Battlefield of Pacifists is the definitive explanation of what happened in the year between the end of the smash-hit series that aired on Cartoon Network and Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz. Written by Katsuhiko Chiba, Battlefield of Pacifists tells how the Earth Sphere went from the verge of peace to the brink of war. A must-read for all Gundam fans.
Interesting self contained story for the gap between the original series and Endless Waltz. It’s been a while since I watched or read any gundam, but I didn’t feel lost here. The characters are still familiar enough for anyone with any gundam experience. The story introduces a new faction, the Perfect Peace People, and brings back the gundam pilots and other Wing characters. There is a new Oz character that has a little bit of story and a mixed goal and methods like a lot of Wing characters. The big bad is the new organization. The art in this volume is pretty good, but being made in 2002, it is flipped English style left to right. This creates some confusion trying to follow the panels. I also found a few areas cutoff in the TokyoPop English version. I think the English translation of dialogue is weak. Or at least hope the original was a little stronger. Overall, a quick enjoyable read of a new story in the Wing Gundam universe.
This is not one of my favorites, both story-wise and art-wise. It's another sidestory that is supposed to build a bridge between the TV series and GW: Endless Waltz, but like the others it did not provide much "asphalt" for the said bridge. I guess it's because the side stories didn't have the same writers. *shrugs* Anyway, I'm still giving it three stars for a plot that holds my attention for a while. The Vulkanus plot device is pretty interesting. :)
I actually have the original comic release of this, thanks to bookmooch. Hee! Anyway, I liked this a lot. Plotty and fun, and with lots of all the pilots. The art's good, and much like the series.
