The Grey Wolves #9

Den of Sorrows

Rate this book
The Romanian and Serbian Canis lupus rest in an uneasy peace. One of their own, Sally Miklos, the young and powerful gypsy healer, aids Perizada in her quest to defeat Volcan, a long-forgotten nightmare returned to our world. These two packs watch as their brothers across the world, wolves from Spain, Ireland, and America, join their own forces in the battle against the evil dark fae. At the same time, the packs hope against hope that their presence might reveal a mate bond between a pack member and one of the five recently discovered gypsy healers.
While Jacque and Jen miss Sally, their longtime best friend, they have bided their time dealing with their own domestic issues. Jacque and Fane are anticipating the birth of their first child and Jen and Decebel face the challenges of caring for an infant. Both girls are eagerly awaiting Sally’s return, and have Perizada’s word that she will be back in time for the birth of Jacque’s baby.
Vasile and Alina, the Alpha pair of the Romanian pack, are enjoying this time of peace. But Vasile did not become the most powerful Alpha in centuries by being a fool. He has lived long enough to know that there is always another battle on the horizon. As long as evil exists in this world, his race must step forward and stand in the gap, shielding those who cannot protect themselves. But the battle he is anticipating is bigger than he could have ever imagined.
As Perizada has recently discovered, creatures of the night that have for so long remained hidden from the human realm, have slithered from their underground lairs and begun preying on the young and innocent. The high fae has declared war, and she expects Vasile and his wolves to be the ones to carry out the attack. The Alpha is more than happy to oblige. But with his first grandchild on the way and the gift of five vulnerable healers coming under the wolves’ protection, he understands that he must be very careful not to place any of them in harm’s way.
Such is the job of the Alpha, protector, and provider. He and those he leads must stand as sentinels and warriors to safeguard those they love, and the humans who know nothing of the supernatural world. It will be their job to destroy the creatures that threaten to expose them all. And if they fail, the world as they know it, both human and supernatural, will never be the same.

Hello, Readers. My name is Quinn Loftis and I am lucky enough to call myself a novelist. In 2011, I self-published my first novel, Prince of Wolves with no expectations, other than my friends and family might purchase the book out of pity. Now, several years later, with 30+ novels and counting under my belt, Prince of Wolves had been downloaded over 1 million times. Though I was hesitant at the time to submit my work to the world for their scrutiny, I'm so glad I did. It made my dream of making a living by telling stories a reality.

I'm blessed to share my household my wonderful husband of more than twenty years (who also co-writes with me on occasion), three beautiful sons, a French Bulldog, and an oversized tabby cat. I love hearing from readers, so if you have any questions about the books or my journey, don't hesitate to hit the 'Contact Quinn' in the menu above. Thank you so much for taking a chance on my books.

This book was absolutely awesome. This was an ARC so I can't reveal too much information. What I can tell you is that this book made me feel so much emotion. I was happy, laughing, sad, crying, angry, and wanted to stomp my kindle in a million pieces at points. But as always Quinn is amazing and has written an outstanding book. I couldn't put it down from the first word until the very last word. I stayed up way past my bed time to read every last word.

Jen, Jacque, and Sally never cease to provide comic relief, but they also know how to make you feel the emotions they are feeling. They face another evil that feels impossible but will they all make it out alive?

I highly recommend this book to any young adult fantasy readers. The Grey Wolves Series has been one of my favorite series from the Prince of Wolves book. I am totally fangirling Quinn. LOL.

WHAT KIND OF HORSE SHIT WAS THAT ENDING?
Also, same question but for the narrator??

Den of Sorrows had so many twists in it. I did not like that ending and I demand a change! I need everyone to get their shit together because these werewolves are failing right now. I get that the whole vampire thing threw them for a loop.. but damn.

My beloved Sally, she deserved better. First, where the fuck did she go to get this mysterious southern accent? Second, why the fuck did she "disappear" at the end? THIRD, CAN SOMEBODY FIND HER ASAP? I need this to happen first thing in the next book.. or heads will roll.

Then there's Jacque.. I did her dirty man. I spelled her name wrong in the buddy read comments.. but trust me I had such a good reason! I WAS FUCKING MAD. Mad at the narrator. Mad at what was happening to her. MAD at the ending. OH LORD. So many feelings are festering right now and I don't know what to do with them.

Enter wine.

I swear this book deserved better and so did I. After that ending, I have so many questions that I'm demanding answers too. I want all of these other vampires hunted down and killed pronto. I need revenge and I also need my family back together so that everyone can end on a god damn happy note.

Please don't let the next book ruin me or this series.

Wow! I cannot believe how much has happened since Quinn Loftis introduced us to the first book in the Grey Wolves series- Prince of Wolves! We readers have had the opportunity to go on several journeys, meet new characters, and get into a bunch of mischief, right along with Jen, Jacqui, and Sally.

I have to say that Den of Sorrows definitely lived up to the previous books in the series, and I would even say that it has become of one my new favorites! This book is slightly different than the others, in that it's a tad darker. However, it will tug at your heartstrings and you will get the opportunities to see characters in a different light.

One of the things I have enjoyed the most about this series, is watching our engaging cast of characters grow and develop during the past year or two (for them). Jen, Jacque, and Sally are still so young, yet they have had huge responsibilities thrust upon them, without a lot of time to process everything. Yes, they make mistakes, but they also learn from them. We are slowly seeing Jen transform into the Alpha female that she was made to be and sometimes her lessons have to be learned the hard way.

I have to say, the character I was most blown away with was Peri! She really shined in this book. I really saw the maturity and the wisdom due to her years and experience. Yes, she was still funny, but I truly think that her mate has helped her to settle and be more at peace with who she is. She seemed even stronger, if that's even possible. I was deeply moved at how she was able to share some of her perception with Vasile. That man, er wolf, has so much patience and always has a lot on his plate.

As I said in beginning, Den of Sorrows is a little dark, but it is SO EXCITING and I loved all of the new developments! I really cannot wait for the next book. Not only do I need more Costin, but I need to know what is going to happen next!

Okay, first things first, I'm always up front and honest about my reviews...so, here it goes.

When Quinn Loftis announced this book I had been both nervous and excited. This is book 9...yes, 9! And as serious lover of book series I always become more antsy after book 5 or so. Here is why:
1) I become emotional invested in the characters
and
2) I grow attached and love the author as much as the characters
and
3) There becomes more and more intertwined plots and it can either be GREAT or SUCK!

Now, back to this book...
When I open it I can clearly see that Quinn isn't going to mess around with a long drawn out process of 're-living' the last book (something, I love about her)
Quinn has all our favorite characters in this but the plot seems to thicken a bit when more conflicts seem to pop up for our Wolves!

This is what I love:

Even though I was nervous about this book...I'm a dorkfish for thinking that way. This is Quinn and with her comes her impeccable talents of keeping the story lines fresh, funny, serious, and overall page-turning.

I adore that she keeps us in the loop of every character without making it feel as she HAS TO tell us about them. She brings in the plot changes/twists at time you don't think anything bad is going to happen. And most all (and my favorite) she keeps the LOVE going. Yes, there are fights, bickering, and even more stress than any wolf can handle, but it all comes together. The way it should.

I like seeing our pack growing into mature (minus Jen's comments - hehe) and staying the same high-schoolers we met in Book 1. Quinn does it with grace and not at some high speed. I hate seeing them go from being 17 year with a crush in chapter 1 to married with kids by chapter 5.

I know I'm being a bit vauge, but there's a reason: this is book 9!! That means if I start spouting off every single detail and you have read book 6, 7, or 8...then I'll be getting the emails telling me how I SPOILED the plot (and I don't want them).

This is what I didn't like:

It's more of my own personal issues per se...I need more Decebel! It's true. I've been fan-girling over this wolf since 2011 and still he hasn't shown up at my door...This is a serious issue Mrs. Loftis!
Other than that ... no issues with the book (haha! love you Quinn!)

ONE STAR FOR THIS HORRIBLE HORRIBLE NARRATOR! Why would you even switch narrators after 8 freaking books!?! I don't like this narrator AT ALL. She pronounces names wrong, and she can't do a Romanian accent for shit. ALSO WHY DOES SALLY ALL THE SUDDEN HAVE A SOUTHERN ACCENT!? I think this did slightly dim my enjoyment of the book as well.

This book introduces the vampires into the Canis lupis world. And it's because they're killing children. I liked learning more about the supernatural world Loftis has built, but I think there were too many perspectives in this one and the next. New character were added just so we could see them get mated and then their story line ended there.

I hated seeing Sally in pain when the wolves went into the vampire dens. She's such a wonderful person and didn't deserve that pain. I loved seeing Jenn fight, she's a badass and I love her. Jacque should not have been near the fights. I know she wants to help and shit but GIRL YOU ARE PREGGO STAY HOME

Quinn Loftis created another spectacular book in the Grey Wolves Series, Den of Sorrows.  The Romanian and Serbian wolves are helping the high Fae in a fight against the vampires, while trying to keep their existence a secret.  This contemporary PNR is suitable for young adults to adult audiences.

I like the synopsis at the beginning of the book.  I read a lot so sometimes it takes me a while to remember what happed in the last book or in this case I realized I skipped a couple of books in the series. I am going to want to backtrack and read those.

I have enjoyed watching Jacque, Jen, and Sally grow-up since the first book.  I have to laugh, because every time Jen’s name comes up since book three, Just One Drop, I still hear Katy Perry’s E.T. in my mind. That girl crakes me up.  Heck all three of them do.  I also appreciate their conversations with their mates; they make for some good entertainment.  Quinn Loftis does a phenomenal job in her character development.  I can typically tell who is speaking before their name is even mentioned.   The characters have grown tremendously, and you feel like you know them.

The plot is intense and thrilling.  The vampires are evil adversaries who make the story spellbinding.  It is horrifying how they are preying on children.  I love the introduction of Bethany.  I have a feeling she is going to fit in perfectly with the girls.  There were many unexpected twists.  Den of Sorrows was convincing and well described.  I appreciate how each chapter begins with a quote from one of the characters (especially Jen’s).  The story had my emotions all over the board.  The ending had me on the edge of my seat and anxiously awaiting the next book.

Without question, not my favorite in the series. There was one HUGE issue from the very beginning that took a decent portion of the book for me to come to terms with. I have read this book faithfully. I have not missed anything in this series, and while I did break for a number of years between a couple of the books, I still picked up back into this story with no trouble at all. This book however is impossible to follow in the series if you haven’t read the other far series. There are characters and references to battles and things that have no occurred in this series at all. The entire beginning of the book talks about Sally and Peri’s journey and battle with Volcan. However, in this series, the very last mention of volcan was his demise centuries ago and the creation of the dark forest they were held captive in during book 7. So while I have not strayed from this series, I learned that in order to follow this book, I HAD to stray into a different series. That was never made clear anywhere though, so I just had to figure as much out as I could to continue this one.

Once I got to a place I felt comfortable with an understanding the book was pretty good. Again, it wasn’t my favorite and I didn’t love the story lines, but well written and fit into the characters well. On to the next book, hoping for an easier beginning without anymore missing information.

OMGosh!! This book almost killed me! It was so wonderful to be back in the world of The Grey Wolves - the constant bickering between Jen & Dec, the off-the-wall comments from the girls, the diva-tastic Peri-Fairy, the possessive yet swoon-worthy furballs - I had missed them all so much! And they've all been through so much already, but the bad guys just keep on coming. And not a single one of them is going to sit back and watch while innocents are being harmed. So of course they jump right into the danger with both feet (or paws)! I love the adventures but I hate the stress that comes with them! I cried from laughing and I cried from heart-wrenching pain! (The title is Den of Sorrows, after all. Don't take that lightly!) Don't let that stop you because you really don't want to miss this! Just stock up on kleenex and plan on staying up all night!

Awesome read

I chose this rating because I love the suspense! I've read every book of the GWS and I absolutely love them! Jen always speaks her mind and the bond between her and her friends are amazing! The possessiveness of their mates could be unhealthy if they were married/mated to the average girl; however, they are perfectly matched and these young girls can definitely handle their own! Sally is not as outspoken or outgoing as her friends so it was interesting to see how everything unfolds! I wasn't expecting the turn of events especially since she finally been blessed with her own family. I didn't think Costin would allow Sally to go with pack mates and Alpha, so little Titus must have captured his heart from the start. Now about these blood sucking Vamps, I have no words how they did the children whether they're dormant or not, I support the wolves 1000 for intervening! I'll recommend GWS to anyone hands down it's one of the best reads

Wow

Woah huge amazing writing in this book. The adventures and strides are brought to life. Loved every minute of it. I just want more it's as if it's pages pull me and pull me to carry on reading. The authors talent is some of the best work I've seen in a while. Grateful to have found this gem as now I have to finish the series. Will be hard to match this one. Out of all of them I think this one has to be my favourite so far.

Amazing

I apologize in advance because I will criticize this book along with the TGWS series.

After reading the nine books of the TGWS series, I think the plot is sometimes too forced and cliched. some characters seem unwise even though they have gone through many lessons from stories in previous books. this makes me think that over time there is no character development of the characters in the book.

And through the series, I found a writer's tendency to favor the character of Jen and Decebel compared to other characters. as if the writer was split between wanting to write a book that had many characters in it and a book for Jen and Decebel. Jen and Decebel characters have more portion of conversation compared from the other pair like Jacque and Fane and Sally and Costin. this character also has more paragraph portions of images of feelings and thoughts than others. this makes me think that Jacque and Sally's characters are just a complement to the Jen story. whereas the start of this series is Jacque. worse sally characters have even fewer portions than Jacque. (this opinion is based on my assumption that the main characters in the TGWS series are Jacque, Jen, and Sally)

Other than that often I feel tired of reading conversations between characters that are sometimes repeated again, sometimes a lot of humor that is too forced. even in my opinion in some situations, there are characters who speak out of place and I am surprised when other characters are not angry.

maybe this is Quinn Loftis's novel style of writing and I am less able to enjoy reading her book. I apologize because I have different opinions with everyone. and sorry so many grammatical errors because I do not speak English fluently.

********** Contains Spoilers**********

I’ve read this book, and the rest of the Grey Wolves/Gypsy Healers Series a few times since I was first recommended Prince of Wolves on Amazon back in 2013, but I’ve never gotten around to posting a review so here goes. I enjoyed this book, it was definitely an emotional roller coaster, and probably the darkest of the Grey Wolves Series so far. I think that these book just keep on getting better, as the series continues. When one evil is defeated another rises, it’s a never ending fight to do their duty and protect the innocents. I really love the comments/thoughts from a different person that are at the start of each chapter. It makes it seem like the characters are actually real people.

The Vampires in this universe that Quinn has created are completely evil. They’ve been killing children and a risk of exposing the supernatural world to the humans with their horrendous deeds. Pretty much all supernatural creatures are extremely protective of children, wolves especially so this hits them really hard. The High Fae have declared war on the vampires, and the wolves from the Romanian and Serbian Packs are more than happy dealing out the justice. This book overlaps with what’s happening with the Gypsy Healers and Volcan so our friendly neighbourhood High Fae, ambassador to the wolves and trainer to the Healers, Peri is running herself ragged trying to save the world. It’s no different than she’s done all the other times, but at least she has her mate Lucian to help shoulder her grief.

I loved seeing the Fellowship (Jen, do I need to say more?) back together, especially Jen, Jacque and Sally since Sally has been in Farie helping the new Gypsy Healers be introduced to the Supernatural World. They’re in fine form lol. They along with Peri add much needed humour during all the darkness. I’m glad that Vasile finally put the girls in their place, for the way they spoke to him. I believe that Vasile did the right thing by telling the males to lockdown their bonds when he told them about the vampire situation, as he wanted to give the girls at least one more night of not knowing of such horrors. There’s a lot happening during this book, and I really wasn’t expecting the ending, so I’m looking forward to reading the next book to find out what the Fellowship has to face next. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

here we are thrust into more supernautral drama ...duh

Never ending is the list of evil bad do-ers who are out to make our hero's/heroines lives difficult i mean what else do immortal beings have to do but plot to take over the world right!?

Anyhow here are our furry friends fighting to save the world once more against what they think they know is evil but there's so much more evil than even they can fathom. Will the good in their hearts be enough to save them? Can they purge the evil that surrounds them? Though they have come so far and faced so much there always seems to be more and more things that the band of furry fellowship must face off against at every turn just when life seems to get uncomplicated they get side swiped by more
here in the heart of evil can they muster enough good to over throw the dark forces once more!? stay tuned to find out.

So good but I'm a little lost

I feel like I am missing a story or book but I have been reading them in order so I am very confused. Where is the story of how Perizada and Lucian connected...it was just like BAM they are in a relationship and in love with no explanation... I knew he was her mate in book 7 but she was ignoring and running from him then book 8 had nothing and book 9 together and solid!? I even read all the novellas first to see if the story was in there but nope. Hopefully it comes up at some point like a flashback story. Book 8 was cool with Alina and Vasille's story. I can't believe the cliffhangers in this book!! I love these, they are not even a part of my Kindle unlimited subscription and I am purchasing these books... worth it!

Holy crap. This series is going to give me a frigging ulcer! The darkness, the light and the fights, Jesus. Things could not be this bad. What the what, man?! I mean, awesome story. It’s like being on a freaking cliff side and your rope slipping. Your careening towards death only to be snapped back to reality so quickly you pee yourself! (Wide eyes)

Vampires... gah. The nasty, stank, evil monsters are causing a ruckus, as usual. The wolves, a few Fae, a warlock and the elves are on the hunt. Talk about a twisted web of crazy chaos. It’s gonna drive me crazy to see what happens next... cause the ending. Let’s just say this beast of a book left me cursing. #OnToTheNext

I wasn’t planning on giving this book 5 stars because it was a little boring a few times, but then Jacque went into labour and now she and Fane are fighting for their lives, and Sally has been kidnapped and given a “new life” where she doesn’t remember anything from her previous one. So everything basically went to hell.

And who is the man Skender is talking to in the Epilogue?
I can gather that it clearly has something to do with this “Order of the Burning Claw” but what the hell is that. And why is Skender working with them?

Wow! Amazing book

Quinn Loftis is the master at making her readers feel something... I went from excited to scared to tears, over and over. The rollercoaster ride that are the Grey Wolves Series continue in this book. The Three Amigos and their trusty band of hero's are at it again but this time it's against vampires. Everything is going according to plan until Jacque goes into labor then all hell breaks loss and there is no promise everyone will make it out alive.

An intense and darker storyline, the plot is interesting never dull but seeming very repetitive with constant drama and surprising plot twists. The characters are all going through different trials and conquering them with flare and style, their personalities are closely meshed together, very similar with no real difference. I appreciative the different character points of views and this book ends on a massive cliffhanger. Intrigued to read the next, hoping for a happier ending.

Simply put, this book was awesome.

For those of you who ask what is so awesome about this book, the answer is simple. In Quinn Loftis you will find an author who will make you smile, who will bring you to tears and leave you wanting for more all in one book, and for me that is the total package.

So if you haven’t read a quinn Loftis book yet you are missing out on some amazing adventures filled with magic, wolves, elves and so much more.
