Hive: The Boardless Board Game: Tactics and Strategies

Rate this book
Hive is a board game with a difference - it does not have a board. If you enjoy strategy games like chess and do not have an irrational fear of creepy crawlies, Hive could be the game for you. In this book, Hive addict Steve Dee will introduce you to the game and give you some tips on how to become a good player. You will find out about pinning and pin releases, blocking, circling, piece selection, openings, deciding whether to attack or defend, controlling placement, how to make the most of the pieces (including beetle attacks, and the new expansion pieces), playing defensively, and common mistakes to avoid.

Hive is a great game. This is very much a beginner's guide, not much more than an expanded rulebook with a few tips on strategy and tactics (and some lame humor). But it's good for the novice, or to help out a child who's learning the game.

Just a good book on the subject .

Helps the beginner get a good grounding.
Easy to read .Help with new expansion is a nice touch.

Great intermediate guide to the game

If you plan on playing Hive more than occasionally you should definitely read this. Absolutely worth the cost (with Kindle unlimited :-)

Short, well written and surprisingly funny! A good book for a new player definitely but serious or seasoned players will find nothing new here. If you're after an in-depth exploration into the true depths of this excellence game then you'll be better off reading Randy Ingersoll's book. To be fair the author does suggest this as further reading and it's not a criticism as they are aimed at slightly different audiences I think.

Great book. Looking forward to seeing if they find a way to make a great movie out of it.
