Two leaders. Two worlds. Passion ignites… …just as the storm erupts.
Julia Innes, leader of the Immune survivors in Los Alamos, has done her best to ensure that the rest of her fellow Immune have settled into their new lives after the Dying. Even the friendly Santa Fe djinn have followed suit, creating a calm between the two cities — a world of peaceful co-existence.
But all is not as it seems...
Although she refuses to give in to her feelings, Julia struggles with her need for Zahrias al-Harith, the leader of the Santa Fe djinn, knowing her desire will never be reciprocated. But when a crisis brings her face-to-face with Zahrias, she worries that she won’t be able to hide her attraction to the man who holds her heart. As an unforeseen threat shatters the fragile peace, Zahrias must confront an adversary from his past. Julia is forced into their conflict, catapulting her into the world of the djinn…and drawing her into a struggle where far more than just her heart is at stake.
A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, she’s happy to announce that her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010.
While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.
After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don’t hold that against her.
I am enjoying this romantic paranormal adventure so much. I can't wait for the next book. Christine Pope has created a world rich with detail, a testament to her creativity and world building skills. She paints vivid pictures with her words. I love genie and djinn books, and this series has become a new favorite.
I am what you would call a romance reader or supernatural reader, BUT let me tell you when I came across this book i just had to read it. Not my normal type of read but goodness gracious these books are good. When I read the first book chosen it kinda made me think about what happened with covid and how we lost 1000's to the ppandemic. Truth be told that is what I thought I was reading but turns out it is 1000 times better.
It's becoming quite the stretch to my imagination that every unattached djinn will be able to locate his Chosen amongst the few Immune that have survived the cleansing.
I have a question that I may already have the answer to. Was Jace able to communicate telepathically with Jessica before they met because she was his Chosen, even though she didn't know it? Julia laments several times that she wishes she could communicate with Zahrias in that manner but can't since she's not his Chosen.
Another observation is that since the djinn are practically immortal, they will have several partners over their long existence. However, the djinn with Chosen indicate that their alliance will last for all eternity. Why the difference? No boredom with a human who can't be nearly as interesting as another djinn? Puh-leeze.
So Zahrias is is kidnapped by one of his former djinn lovers, Lyanna. She has apparently been lusting after him for thousands of years but didn't feel compelled to act until he indicated an interest in Julia. How this former lover was able to distinguish that his feelings for Julia were stronger than they were for the human partner he'd had before is not addressed. Why didn't she pursue him during his long abstinence? I would think he would have been a lot more receptive to her when he didn't have conflicting emotions. But then the main storyline wouldn't exist.
We meet Lyanna's evil brother, Qadim, who has enlisted Margolis into the scheme. I just remembered that Qadim was communicating telepathically with Margolis before he sprang him out of jail. Hmm, how could this be? There was certainly no romantic link there.
Why are the djinns and their Chosen living in one community? They've access to the whole freaking world and could each have huge areas of land, cities, whatever. Why would they limit themselves to one house each in suburbia? It's not as if they can't blink themselves to other locations if they feel the need to kibitz.
I'm going to continue reading the next three books in this series. I'm fairly certain they will be djinn meets Chosen romances which is not my favorite genre. More magic, less hanky panky, please.
typical romance of the slightly paranormal kind this book focused on the djinn leader, zahrias, and julia's story about their finally admitting their love for each other and the dramatic details that make it happen,..... blaah, blah, blah.... nothing exciting and a typical romance series. since i want more paranormal and less romance this is where i leave this series. i gave it a try. u romancers will like it, tho i feel it needs a little more excitement to keep it interesting ....but they DO fall in love !!!
Was first introduced to this book via Bad Magic: Novels of Demons, Djinn, Witches, Warlocks, Vampires, and Gods Gone Rogue. I loved the books but only felt the need to purchase additional books for a few of them. This happened to be one of them. I loved them although I only bought books 1-4. My only problem with them was how accepting some of the people were regarding everyone they knew dying. Realistically I think people would have been a bit more distraught watching everyone die and turn to dust. A little romance does not counteract that much loss. Other than that, I loved them!
Broken (The Djinn Wars Book 4) by Christine Pope. A very spoilt Djinn wants her ex lover back so with the help of her brother they kidnap Zahrias but he only wants the human Julia and plots to escape. Julia, in the mean time, realises she loves Zahrias and tries everything she can think of to get him back. Ultimately the solution comes from an unbelievable person.
This is a continuing story of the destruction of humans and the race taking over America. Some of the race did not want the destruction to happen but could only save a few
The fourth volume of the Djinn Wars and like the third volume a stand alone volume. I quite liked it, but it is nowhere near as well written as the first two and the bad boy redeemed is a little bit to simplistic for somebody with that level of baggage, but then it is only a story.
I really love this series , great read, was kinda slow in places that kept you wondering in places, but caught up next in the next bit of reading, can not wait to get to the next book Forsaken.
I thought this book was excellent. It is the first book I've read by Christine Pope. While I don't make a habit of starting series part-way through, I received this as an ARC and time was of the essence. That being said, I am 100% interested in reading the rest of the series! I think this book could be read as a stand-alone if desired, but might be best enjoyed as a part of the series. The book does not end in a cliffhanger. I feel that all the background information was well explained, so it was no hardship trying to understand and enjoy what was going on in this book not having read the first 3. The book is full of well fleshed out characters with dynamic relationships. You can clearly see what motivates the characters and what makes them who they are. The connections they have to each other run deep, friendships, family, and romantic partners alike. Reading this book, I couldn't help but to notice similarities between this series and Anna Hackett's Hell Squad series (another series I absolutely loved!). Both feature Earth being taken over by some form of alien race (though those alien races are extremely different, with Pope's being the Djinn and Hackett's being Raptors). If you were a fan of the Hell Squad series, this might be up your alley as well. The story is incredibly interesting with multiple facets. Though characters face adverse situations, the book has an overall feeling of hope to it and has a HEA ending. As I previously mentioned, the rest of the Djinn Wars series is on my to-read asap list. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!
Julia Innes was almost broken by her treatment at the hands of her fiancé, before he was killed during the Heat. Then she was physically abused by the so called leader of her small enclave of immune in Los Alamos. When they were liberated by Zahrias and his band of Djinn and their Chosen, she returned to Los Alamos as its leader. She is doing her best to run the city fairly, and has a n alliance with Santa Fe where the Djinn and their Chosen have settled. Now if she could just put a certain attraction to Zahrias out of her head she could maybe move on in putting her life back together!
Zahrias al-Harith, the leader of the Santa Fe djinn, almost chose Julia as his Chosen but after a former joining did not end well, he hesitated and then it was too late. He now has an alliance with her settlement and when danger once again comes calling, he comes to her aid. But to save Julia Zahrias is going to have to deal with a jealous ex of the Djinn variety and another entanglement with the former leader of Los Alamos, who still has his sights on Julia!
Another fantastic instalment in the Djinn wars series. Julia and Zahrias are both so bound up in their past that they cannot see what could be a fantastic future for them together. With enemies coming at them from all fronts they finally give in to the attraction between them. Superb story arc and characters with substance. You will get sucked into this post apocalyptic world in no time. I highly recommend reading the books in order rather than as stand alones. Ready for the next in the series please!!!!!!!!!!
Continuing on in the Djinn Wars, Broken breaks away from the previous main characters Jessica and Jace, and instead takes two others characters from the series as the main focus, Julia and Zaharias. Yes, you should read the series from the beginning.
Life goes on after Captain Margolis loses his battle. He is now imprisoned. Zaharias continues his leadership role in Santa Fe, while Julia is now the leader in Los Alamos. Somehow Captain Margolis escapes his prison and is determined to take revenge. The reasons why are an important part of the story.
Every love story needs a beginning. Why Julia and Zaharias feel the need to not express their emotion towards one another also play a large part in the story. If you have read the previous books in the Djinn Wars, you know Julia’s reason. What you learn is Zaharias’s reason.
Keeping the same page turning excitement, and bringing in Jessica, Jace and some of the other characters from the previous books will have you wanting to not stop until the end. Human and Djinn will work together again, or should I say still, in the battle against Margolis. Changing main characters does not impact the desire to reach the end. In addition, you will want to get the next in the series as quickly as possible.
This is the first book that I have read in this series and I loved it. I was a little worried that I would be a little confused, however I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I was able to read this without feeling lost. I will definitely be buying the other books in the series to catch up on how the world has become the way it is in this book. I loved getting to meet all these new characters, especially Julia and Zahrias. The book really transported me into the book, in the sense that I was able to see the whole book being played out in my mind. I cried and laughed and was cheering for Julia and Zahrias to let go of both of their pasts and move forward with each other. I can't wait to see what Christine Pope comes up with for the next story in this series! I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
This was a pretty decent book. It was my first time reading something from this author. The cover is beautiful and eye catching. This book seems like it could be a stand alone. It was a nice read while being sick this past week. Helped the time go by. I would recommend this book. Also, a series i can see myself continuing.
This series is an interesting take on an apocalyptic world scenario. I thoroughly enjoyed the well written characters and storyline. The situations and strategies for sustainable living are well planned and believable, and that's important because that would have been a deal breaker for me. I can't wait to read the next one! Excellent!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. A new take on paranormal romance and post apocalyptic at the same time! Just enough romance sprinkled with lot of intrigue and action! Bravo, I highly recommend this series
As the previous books in the series this one is captivating. The author create females with very strong personalities in her books . I read it non stop. Bought all the books in the series so far. Enjoy
