Fire's Tender Kiss

Rate this book
Reclusive Ranger!
Rough and rugged rancher Thaddeus Payne lived as a recluse in the Colorado mountains, needing nothing but his warm cabin. He'd vowed he'd never allow another faithless woman into his home or his heart—until he rescued a nearly frozen beauty and laid her down on his bed. Come spring, he'd send Sarah on her way, but during the cold winter nights, her warm creamy flesh was more than the lusty mountain man could resist. His first touch of her silken skin ignited a fire in his blood that soon blazed out of control, for the sensuous Sarah was soon returning his kisses with a fervor that nearly matched his own.
Snowbound Seductress!
With nowhere to go and a blizzard raging, Sarah Carlton was snowbound with a man as big as a bear! The delicate, tawny-haired beauty knew she owed Thad her life, but it wasn't gratitude that made her yearn for his warm kisses and the hard length of his hot, muscular body pressed against her soft skin. Spring was just months away and then Thad would want her gone…unless their long nights of loving convinced him to go on savoring her sweet red lips and silken caresses, and to stay in her arms forever!

I wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I did. I assumed it was going to be a typical, problematic old school bodice ripper but it wasn't! So much humor and little quips that had me smiling throughout. This is very much character focused until the very end when a couple villains enter the plot. I loved watching these two go from complete strangers who were so wary of each other, to peacefully co-existing while cooped up during a long winter, to friends and then lovers. I love their lusty thoughts and looks towards each other which both of them would "damn sure not act on!" Sarah was such a strong, mature woman who never let Thaddeus get the best of her in both words and actions. (Thaddeus secretly loved this!) Thaddeus initially acts like an injured bear who Sarah absolutely would not put up with! She gave as good, if not better, than she got. But we see him slowly let down his guard showing his teddy bear side (swoon!).

The third act break-up was a little annoying and could have been played out differently but I guess it fit with Thaddeus's fears and insecurities?? You're lucky she took you back!!

The sex scenes were very well written with mildly explicit details and lacked cringey euphemisms that are typical in this era, (Thad is definitely a boob man AND with a lactation kink!) I appreciated that it took many months before they became intimate.Their flirting was exceptional—witty and very suggestive which was my favorite part of the book!

This was my first Patricia Pellicane and I will definitely read more of her books! I'm curious to know if this book is the exception or if I'll enjoy her others just as much.

Hero finds heroine on his mountain in a blizzard. Takes her home, warms her feet on his stomach & then realizes she's in labor. He wanted no part of it or her but of course things don't work out like he wants at all. Very growly & possessive. Groveling scene could have been more...she gave in too easily, IMO.

This was a very sensuous kind of book—definitely a guilty pleasure. I loved the hero; he was grumpy in a really satisfying way. The heroine was spunky yet sweet, which made her easy to root for.
That said, there were quite a few things that were hard to believe—like how she managed to give birth during a snowstorm with only the help of a stranger (who later turns out to be the hero). It felt pretty impossible. But then again, it is fiction, and in bodice rippers especially, a little disbelief is easy to overlook when the story delivers.

Not a bad novel if you like the brooding, bearded mountain man who saves a woman in labor, then reluctantly takes care of them. Written well, but a bit slow paced setting for me.
