*Rilettura*
La versione del mago di Oz citata all'inizio è un po' diversa. Sarà una versione giapponese magari.
Quando viene detto che è il 2015 devo dire che fa un po' strano pensare che è il futuro facendo questa rilettura nel 2019. La prima volta nel 2004 era più futuro.
Quando usciamo da Tokyo Jupiter però va meglio visto che è il 2033 ed è ancora futuro per noi.
Quanto al fanservice non ho nessun problema. Sono pure quasi proporzionate certe tette, una persona in particolare, rispetto a certe foto che conoscenti goodreadiani spacciano su questo social.

Desain sampulnya bagus, tipe minimalis yang saya suka. Kombinasi warna latar, imaji bulu sayap, dan lettering untuk judulnya di tiap volume sangat pas. Ada siluet mecha juga di bagian sampul belakang untuk mempertegas apa genre komik ini. Secara keseluruhan, ada nuansa elegan dan misterius yang membuat orang jadi penasaran ingin membaca isinya.
Sudah, itu saja yang benar-benar saya suka dari komik ini.
Sebenarnya, konsep ceritanya bagus: ada perpaduan antara mecha, mitologi peradaban Mu, dan konsep 'dunia/kenyataan buatan' yang menarik. Penuh intrik, plot twist, dan drama emosional. Sewaktu RahXephon pertama kali keluar satu dekade yang lalu (animenya dulu, baru komik ini yang diadaptasi dengan sejumlah pengubahan signifikan), banyak yang mencapnya jiplakan dari Evangelion, tapi saya pribadi merasa cukup banyak keunikan & keunggulan tersendiri yang dimiliki Rah....
....sayang, IMHO eksekusi dan gambarnya kurang bisa mengeluarkan potensi dari cerita. Paneling dan pacing tidak efektif, penggambaran kejiwaan karakternya kurang mendalam, dan pergerakan mecha di adegan laganya seringkali tidak jelas. Terlalu di-shounenifikasi, sehingga unsur kelam dan misteriusnya jadi steril. Bahkan volume terakhir yang harusnya mengharu-biru pun terasa datar-datar saja bagi saya. Ngomong-ngomong soal volume terakhir dan ending:
Sungguh, rasanya saya akan jauh menikmati seandainya cerita RahXephon ini dibuat dalam bentuk novel. Mungkin ini karena efek adaptasi ke komik yang kurang optimal dan dikerjakan beberapa orang (kreator, penulis naskah untuk komik, dan ilustratornya beda), sehingga ada perbedaan persepsi. Belum lagi ada kebiasaan jelek dari ilustratornya, yang berusaha sekeras mungkin mencari peluang untuk memasukkan fanservice picisan di sela-sela cerita. Di catatan penulisnya, beliau tanpa malu-malu berkata:
"Mecha, mecha, mecha melulu!! Aku hanya ingin gambar adegan-adegan seksi dengan cewek-cewek yang hanya pakai bikini dan celana dalam, mwahaha!!"

RahXephon struggles to rise above the long shadow cast by Neon Genesis Evangelion, to which it bears more than a passing resemblance. Despite its polished visuals and ambitious concept, the series feels derivative, borrowing heavily without offering a compelling voice of its own. The characters are largely one-dimensional, lacking the emotional depth or complexity needed to sustain interest, and the storyline dissolves into a muddled and forgettable narrative. Ultimately, RahXephon feels more like a pale echo than a bold reinterpretation.

Today's post is on RahXephon, volume 1 by Yutaka Izubushi and Bones with art by Takeaki Momose. It is the first in a trilogy. It is 192 pages long and is published by Viz. The intended reader is someone who is interested in mecha, science fiction-fantasy stories. There is some mild foul language, some sexuality, and violence in this manga. The story is third person close of the main character Ayato. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the back of the book- A mysterious orb envelops the city of Tokyo. All forms of communications are severed, leaving the inhabitants of the newly dubbed "Tokyo Jupiter" ignorant to their fate. Along with the United Nations, a special organization known as TERRA is formed: their mission is to liberate Tokyo from the otherworldly MU- those responsible for Tokyo's capture.
Tokyo citizen Ayato Kamina's life is about to undergo a drastic change. MU agents attempt to kidnap both him and his childhood friend Reika, and a sassy TERRA operative brings him face-to-face with the mythical giant robot RahXephon- a force be alone has the ability to control. With everything he has ever believed in falling to pieces around him, Ayato resolves to fight the MU and protect Reika at any cost.
Review- As first volumes go, this is not a bad one. We get lots of world building, some character development and a greater mystery about what the heck is going on. Ayato is a normal teenage boy with a girlfriend, school work, and a working mother he does not see much. He has no idea about the greater world but all changes with Reika and himself are almost kidnapped and Reika almost killed. The MU bad guys want Ayato but they also want Reika dead for some reason. There is some fighting with the RahXephon but not much and I hope we get to see it in action in the next volume. In general in this volume is about building the mystery of the world and of the RahXephon.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Après avoir regardé l'animé du même nom que j'ai apprécié j'ai découvert l'existence de ce manga. Je me suis alors dit que j'allais voir ce que ça donne.
J'ai été déçu. Si l'intrigue de base est grossièrement là, l'oeuvre est différente de l'animation de mes souvenirs.
Qu'à cela ne tienne ! Je prends alors le manga comme une oeuvre à part et le trouve relativement divertissant, jetant les bases de l'histoire comme tout bon premier volume.
Rien de bien palpitant mais assez pour me donner envie de savoir ce qu'il va se dérouler ensuite. Je regretterais cependant trop de plans fesses/seins/culottes/etc.

Interesting setup but the manga seems to depend too much on fanservice to fill the pages. I'm not sure how likely I am to continue.

So cheap - teens given inexplicable excess power, something skimpy in every page, completely unremarkable protagonist fought over repeatedly.

RahXephon es básicamente la respuesta de estudio BONES al éxito de Evangelion, por no decir la copia. La serie de animación comienza igual que la de Evangelion y hay muchos paralelismos con esta, sin embargo, RahXephon demostró tener su propio centro de interés, los personajes resultaban menos cargados y los diseños de los mechas y las criaturas llamadas Dolem son sumamente atractivas.
El manga, por su lado, es una decepción frente a la serie pues esta construida no solo con otra historia sino esta plagada de elementos cómico-sexuales de esos que les encanta ver a los adolescentes japoneses. También el relato tiende mucho a la comedia y eso no aparecía en la serie de televisión que se tomaba en serio.
La serie de mangas no es larga, solo 3 tomos, y creo que fue lo mejor que pudieron hacer.

I've heard this series described very positively as "Evangelion done by someone sane", and I can see where that description comes from, but I far prefer Eva (despite its endings).

Bien, de este manga tengo algunas cosas que decir. Primero, este es el primer manga que leo en mi vida, y la verdad no me desagrado pero tampoco me encanto. Segundo, porque tienen que sexualizar escenas que no tiene nada que sexualizar, cual es la necesidad de mostras chicas desnudas o semi desnudas. Tercero, no entendí muy bien el comienzo, ya que siento que no hizo una buena introducción a la historia. Cuarto, me gusto el tema de los mechas y la implementación, y quinto, me leeré los siguientes 2 mangas para saber como termina, y espero qué me gusten un poco mas, también espero poder verme el anime de la historia y entender un poco mas de este mundo.
(me encantan los dibujos manga y eso ayudo a que me gustara mas la historia)
