Once upon a time, wolf shifter Lia Woolsey fell in love. More specifically, she met her mate and settled down with him in a small town far from the bustling big city she's always known. But she never thought she'd be the kind of woman to give up everything for a man--not even Connor, the mate of her heart, soul, and body. Five years later, she's been offered a once-in-a-lifetime career opportunity she can't turn down. Not even if it means leaving Connor behind and shattering her own heart.

Connor Lowe has everything a wolf shifter could want. His place in the Black Mesa Wolf Pack is secure, his deeply committed work as a doctor running a low-income medical clinic fills his days, and his mate, Lia, lights up his entire life. He's the world's happiest wolf--but his mate isn't. And he loves her too much to stop her from leaving to follow her own bliss, even though he knows his days will darken into nothingness each moment she is away from him.

As the frozen longest night of the year approaches, Connor and Lia face an impossible choice...the kind only winter solstice magic might be able to fix before it's too late.

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!
*** Received the ebook in exchange for an honest review
This is a novella or short story length Black Mesa Wolves story. I was never good at telling where the cutoff is. This is a story about Lia and Connor. This story is strictly about this couple and their relationship tests. I’m used to story with more action, but the story is a wonderful Christmas story that made me smile in the end.

I recommend this story to Black Mesa Wolves fans, and I think any shifter fan would love to read this set with the authors it contains. I definitely plan to read more of this series when I have the chance :)

I loved this book when I read it as part of the Black Mesa Wolves Box Set. Black Mesa Wolves Box Set by J. K. Harper is a set of nine different books of the series all put together into the perfect reading order in one group. The nine books included in this set are: Guardian Wolf, Alpha Wolf, Hunting Wolf, Wild Wolf, Solstice Wolf, Christmas Wolf, New Year Wolf, Protector Wolf, and Fire Wolf. Every one of the books in this set was a wonderful read. Each individual book features a different couple who were forever mate and all of the stories are tied together as members of the Black Mesa Wolf Pack. I think anyone who loves reading about shifters or paranormal romance will love this box set where everyone eventually gets their happy ever after ending.

Lia is leaving Durango for her dream job, unfortunately for Connor that job is across the country.

He knows he has to let her go or he will lose her forever, but this is so very hard and he is going to make this time fun.

Instead of being able to spend Solstice enjoying the festivities with her pack her new boss calls her to start earlier than agreed.

She discovers some very interesting information in all the files they gave her to go through. At the same time Connor makes a discovery of his own.

A fun read with romance, sizzle and thinking outside the box.

I only gave one star for the content. It’s a well written story, I just didn’t think it needed to be told. Nothing happens really.

Although there is an HEA, the story is very angsty with an ambitious lawyer Heroine. Sorry did not enjoy this one, although I really like the rest of the series.

I liked this short story bringing us Lia and Conner. They definitely are having more downs than ups in their relationship. If they would just listen to their wolves.

This is the second novella I read involving the Black Mesa wolves. This story was slightly better than the first, but not by much. The biggest difference is that for this story, I found the characters likable and the situations more realistic. Despite this positives though, this story still failed to grab my interest. I probably will not read any more of the series and I am glad that I got it for free.

Happy winter solstice. 5 GOLD SNOWFLAKES

What a FURLICIOUSLY sweet & spicy tail!! It was one of those ones that make you nervous about how it will end, but WOW! it just made it that much more captivating!! I was immediately engrossed and lived this story right until the very end…without taking a break even to get a drink of water! I was constantly yelling, urging or berating both Lia & Connor in my head, and even caught myself saying it out loud a couple of times! Thank goodness I was at home alone at the time, although my dog was looking at me funny. LOL This one is slightly different than the other Black Mesa Wolves stories in that they already are a mated couple, but that didn't affect my love for it in any way. In fact, I ABSO-FURRY-LUTELY loved that part of it!! It’s not often you get to read a story of any length where they have already mated or married, so for me, that alone scored this baby a gold star! Yes, this is a bit shorter that most of the books we are used to in this series, but it sure didn't lack for story content or for an emotional connection to the characters or the story itself, or anything else for that matter!! In fact, J.K. gave this story the perfect amount of depth & enrichment making it feel like you just experienced a longer story. And the fact that I DID experience it, not just read it, speaks volumes! Which is all GRRRREAT to me!! Simply WOLFTASTIC!

I felt a bit sad reading this one and could not see a resolution to their problems.
Lia with her dream to be a bigshot lawyer in the city and Conner with his big hearted but poor money management of his medical clinic
These two had forgotten what was important in their lives and needed to find the balance to be who they are meant to be.
I thought the resolution was a bit rushed and whilst Lia will find happiness returning to work as a small town lawyer, Connor still has to temper saying yes to every poor patient that comes in the clinic as the grant won’t last forever and they will be back in the same money trouble place they are now.
Hopefully they will find the balance they and their wolves need.

Solstice Wolf is a fairly short read, a great choice for those with little reading time. Lia and Connor's story is loaded with drama, suspense and spice. I enjoyed this book. Solstice Wolf is book 4.25 of the Black Mesa Wolves series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
