Chiaroscuro is Frank Marchese's second volume of verse. The lyrics in the volume were inspired by events expected and unexpected, real and imagined and by the author's belief that the depth of feeling one experiences in relationships is usually accompanied by contrasting emotions, feelings that are bright as well as those of a more sombre nature. Poetry awakens emotions that may slumber beneath ordinary consciousness, igniting passions to be felt full force. To feel deeply is liberating, for it ushers in an aliveness that supersedes the pedestrian emotions of everyday living.
