Omg this book was straight fire from the first page until the last page. Javon had olé girl wide open. This is one book that you don't wanna put down, I only put the book down to sleep. You really have to be careful who you married things are not always what they seem. You have to read the book to find out what I'm talking about. This is a banger for sure you won't be disappointed at all. Racquel Williams you did your thang girl with this book.
Have you ever been in an illustrious relationship while married? Have you ever fallen in love with the side man?
Malaya is a successful wife, mother, and lawyer. She has her own practice and to the outside world, things look amazing. She is married to Trent and on the inside of their world, things are crumbling and falling apart. They present a unified front to the world but its far a cry from unified. Malaya has a meeting with a client, Javon Sanders, who makes her feel something she hasn't felt in a while. The meeting goes well with a little flirting. Malaya leaves work on a high note. Malaya gets home and walks in on Trent in a compromising position and this is when the fireworks start. Trent is committing adultery and it's not with a woman. Pandora's box has been opened and these two are not going to be able to put the top back on the box.
After the discovery of Trent's cheating, Malaya becomes vindictive and starts a relationship with her client, Javon. Javon is a street dude who has made a name for himself in the streets. He has his main woman, who he also has a child with as well. Javon does what he does on the streets but cannot remain faithful. He thinks he is using Malaya, but Malaya is not what others think or know. Malaya starts to fall for Javon, or, at least, that is what we think. Javon thinks he is using Malaya as a pawn but Malaya has a few tricks up her sleeve that Javon, nor Trent are aware of.
Malaya's world is starting to crumble when Trent suspiciously dies and Javon is still thinking he is on top of the world. Javon's world is starting to crumble just like Malaya's. What actions have caused their world to crumble? Who will come out on top? Who will be the last person standing in the war of love, lust, and murder?
I am rating three stars. The characters needed to be flushed out a bit more with background details. The story would flow better if we had more background details. I will say the ending was not what I thought it would be. We learn more about Malaya and Trent's personality in the ending that could have been used in earlier parts of the story.
This definitely was not what I was expecting. i was expecting the lead to fall for her side piece-not his bedroom skills. She fell in love with an opportunity to use some to remove a thorn in her side. The title implies she fell in love with her side piece…. The story was riddled with inconsistencies whether it be timeline, statements the characters made about themselves or in a reference to a situation. How can a character be in the hospital and at a hotel for you to bump into them at the same time. Are you a tough, educated, calculating criminal attorney or are you a low budget, neck swiveling “hood rat”? Are you the king of the streets or are you naïve as newcomer to the game that can’t spot a setup? The timeline was pretty fluid as well as the personality of the characters. The mentality of the leads in this book was very sophomoric in such a way that you immediately could not take the description of “high powered criminal lawyer and street king” seriously. These things couple with the grammatical errors and lack of structure made for a difficult read. I’m sure the author is talented. I think I will try one of her other works. This story didn’t “gel”.
Damn, this was a very intriguing read. I was hooked from the very first chapter, Racquel did not disappoint. On the outside looking in Malaya had everything a woman wanted, a devoted husband, loving kids, and a amazing job. Yet that was further from the truth, when Malaya gets a new client she ends up doing the unthinkable by starting an affair. Trent, her loving husband wasn't so loving anymore and turned into the husband from hell. When Malaya gets home early one she catches her husband doing the unthinkable, and that starts a web of lies, confusion, betrayal, blood shed, and so much more. This was an intriguing read that held a lot of shocking twist, friends turned into enemies, and the people your supposed to call for help plots against you. Jacob, I had so much hope for him but he letting his anger, and street mentality take over, leaving the people he love to get hurt in the process. I recommend this book to anyone. It's an must read!
From the beginning I was looking at Trent sideways because he was doing way too much. I think Malaya turned out the way she did because of everything but at the same time she needed to know when to walk away. Myesha was something else and needed a good ass cutting for coming off the way she did. So Javon was bae in the beginning but that all changed once I realized just how weak he was. I couldn't understand how he didn't put things together that his boy wasn't who he truly said he was. Malaya and Javon were both using one another and not thinking of the consequences. I thought things would go differently for Javon and Malaya but bad decisions put a halt to it all. Trent really played Malaya but he was dumb at the end when all he should've done was move on with his life. I could only say damn when it came to Javon because his life spiraled out of control in no time. Malaya didn't completely fall for her side dude but I enjoyed the book nonetheless.
Malaya made her bed hard and had to lie in it. Trent did his dirt to his family, everyday he even had the kids brainwashed. Malaya seemed to only want to raise her children in peace. However, she seemed to wreak just add much havoc as Trent.
Javon thought he could keep doing everyone in his life wrong and still come out on top. Javon could have had some back up, but chose to take another route. And his daddy...whew!
Malaya and Trent's kids are caught in the middle and just want peace between the parents. I bet Trent's mom will keep her mouth closed from now on. For her to have turned her granddaughter against her own mother without good cause says that she may not have had the best upbringing herself.
Thank you for reminding us to enjoy what we have and cherish the good times, even if they are few and far between!
Good job Racquel Williams!! Can't wait for your next best read!
This author does great work. I absolute loved reading this. Malaya wasn't happy in her marriage and was lost in lust with Javon sex game. He was playing her but ended up getting played. I felt bad that his kids fell victim to his violent life. I cried for them and their mother. She was down for him and he was cheating on her just to win a case. Abraham was an old G I liked him. I kinda figured he had ties to Javon. Trent though he was smart. But him being a woman beater landed his tail right where he needed to be. I wanted to reach in my Kindle and choke Myesha disrespectful tail. I can't stand smart wanna be grown kids. And running telling her grandmother everything. Devon should've gotten exposed but Malyah was a free woman and that's all that mattered. Hope she thinks twice about a pearly smile and a handsome face. Great Job
I really enjoyed reading this standalone book. I would've been upset if I had to wait for part 2. That Malaysia was something else. She was a defense lawyer and a damn good one. She used her skills to get her out of a tough situation. I thought she was going to crumble, but she didn't. She used her resources. Javon thought he was the man, but he was brought back to reality. He was also very disrespectful to the same women he needed to help him. Trent was a detective who thought he was invincible because of that. He was also an abuser who got what he deserved. There was a few curves thrown into the story, but they made it that much better.
So. Yeah. Ok. The story line was ok but the characters were horrible. That Malaya kept proclaiming she was a grown woman but kept making childish decisions. I couldn't take her seriously after a while. Trent was sick. Javon was what now? He was known as who in the streets? Yeah ok. He had the nerves to say he could read people's behavior but didn't know his MAIN man had set him up. The words from the characters were not backed up in their actions. The characters' random verbage in my opinion made them unlikable and unbelievable.
This is another banger by this author. She never disappoints with her storyline. This is not the typical hood love story. The plot was totally different from what I am used to reading and I was hooked from the very first page. I kept turning the pages, because I was anxious to see what was going to happen next. I kept thinking that I had it all figured out, and with a turn of the page, I realized that I was totally wrong. I can't wait to see what this author is going to come up with next. Great job on this one Racquel.
That damn Malaya was a bad woman, she was always one step ahead of the game. I hate how Javon's kids and baby momma had to die cause of him. This story really showed that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I can't believe Trent was doing dudes. I read this story in one day, it was very well written.....
I enjoyed this story! Very suspenseful, entertaining read as this book kept the twists & turns coming! Malaysia was one tough chick! Trent was an evil one...Javon was what the title implied as this story kept me on edge with the drama! Great standalone
As always this author rights the best books. Storyline was great as were the characters. Trent would have been gone at my hands. Didn't see that coming. Felt bad for Jacob. Mayla was a bad b!!! Well done Racquel as always!! Must read
This book was another great read by Racquel. I enjoyed every minute of it. Malaya was one smart chick. Her husband was something else!! Javon.. Wow them ppl was after him. Sad the way he ended up though..
I didn't want to put this book down ,this chick is a a lawyer but she is ghetto in her heart, she starts messing with her client and tries to get her husband killed, it all go crazy after that ,this is a great read
