Travel back to the days of the wild west, where men often lived or died by the speed of their gunhand, and women knew their place in the kitchen. Apparently Jenna, a female Pinkerton Agent didn’t get that memo and, disguised as a boy is scouring the countryside in search of a train robber who can be identified by a scar on his backside, while also looking for the father who deserted her when she was a child. When Jenna comes up on a man who fits the robber’s description, she ambushes him and forces him to prove he has no scar. Oops, wrong guy, but Branch McCauley is going to teach this young lad a lesson, returns the ambush and oops, he is a she - very angry she. Turns out they are searching for the same man, and both are determined to be the one to bring him to justice. Like two stubborn mules, they bicker and banter and snarl most of the way through the story, fighting the obvious attraction they have. Jenna would never trust a man with her life, she has worked too hard to be independent, all because of the disaster her father’s disappearance made of both her life and her mother’s. She needs closure, she wants answers from the man she barely remembers. What both Jenna and Branch find will shake them to their core as they uncover far more truths than they ever bargained for!

Taming Jenna by historical romance writer extraordinaire, Charlene Raddon will take you back to yesteryear, where baths are a treat, sleeping under the stars is normal and the law is not necessarily just. I swear I could hear the horses’ hoof beats, taste the dust and smelled the wood smoke from the fires. Jenna is a woman ahead of her time, with her sense of independence, her toughness, and yet, all of the women portrayed in Taming Jenna had backbone, no shrinking violets in the mix! Branch is damaged by his past, but fair, tough, a little hot-headed, and totally befuddled by what Jenna is doing to him. Gotta love when the big man gets thrown off his game by the “little lady!”

Filled with adventure, great dialogue and enough twists to tangle your lasso, Taming Jenna is a fun ride back into the past with enough romantic tension and fateful twists to almost make me wish I were there for real-almost!

I received a review copy from Ms Raddon in exchange for my honest review, cowboys, horses, cowboys…what’s not to like?

This book kept me reading on my computer no less until 11:30 at night! I just had to know the ending. This is the story of a head strong woman who learns at a young age not to trust men-or so she thinks! Bound and determined to find the father who disappeared from her Mom's and her life 15 years prior she finagles a job from the Pinkerton Agency. She thinks her Dad might be in Utah and this is where she will be bounty hunting, to earn the money she needs to stay in Utah until she finds her father.

I found myself shaking my head at some of the antics and worried at some of the others. She keeps bumping into a man who is hunting the same person. She outsmarts him at "almost" every turn. He finally takes her home to where he owns a hotel run by his sister and her family. Then she finds out that the man she has been hunting and did catch is not the guilty party!

Will they catch the real bad guys? Will they ever see eye to eye? Will Jenna ever find her Father? Will there be happy endings for all? I think I'll let you find that out for yourself! Enjoy this historical romance--I know I did.

I laughed so hard while reading this I woke other up in my house. I can just picture this happening on the big screen. A man dropping his trousers for a mire slip of a girl who he thought was a young guy. People only see what we allow. Dressed as a boy Jenna fooled lots of people. During that time very few women wore trousers. It was scandalous.

While reading I wondered who was taming who. Was Jenna taming Branch or was Branch taming Jenna? In the end I think the each tamed the other.

For some laughs with romance entwined this was a wonderful read.

The bunnies and I give this book 4 carrots.

Adequate romance.

This book went in for longer than necessary. With weird, jarring typos, a heroine who's nearly TSTL, and an overly contrived plot, the story still retains a certain enthusiastic charm. I'd recommend that the author get a better editor to streamline the story. Romantic interludes are drawn out an interrupted so often as to become a running gag... and when our protagonists do finally commit to the deed, description hovers between awkward and fade-to-black. If the author wants to write steamy romance, a higher level of comfort with explicit subject matter would help. This isn't the worst book I have read in the past week, but it's definitely not the best. Adequate.

TAMING JENNA is a western historical romance novel set in the American west. After becoming a Pinkerton Agent in the hope of finding her missing father, Jenna is ordered to capture a train robber identifiable only by a scar on his bottom. Her first attempt is a disaster. After forcing the man to drop his trousers she discovers he isn't the man she seeks. He's actually Branch McCauley who is after the same man she is. Jenna immediately vanishes, but her would-be captive angrily tracks her down. They spend the entire story trying to get the best of each other and wind up falling in love. But before they can find happiness they must defeat the villains trying to kill them.

Jenna and Branch

Jenna is a new Pinkerton detective on the trail of a bank robber and murderer by the name of Black Jack Mendoza. Branch is a gunslinger, and a man who has a strong hate for any Pinkerton agent, looking for the same man, who Branch believes killed Branch's brother. Thinking she's finally tracked down Mendoza, Jenna gets the drop on Branch. This starts a race between the two to bring Black Jack Mendoza to justice. Along the way we find a US Marshal, a grizzled old man, a slick gambler, and a soiled dove who all have a surprising connection. Lots of action and some very hot love scenes will keep you turning the pages.

Branch and Jenna

Jenna was a Pinkerton Agent searching for a wanted man and his reward. Branch was part owner of a silvermine, hotel and mercantile in a very small town. He was searching for the man or men that shot and killed his younger brother in cold blood. Beach and Jenna clash in their quest to find the guilty person. Their story find lots of adventure, excitement and they clash but sparks between them fly as well. Do they each find their man? Do they find love and a happily ever after. You will enjoy this exciting story of want, need and desire as they find their way. This is a *****, A+ book.

Enthralling

I loved every minute of this book. There were many uncertainties throughout the story that kept me reading to find out what was going to happen next. This is the first book I've ever read by Charlene Raddon and she now has a new fan of her writing. I look forward to reading more books written by this amazing author.

Yeah, really didn't like the slight rapey vibe of Branch's second interaction with Jenna. No bitch, I'm not asking for anything, you're trying to make out with me after I said get the hell away.

This is a 3.5 star book for me, so I rounded it up to 4 stars.

* * *

Disclosure: I received this review copy from the author. Thank you to Charlene Raddon for the opportunity. Yes, this is an honest review.

* * *

What makes this book stand out for me is Raddon's depiction of the West during the Gold Rush and her decision to tell that story plainly, without any adornments or romanticism. She's frank about the harsh conditions and the lawlessness, but also tells the success story of the men and women who have persevered and triumphed. It is a beautiful country but also one that is brutal and unforgiving.

"Branch watched his mother and sister die of a fever because they couldn't afford medical treatment. Later his father died a protracted death of black lung disease; an all too common need for coal miners, I'm afraid. When you grow up in a world where life is that cheap and violence is an everyday occurrence, you either become so inured to it that you barely notice it or you grow to hate it with every fiber of your being."
- loc 2555 to 2570

This is the background of Branch and Jenna's story, as they travel through the West searching for Black Jack Mendoza, a man Jenna needs to capture if she is to claim the bounty that will ensure Jenna's future. But Branch also wants to exact his revenge on Mendoza, whom he believes murdered his brother. Same goal, different reasons -- this becomes a recurring theme in our hero and heroine's love story: always just a little bit at odds with each other. I hesitate to call them polar opposites because they are alike in many ways.

The title suggests that Jenna needs taming. She struck me as free-spirited and independent, but that's because she had to basically raise herself -- an admirable aspect of her story. She's gotten by on her wits and abilities and has never needed help from anyone ever. She's a bit feisty and stands up to Branch, but I did not see that as a trait that needed to be corrected or controlled -- and I loved how brave she was. She impressed me with the very clever way she was able to track Black Jack Mendoza and with her skill with guns.

"Lord, if I had half a brain in my head, I'd paddle your behind and --"

She drew the Starr from her skirt pocket and laid it on the table. "Try it, McCauley. Just try it."
- loc 5079

Branch seemed more perplexed by Jenna than threatened -- and it's such an honest response from a man who hadn't really lived around women for a long time. Their first meeting both fascinates and embarrasses him because this young person was able to get the upper hand on him -- and when he discovers that said person was actually a young lady adds to her mystique. He fights off his attraction to Jenna, knowing that someone as broken as him could not possibly be worthy of someone as pure and innocent as Jenna. Add to his frustration that he isn't supposed to fall in love with his "enemy" -- a person vying for the same thing he is.

... How could he ask Jenna to give him her heart when he wasn't ready to give his? There was no room in Branch McCauley's life for a woman. He desired Jenna, but that was all there was to it. Lust, pure and simple. Nothing more. It had simply been too long since he'd been with a woman ...
- loc 2928

This story reminded me of an iceberg -- the case of mistaken identity and the chase for Black Jack Mendoza is only a small part of the story. In fact, it surprised me a bit when Jenna was able to capture Black Jack Mendoza so quickly early in the story, only to have him escape as quickly. At that point, I have to admit being worried that this would happen through the rest of the story -- but Raddon slowly reveals that she has more up her sleeve.

There are plot twists and surprises as the story progresses -- of a conspiracy that runs far deeper and longer than what Branch and Jenna are aware of. (The idea of law and lawlessness that existed during that time is, once again, part of the very vivid world that Raddon has created.) There were times when I had to put the book down, a bit overwhelmed by the length and breadth of the story -- but, I found myself picking it up again because I wanted to find out the answers to all the questions that the author poses throughout the story:
- Black Jack Mendoza
- Jenna's missing father
- the murder of Branch's brother

But Raddon shows that she has planned and paced the story as she wanted and, in the end, the readers will get what they wanted as well: a satisfactory resolution.

The old west, a term of endearment used to characterize the unsettled Western part of the US during the 1800s, the very name brings to mind cowboys, gunslingers, dark and mysterious characters decked out in black hats, with guns on their hips, looking out into the world from under an equally dark cowboy hat. For men the idea of the old west brings the thought of adventure, gold mines, and living out their childhood fantasies. For women, it brings to mind the sexy appeal of a rugged man who has lived out those fantasies from their childhood and the adult fantasies they can live out with those men. However, not everything set in the west is wrapped in a dark and mysterious package – looks can be deceiving and Branch McCauley learns that very lesson when one young man steps into his camp pointing a gun at his backside demanding to see it – only after following that young man back to his camp does he learn that the boy is in fact a woman named Jenna Leigh Whittington, bounty hunter for the Pinkerton Detective Agency based out of Denver, CO. Boy is he in for the surprise of his life when he figures out just who she is and what her mission is…how their two paths merge together when they both figure out they are on similar missions will throw both of them for a loop.

Taming Jenna is a book set in a time when law was not always clear cut, crooked cops were the norm and life was simpler. A woman’s place was in the home, not chasing criminals across the dessert working as a bounty hunter. So to have a main character like Jenna in the forefront of the story is a step outside the norm of society in the Old West where working women were generally whores, but especially in romance books like this one! I love when a book has a strong female lead; it always manages to catch my attention, especially when her male counterpart is basically trying to be a brutish male only to get knocked on his backside by the very woman he’s trying to “tame” is just something I cannot get enough of in books.

This story pulled me into the world of the old west on a level that I never imagined, having read many similar books in the past I was amazed to see how much I could relate to Jenna and feel for her and all of the characters in the book. The author did an amazing job of tying the story together, interweaving all of the back stories of each person involved and marrying the two plots together in such an intricate manner that I never lost touch with the story. I kept reading to find out what would happen next – and then next – and then next – until finally the climax of the story came and separated me from reality! This one is a book I will highly recommend to anyone who loves a good romance-adventure book, especially those set in the old west!

Five out of Five Stars on this one!

Disclosure: I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.

Taming Jenna by Charlene Raddon is a great romantic western. Jenna is one of those characters that, while she still gets herself in some sticky situations, is headstrong, smart and very brave. She is on a mission to find someone and NO ONE is going to stand in her way. She is determined to never allow herself to fall in love. Jenna is a tough cookie.

I love the way she is written. She has just enough spunk and sass to make her seem tough while still having femininity. She can go from a “boyish” bounty hunter to sexy vixen in a heartbeat. I like that this character is independent. There are times when you see her vulnerability and it makes her seem real. You can understand her reasons for swearing off love and you can appreciate her shying away when she thinks her heart is softening.

Branch is big and burly and oh so sexy. I keep picturing a lumberjack when I think of Branch. (P.S. That picture up there in the cover does NOT resemble Branch McCauley in the least little bit. You’ll know why when you read the novel. :D ) There are some lines that I don’t think this man would have really uttered to a woman. It was a little more romantic dialogue than I would have expected. That sort of threw me a little. But I love the way he was written as well. He has a heart of gold but can get things done when need be. Although, there is one part in the story that left me wanting to kick him hard and fast right between the legs! No matter what secrets of mine had come out, nothing excuses his actions in a certain part of the book and he would have rued that day he’d met me. If you want to know more… read the book!

Rembrandt. I had a feeling about his role in this story from the beginning of seeing him. Then those initial feelings were thrown and I wasn’t sure about him. I loved him all the way through the story, though. I wish that he’d had a bit more action in the story. I think that would have really made us root for him.

Black Jack Mendoza. WHO WEE! What a fellow! He is as slippery as “snot on a doorknob”. Here you have this “murderer” that everyone is out to get. They all want him dead. But as a reader, you fall in love with him and want so badly for him to be innocent. He has charisma and charm that are genuine. He can woo the ladies AND the men!

There are other characters in this story that you’ll love, but those are the ones in the forefront. If you love romance novels and/or, you’re going to love Taming Jenna!

Jenna is definitely one tough chick! She dresses like a boy back when that was not the thing to do. She can shoot, ride, and curse as well as any man and even better than some! She is determined to bring in her outlaw, no matter what. She is also positive that she will never trust a male, no matter what. Then she meets Branch McCauley! Things start going a little skewed after that first entertaining meeting.

McCauley is quite a man. Rough and tough and not looking to fall in love. He has been burned before by women and he isn't about to let his guard down for this one, no matter how much she tempts him. I don't think that he even realizes how much she affects him. He is brusque and temperamental, and at times he is so sweet! She can't stand him most of the time and threatens bodily harm often. It makes for a fun read!

I was rooting for them to get together the whole time I was reading. Enough sparks shoot off of them when they are together that I am surprised that they don't set their surroundings on fire. Add to that attraction some danger, an outlaw to be brought to justice, some good shootout scenes, and a emotional history, then you have got one great story!

This book reminded me of all the western type bodice rippers I used to read growing up. I had forgotten how much I really enjoy them. I am always a little perturbed by the way men in these books always seem to think that all a female needed back then was a good roll in the hay, willing or not, to get them to heel. That always irked me and yet it really makes for entertaining reading, especially if the female in question is a very independent, strong woman that can take care of herself and is determined to prove it. It is even better is she carries a bow and arrow and can shoot a gun even better than most of the men she comes up against.

I recommend this book to anyone that loves a good romance that is well written, with great characters that you can really feel something about. The are several intimate scenes as well as some violence, so I would recommend this for adults only.

I received a copy of this ebook free for reviewing purposes. Regardless, all opinions are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

Disclaimer: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

You know how I like my heroines? Headstrong, kick-ass and doesn’t take any crap from a man. And that’s exactly what Eugenia Leigh-Whittington or Jenna, is. And honestly, it’s what drew me to this book. She was so awesome. Independent and strong, she sure as heck doesn’t need a man around her, trying to get her to marry and pop out some babies. She’s on a mission to find her father and she’ll play bounty hunter on the way.

I have to say there were a few parts in this book that had me in complete stitches, especially where she has a very sexy gunslinger drop his drawers and show her his bottom. She’s dressed as a boy and he’s none the wiser, which makes for some very funny reading. Granted when the very sexy gunslinger Branch McCauley, figures out she’s a woman, he doesn’t plan on letting her out of his sights, especially since they are after the same man.

Charlene Raddon impressed me with her historical writing, and I felt like I had been transported to the past. It was a nice change to have two extremely headstrong characters in the same book, though I was doubtful as to how it would work out, but Raddon managed to make thrilling scenes with both characters. And the twists in this book just had me going. The minute I thought I had it figured out, it was something different entirely.

A fun and light read, it’s perfect for curling up on the couch or in bed at the end of a long day.

What happens when two headstrong people meet? Sparks fly. Well sparks definitely fly in Taming Jenna by Charlene Raddon. Not only do sparks fly but there is a smoldering fire then an intense raging fire between Jenna and Branch. I love stories of "headstrong"/"obstinate" women, partly because that is how everyone described me as I was growing up.

Jenna is not just a strong, intelligent young woman challenging how women are viewed but she also has this vulnerability that she tries to deny. Part of growing up is realizing how your childhood has influenced who we are but knowing that it does not have to define us. It is nice seeing this transformation in Jenna.

There are some very steamy, enticing love scenes. Charlene Raddon, the author, does a great job of creating a sensual experience while not being vulgar. She does not cross the line. If you read this book, your husband or significant other might be thankful. Well, that is if he has any of Branch's qualities. Wink! Wink! In addition, there is some violence in this book. It is described but it is not graphic.

This book will grab your attention in the first few pages, and it never lets go. It is an adventure full, sensual experience that you will love, a wonderful historical romance novel. I give this one 4 1/2 stars out of 5.

I love stories set back in time and I love romances, so this book was right up my alley. I kept reading and reading because I wanted to know how it ended....badly! This is the story of a woman that has a strong head on her shoulders and knows exactly what she wants. She has it set in her mind not to trust men, but that is all about to change. She wants to find her dad that walked out on her and her mom years ago and has an inkling that he may be in Utah.

I loved that this was a steamier romance and that there were adventures that were time period relatable. Charlene has taken the western romance and stepped it up! The woman in the story is fiesty and does not like to be told what she can and can not do. I was kept on the edge wanting to know what was going to happen next with Jenna and her antics. This was a fast paced read and kept me entertained all the way through. The love story that is developed throughout the storyline is a classic tale of a historical romance in the west. Thanks so much to Charlene for yet another great read that deserves FIVE stars!

Taming Jenna was a perfect read to lift my spirits and make me chuckle while turning the pages. Jenna, a female Pinkerton Agent has set her mind to bring in her man. Disguised an a boy she’s in search of a train robber who can be identified by a scar on his bum, all the while she is also searching for her father whom had deserted her when she was a child.
I loved Jenna’s go get em attitude, topped off with a healthy does of grit and determination.
Branch is a rough around the edges, take charge type of guy who enjoys striking a match to Jenna’s hot buttons; the two dance around each other until they come to the same conclusion… love wins in the end.
I don’t know about you but a step back in time, followed up with great character chemistry makes for a fun and relaxing read.
I did find a few spots in the book when simply put “back in my younger years” I would have taken Mr. Branch to task for his behavior.
This is the second of Charlene’s books I’ve read and I will be back for more!
I received a copy of Taming Jenna to facilitate my review.

Jenna Leigh-Whittington can track, shoot, and ride as well as any man, skills which have earned her a job as a Pinkerton agent assigned to track down ruthless killer Black Jack Mendoza. Once she earns the reward money for his capture, she'll use it to find her deadbeat father - a man who abandoned her and her mother and ruined their lives. Hired gunman Branch Macauley is tracking Mendoza too, determined to make him pay for killing his brother. What happens when Branch and Jenna meet? And could Mendoza be an innocent man?

Taming Jenna is set in 1879 in Utah's mining country. The confrontations between these two strong characters result in a story filled with action, mystery, and romance. Author Charlene Raddon's vivid descriptions took me into forests of quaking aspen, into rough-and-rowdy mining towns, and in a particularly scary scene, even down into a mine. I enjoyed this action-filled romance, and I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author.

This is my first time reading a book by Charlene Raddon, but definitely not my last! Her writing flows effortlessly as you sink deeper and deeper into the Wild west.

Jenna is great! She’s tough, independent, and doesn’t need a man around to protect her. But I have to say, I wouldn’t mind having Branch McCauley protect me, I mean even his name is sexy.

The dialogue between those two is perfect, and all the twists and turns around them wraps up to be a great story! I was given this book for exchange of an honest review, and I should let you know I don’t give out 5 stars easy. But I couldn’t find anything I didn’t like about this book, and it just makes me want to read more from Charlene Raddon.

If you’re looking for a book with a tough leading lady and a sexy troubled man, then don’t pass this up!

Steamy, erotic, adventurous, and a step back in time are all words I use easily when describing Charlene's writing. And never more so than with Taming Jenna. Branch certainly has his work cut out for him if he's going to tame the feisty heroine of this story. Charlene has taken what would normally be a run of the mill western romance and lit a fire under it, inflaming her characters and giving them a fiery, and somewhat volatile, relationship. Those are the funnest to ready, IMO. I want edge-of-my-seat reading, and that's what I get reading Charlene's stories. Taming Jenna is a fast paced gallop across the American west as it was being discovered and forged. And the love story that develops between her characters will go down in time as classic historical romance. ~ Heart of Fiction blog

With wild determination, Jenna follows her robber suspect. Her  intentional and deceiving boyish appearance hides the sizzling woman underneath. Jenna makes her move on the dangerous man only to find out he is not her prey! Branch McCauley and Jenna are chasing the same man and from the moment they met, war has been declared. She is an independent woman, and not your typical product of the time. Oh well, a sort of fire, guns, and roses effect follows the story of these two as they fight the unbelievably strong attraction between them. Charlene Raddon has a unique way of transporting you into this western reality. A wonderful and sometimes intense western adventure awaits the readers of "Taming Jenna"!

Not a shrinking violet by any means, Jenna is a tough gal trying to prove it in a man's world in the Wild West. She is tracking a dangerous outlaw, Modena, and instead stumbles upon yet another hired gun and perhaps even more dangerous Branch McCauley.

The writing is fast paced and fun. Set in the romantic and rugged Wild West, the character of McCauley is everything a romance reader could ask for. He is a take charge, swoon-worthy man who isn't afraid of Jenna's spunk or determination.

Charlene Raddon creates yet another fun story filled with likable characters and quick, witty dialogue. If you are looking for a great romance to read this Winter, Taming Jenna will heat things up nicely.

I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Taming Jenna by Charlene Raddon is absolutely extraordinary. I giggled as I was reading – wrong man and huh… a woman. I really liked Jenna’s determination and her strong will to remain tough and very independent. Her desire to find her dad and all that she will do to find him. As I was reading along, there was a certain attraction that was growing between Mr. McCauley and Jenna. They did have one thing in common and I was afraid Jenna would fall in love because unwillingly there was sort of a bond here. Go figure. It’s all about having Jenna there in another book unattached and ready to pursue her paths in life with other hot throbs. I will not spoil the ending by saying anything else - it is an historical romance that I really enjoyed reading and I do recommend it.

Confession #1: I judge books by the cover. But in all fairness, I do not recall seeing the cover of this book prior to me reading this book and writing this review.

Confession #2: I don’t read the descriptions or synopsis before starting a book. I like to be surprised.

With that said, I was surprised by this book.

The very beginning, I was a little worried about what this book was about. It was definitely set back in a different time and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the story quickly let me know what I was in for.

Hence, confession #3: I’m a sucker for romance stories. Especially ones that have a chase.

I really enjoyed this story and recommend for those who enjoy a good romance.

Looking for an irresistible wild west man? A spitfire of a woman? If so, you’ve found them both. Taming Jenna takes you through a whirlwind romance like no other. Charlene Raddon once again takes us back to an era where women were expected to be simple housewives but rarely are. As usual, she does not disappoint!

Love is often found in the least likely places; Jenna and Branch prove this point 100%! Put aside modern day expectations and fall in love right along side Jenna. I know I did!

Taming Jenna was not at all what I was expecting! I am not normally a fan of historical romances but this one knocked my socks right off! I definitely suggest picking it up! I read this one in 3 days y'all! It was so good I couldn't put it down. If I didn't have to work I would have had it done much quicker but a girls gotta sleep and work lol (I didn't add eat because I would read while I ate LOL)

Go Wormies Go!! Get it! You won't regret it!
