From #1 New York Times bestselling author Fern Michaels comes a new, action-packed novel.
The Sisterhood: a group of women bound by friendship and a quest for justice. Now their male allies, the Men of the Sisterhood, have formed a top-secret organization of their own, with the same goal of helping the helpless and righting the wrongs of the world…
With the women of the Sisterhood away on a covert assignment, their significant others could be expected to kick back and enjoy a little drama-free downtime. But that’s not the way Jack, Ted, Harry, Charles, and the rest of their comrades roll. An urgent call has come to the headquarters of their organization, BOLO Consultants. Bert Navarro, head of security for Countess Anna de Silva, suspects that Annie’s deluxe casino, Babylon, is being stealthily and expertly robbed. But figuring out who’s hacking into Babylon’s security system proves more difficult than expected—and may have implications for one of BOLO’s own. The security expert working for them has unlocked one hard fact—that there are more than enough suspects to investigate. But the men of BOLO will do what it takes to prove that, even in Vegas, there’s no gambling with justice . . .
Fern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.
As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.
Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.
Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it. I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.
Loved it! The title is perfect for this book. It is so fast paced and for once the mission details are not as nailed down as normal, falling into place as they go. These men and Maggie are helping Bert to figure out what he "thinks" is a problem at the casino and while the sister are away the boys need some action. They get that in spades, pardon the pun. But will they have loose ends or will this be a tidy, successful mission?
With someone skimming from the casinos in Vegas, for the last nine years, it seems, the guys and Maggie have their work cut out for them. The huge problem in this is that one of their own's loyalty is in question. And it leaves a mile wide rift for the boys and Maggie to try to fix. On top of finding out who has stolen close to, if not over a billion dollars by hacking into the daily deposits of the casinos on the strip.
Snowden is in on this one and instead of a hearing only the sister's and the boys end of the conversation, he takes a more active role in this book. Also, Bert is in China overseeing the new casino's build and start up, leaving his number two in command. But for now Bert doesn't want Dixson to know so while the group is supposed to be vacationing his old CIA training and instincts have kicked into gear and his is not happy about being left in the dark. Especially with the acting FBI director in house.
The guys are really struggling to figure out what is going on, they stumble on another story about Dixson's womanizing ways while there, and then there is another player in this and that is Abner's mentor.
All at once Jack calls a halt and they have to regroup because flying by the seat of their pants and not having everyone on board with the same plan is not working and he will get things going in the right direction and not fail so that the ladies have to swoop in and help them. That is not how this will be working out.
Eventually, they do figure it all out but not before alienating a founding member of BOLO.
A fast exciting read that will have your head spinning, this is, as always an exciting mission and I am still reading these books as fast as I can get my hands on them. I loved it!
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is another novel in the Men of the Sisterhood series which has the fellows in Nevada trying to find out who has hacked into the financial records of a gambling casino. Once again, Fern Michaels has her readers experiencing some strange, unusual, and sometimes funny events. I look forward to reading her books because, while I never know what to expect, I do appreciate escaping from a busy, stressful life while I read them--and I enjoy laughing at some of the situations in which the characters find themselves.
Not bad but not an UNforgetable one either. The boys screw up, Abner is front/center (Vegas is being hacked but not a lot of $$ is missing) and we meet A's hacker-friends. Not bad just forgettable.
This is the 2nd book featuring the men of the Sisterhood. Follow the men of BOLO Consultants as they work to solve a mystery of missing money that Bert Navarro has found in the books of the Babylon. The men go to Vegas and as they work on this mystery they stumble onto other problems. Will they betray or destroy one of their group to solve the mystery of the missing money? Or will this tear apart the relationships of this group of friends/coworkers? I love the Sisterhood series and am very glad to get to know the men in a different way. I was drawn into the life of all of these men and Maggie. And look forward to finding out what will happen next to them. And how will the current relationship of the group impact the Sisterhood.
Fern Michaels is a bit off in the "Men of the Sisterhood" series - a spin-off of her excellent "Vigilantes" series. While this story did keep the reader trying to figure out who was really behind the missing Vegas money, the "guys" missions just do not match the "ladies". Just an OK read for me -- 4 out of 10.
Fast and Loose: Men of the Sisterhood book 2 is by Fern Michaels. This book takes the men of the Sisterhood off on another adventure without the girls. Can they really do a job without the girls to help them? While the Sisterhood, minus Maggie, are off on business and cannot be contacted, Jack gets a phone call from Bert Navarro. Bert was not only ex-FBI, but current chief of security for Countess Anna de Silva based in Las Vegas. Bert was currently out of the country on personal business but kept in touch with Countess Anna’s business via Internet. He had been going over the financial records of her casino in Las Vegas and noted someone was taking small amounts out of it. He checked with other casinos and found they were losing money to some hacker as well. Since he couldn’t verify it and couldn’t go to Las Vegas himself, he called Jack for assistance. Jack and the other men married to or closely connected to the women of the Sisterhood agreed to meet. When Bert told them of his suspicions, the men, along with Maggie, decided to go to Las Vegas and find out what was going on. They figured that a hacker was doing the stealing as no one was able to figure it out. Angus Tookus, their own hacker was their best bet. They figured that only the very best hacker was able to do this and since Angus was considered the second-best hacker, they went to him to find the best hacker. What Angus finds concerns him. Philonias Neddlemeyer was the best of the best. However, he was the one who took Angus under his wing and taught him all he knew. Angus finds himself between the two groups. Who has his loyalty? He finally helps the men and helps them find PIP, the third-best hacker and get her to help them create a picture of Philonius or RC (Robin Hood) so they could identify him. Would their picture of him help? As they get involved in the case, it becomes more complex as the acting head of security, Dixson Kelly, becomes the target of a group of women who had dated him and now wanted revenge; Angus and PIP disappear as does Philonias; the money is returned with interest; and the men have no idea what is going on This is not the best of Fern Michael's books. It is too unorganized. The men are just too flaky and confused, even Charles.
Fast and Loose is book #4 in the "Men of the Sisterhood" series. I really enjoyed this installment because the only member of the Sisterhood who could assist was Maggie. The plot: a call comes into the BOLO headquarters from Bert Navarro, head of security for Annie's casino, "Babylon". Someone is hacking into the financials and taking a small amount of cash, so the amount won't raise any red flags. The problem is, it has been going on for at least 9 years and by now millions have been stolen. Bert wants Jack, Ted, Harry, Charles, Dennis, Fergus and Abner including Maggie to look into the matter. I have to say again, that the guys are not as organized as the ladies when they are planning their jobs and kind of fly by the seat of their pants! The plot was interesting and I'm glad the author focused more on Abner. We learned alot more about him and his background but it was stressful that he had to make the choices, the guys forced him to make. The story had our BOLO guys going to Vegas while Bert is on assignment in China/Japan? A subplot involving the hotel manager and showgirls but what was disappointing was that there really wasn't a crime to punish anyone for! I just didn't buy the ending. Great story, fast paced and mysterious.
I don't give away spoilers in my reviews. Although I'm a big fan of Fern Michaels' Sisterhood series and have read a handful of them, this is the first Men of the Sisterhood series I've read. I hoped I would like it as much as I like the Sisterhood series and I did. It's so well written, full of action and hard to put down. The Men of the Sisterhood are the Men who are married/dating/involved with the sisters. I think my favorites are Charles and Jack. I love Charles' British ways and Jack's loyalty to Nikki. This book focuses on Annie's casino, the Babylon. Something seems off financially and who better to find out what is going on then the Men. The Sisters are out of the country for a couple of months so the Men step in to help. I have to admit I love the dogs in the Sisterhood series and loved reading about Jack's dog Cyrus. I won't give away spoilers but he often made me laugh thoroughout the book. I love the action and the Las Vegas setting in this book. I haven't been to Las Vegas but it was pretty easy to imagine the setting, the sights and the sounds. I also enjoyed the intense friendships that occur in this book. A fun read and I'm eager to read another.
This is a sisterhood book, sort of! The sisters are mentioned, however it is their male partners that the story revolves around. The sisters have jetted off to take on a job and will not be back for months. The men get a call from their H.Q. something was coming down in Vegas and the team was needed. The men took off, however when the heist was discussed, a computer theft, Abner, the computer expert, seemed compromised. It was noted by the others. Lots of computer tech stuff, however their appears something else is also going on at the same time. Abner gets to meet his very own hero, who also, as he knew, was the thief, but Abner and another friend helps him put it all back with interest. In the end, everything comes out in the wash!
Love the Inbetween From the Men's Series Then Reading the SISTERHOOD
As the the Book goes Slow, Good , Slow, As some you get excited, you feel for Abner , Phil & Mary Alice Farmers Relationship, was the Best Part of the Book & of Course Maggie, i love how she has become like Annie. But....NO ACTION, the mission ends with NO ACTION! My opinion is the Men do all their work & bring the Sisterhood in to take care of the punishment! Come on....The Missions and story line great but the ending just drugged out to long....
This book is totally different from the other books in the series. This one takes place in Las Vegas where Abner Tookus takes center stage. His job is to find a hacker who has stolen money from some of the big casinos and given the money to benefit his favorite charities. Abner gets a sense that he knows who is behind it. Where does his loyalties lie? With the men of the sisterhood or with his friend? This book actually has a very happy ending. A fun read with two plots that unfold for the vigilantes.
This book was so well written about men there irony about going about getting things done. Then to have a women character working with them to. They were there to find out what happened to the money and they found out so much more. To of the character 's leave because they feel they don't belong there. Only to find a bigger dream that they never in a million years would happen to them. From there on the story just get's better and better you just have to finish reading the book. What a great book!!!!!!!
This is the first book by this author that I've picked up. I was looking for a quick, fun contemporary. What I got was a book full of men trying to busy themselves while their wives are away, lots of cluches, and half assed characters. There were several phrases that were so oversued that I could tell when they were coming. I was irritated by the writing style, the characters, and even the dog. And I love dogs. This author is not for me.
Not quite as good as the sisterhood series but I did laugh at the way the men kept thinking "what would the women do in this situation!" Obviously I have to get caught up with the sisterhood series because I was floundering at times trying to figure out some of the characters and their relationships with the women of the sisterhood. Reader beware this is not a stand alone series you have to read the sisterhood series first!
The men of the sisterhood go to Las Vegas to help find out who stole money from the Babylon Casino. During their investigation, Maggie happen to find out about a second heist. Abner knows who stole the money and asks his mentor to return the money which Phil does but it causes a rif between Abner and the rest of the team. Mean while the team also is able to arrest the Babylon head of security who is planning a different heist.
I have to say that I was a little disappointed with this book. I was unhappy about how the guys were portrayed. They were made seem like the proverbial ‘key stone cops’. They had no management to speak of. It’s as if they became the 3 stooges and couldn’t put one foot forward without taking three backward!! Although, I must agree that in the end they finally got together. Even had some wonderful friends moments!!
Have loved the Vigilantes series & was glad to know the men had started their own thing. Last I knew, Charles had disappeared. No word or warning, just gone. Now he shows up in the 2nd installment of this series. No explanation unless I missed it all together. Any, this book was good and fun to read. If I missed something about Charles, perhaps someone will share.
The guys do NOTHING like the Sisterhood! They aren't organized, have much of a plan, walk around like chickens with their heads cut off, but finally get the job done. It comes with a big price for a couple of them, and who knows what the next move is. It takes time but I bet things work out in the next book!
The boys are at it again only this time Abner takes the fall by helping his mentor--the guy who taught Abner all he knows about cyberspace and encryption and cyberstalking. The boys really got themselves into a mess. It turns out ok in the end....kind of. Another good read in the Sisterhood series.
While I love all of me Michael's books, this one was just too confusing and way too long. How many times did I get lost trying to figure out who was where and what was going on. It just lost me over and over. For the first time I couldn't wait for the end and then I felt disappointed. I am looking forward to the next book tho.
The guys screwed up! When Bert calls in the guys, they screw up bad! Instead of listening to Abner, they ignore him. He almost loses his mentor because of it. So, he walks away. In Fast and Loose Fern Michaels shows us all the power of trust. Because the guys lost trust in Abner they almost lost his friendship because what is a friend without trust.
So in book 1 Charles is missing in action and Isabel and Abner are separated. Then in book 2 suddenly Charles is back and Isabel and Abner are together. Did I miss the explanation to where Charles has been and how Isabel and Abner got back together. The book is good but not up to the standards we are use to from this author .
This is my second book reading the ' Men of the Sisterhood' series. I liked them both so well that I'll continue with them. I just wish Harry didn't scowl so much and would like to see the softer side of him. I enjoyed both books and looking forward to the third.
This author is known for her sisterhood series. But with the men of the Sisterhood, she shows she can write to more than one group of readers. Fast and Loose gives us a story whose subject seems to shift. When it really turns out to have a few storyline going on at the same time.
Minus the first book that was the same as another, the series has been surprisingly good for being a second spin off of the sisterhood series. I feel the books thus far have had Maggie as the main focus. Since I love the character, I may be more biased with the book. On to reading the next book in the series
I could just hit all the boys well not all, in the brotherhood. What they did to Abner was wrong and they didn't listen. They were not prepare as the girls are when doing a mission. I'm glad Maggie was that to kick their butts
This book keeps you turning pages to see what happens next.
The plot keeps moving with very little drag time. As with all Fern Michael's books you get involved in the story and want to keep reading till you finish the. book.
Even though this book didn't have as much intrigue in it, it was good. I loved the part where Tookus got mad and yelled at everyone. Then the way they had to go on without him. Can't wait to read more about the men of the sisterhood.
