Insightful book on how to house train your puppy. The key is to maintain a regimented schedule. So far, after 10 days of having Zuma in our house, it is working ok. Not perfectly but reasonably well.

Some aspects of the book is pretty common sense stuff that is found in many dog books. The methods for the 7 days can work but depends on the breed and personality of the dog. Most training processes like ringing a bell to signal, etc takes 15 days or longer. I wouldn't recommend this book.

Simple Potty Training for Puppies

This read is a well laid out plan to get your puppy housebroken in a positive and straightforward manner. From day one, my puppy got it. I adopted a 3-month-old puppy from the pound.
At the pound, they have no choice but to go in their kennel. This puppy would try and go potty on my door mats, thinking those were placed there for her use.
I followed the steps in the book, and puppy was quick to let us know when she had to potty, then would head to the designated spot outside. There were only a couple of accidents in the house, and I took her outside to finish, then quietly clean up any mess. It was a very simple stress-free process!

A very basic book with a lot of no brainers. I liked that it explained dog mentality. If anything, that helped me the most. There are a few gems in the book that did help us potty train our pup quicker. 7 days is a stretch, though. I’d say we had it down in 12-14 days, but even then the occasional accident pops up. The book even says that dogs need to be a little older before they can fully control their bladders. So, invest in a carpet cleaner, practice patience, and stay consistent. Things get better and easier with each day that passes.

Simple and comprehensive.

I have owned dogs for most of my life, and thought I knew it all. But this book has given me insights that I wish I had understood long ago.

I’m about to adopt a little pup, after an eighteen month gap without a dog. This book has topped up my confidence in how I am going to deal with my furry bundle now that inhale less mobility.

Highly recommend reading it. Not only for house training, but for many other tips and reasonings in understanding dogs.

This guide was simple but effective! I appreciated the clear chapters regarding the different facets of housebreaking and the general tips on training a puppy or dog in the final chapter. The book did get repetitive and redundant at times but this could help with those who don’t retain information well. I wish the author provided more tips on crate training such as problem solving skills if puppy is unhappy and barking in the crate since using a crate is the main vehicle he upheld for housebreaking. Overall I learned a lot from this book.

Sound, common sense advice

Short easy read, clear concise information\instruction without a lot of anecdotes and fluff. The system seems to be working for us. We are on day 7 and have only had a total of about 5 accidents in the house and three of those were our fault (like not providing "taxi service".) Worth the read it you are getting a new puppy.

Informative and understandable. I had my puppy three days before purchasing this book and two weeks later, she was potty trained. I used the steps in this book and will continue to apply them as my puppy grows. An excellent handbook for new dog parents.

Didn’t really have any new information or talk about anything that I didn’t already know. The kindle version was edited poorly. The biggest section of the book is “20 most common training mistakes people make” and doesn’t have anything to do with housebreaking, the main subject of the book. It seems like they just needed the book to be longer after discussing the house breaking tricks.

Easy to understand, slightly short on solutions for bad behaviour

I really liked his style and approach to working with my puppy. There are a lot of great tips and advice in this book. It was a little repetitive and I didn’t get one major problem solved - how do you stop bad behavior like biting/chewing our arms and nipping and pulling at our clothes with the positive training techniques?

Great tips

After just two days of using the sample schedule for create training when you work from home my puppy stopped having accidents in the house. This really helped decrease the stress levels in my house! We are on day five and our puppy is so consistent about going out I'm ready to call it a success!

An Excellent Guide for New Puppy Parents

Don’t let the title mislead you in thinking this book is just about ‘housebreaking your puppy’. It is much more than that. Ken Phillips talks about many things you need to know about your pup to help them become confident and well adapted to become a valuable addition to your family. I took a lot away from Ken’s advice.

Good base guide

Covers how to get your puppy heartbroken and a bit about general dog training techniques. A bit repetitive in places and contradicts itself on a couple of occasions, but quite concise and informative. Worthy of 4 stars.
