Little Miss Shy is the shyest person in the world, so when she gets an invite to Mr Happy's Christmas Party, just the thought of going makes her blush. The other Mr Men are very excited. Mr Strong finds the Christmas tree, Mr Greedy bakes a Yule tree trunk and Little Miss Naughty brings the mistletoe! But will Little Miss Shy's blushes be spared when there's a thick blanket of snow on the day of the party?
Roger Hargreaves was a British cartoonist, illustrator and writer of children's books. He created the Mr. Men series, Little Miss series and Timbuctoo series, intended for young readers. The simple and humorous stories, with bold, brightly coloured illustrations, have sales of more than 85 million copies worldwide in 20 languages.
I read this to a grade 4 class, they enjoyed the story about the Christmas Party that Miss Shy was afraid to go to. We talked about how some people are very social and outgoing, and some people find those things scary. They enjoyed the book and it provided a very interesting discussion afterwards.
Little Miss Shy's fear of blushing almost prevents her from attending Mr. Happy's Christmas party.
Young readers apprehensive about social events may relate to Little Miss Shy's painful sense of embarrassment, and watching her overcome her fear will reassure them that things can turn out all right.
This is a fantastic Mr Men book dealing with Little Miss Shy, the complete introvert, and the challenge of being invited to a party. Fantastic, totally relatable and fun!
