The research in landscape painting during the last twenty years has rediscovered some exceptional nineteenth century artists, one of them being André Giroux (1801-1879). Winner of the Prix de Rome en Paysage Historique, Giroux painted "en plein air" without becoming an avant-garde painter. In Rome at the same time as Corot, Giroux painted startling landscapes of the Roman Campagna, very similar to those painted by Corot. This book presents not only a wide range of Giroux's paintings and drawings but also some of his important photographs.
