make a decision, accept the consequences and move on...Vain regrets guarantee self-fulfilling defeat." One of the best quotes I've ever read. ❤️ I love following Chloe Mae's journey since running away from her home by hopping a train to escape an arranged marriage in pursuit of her own dreams. She's growing and learning to follow God and it's changing her life in ways she didn't expect. She's come to love Jamie and Kansas and all the people she's met since deciding to stay and care for Jamie while his parents are in Boston since his mom is sick. Reading about Jamie finally speaking to Chloe was such a beautiful moment. *happy tears* I love how Chloe is still determined to follow her dreams and go to California and than too China as a missionary... but she can't seem to leave Jamie, and the Kansas prairie is growing on her. Will she ever make it too China?
I definitely cried multiple times reading this wonderful story.
As the sequel to Flee My Father's House, I expected a lot from this book. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
-Though the author seems to speed through months to get to more interesting parts (I find myself wanting to edit and add to these half-skipped days), the story was still there.
-Drucilla...oh, she made me want to reach into the pages of the book and slap her across the U.S.! I almost wanted to skip every encounter Chloe had with this horrible woman. But I made myself read it, and by the end of the book, I was pleased that I didn't skip anything.
I am ever-so-grateful that my mom "made" me read this series!
it was a good book. i enjoyed the relationship between jamie and chole. the ending was good but slightly irritating. james is in love with chloe and he wont admit it.
