The fact that all the endorsements for this book are from celebrities should be a dead giveaway that this book is full of bad information. Alas, I ordered it from the library without knowing that.
As a fan of Deepak Chopra's work and a beauty enthusiast, I was excited to read this book. Unfortunately, it's not what I had hoped it would be. This book contradicts itself over and over, is disorganized, and the cited research only supports the authors' (differing) opinions.
Radical Beauty: How to Transform Yourself from the Inside Out talks about how you can feel more beautiful, healthy and energized by following the program outlined in the book. The program focuses on six pillars of healthy living that focus on both internal and external nourishment, sleep, living at naturally as possible, avoiding excessive stress and a better understanding between emotions and inflammatory foods. The authors, Deepak Chopra, is a leader in the field of integrative medicine and Kimberly Snyder is a nutritionist. The authors offer tools, food and practical tips that help readers to achieve their highest potential of beauty and health.
They authors talk about foods that support the metabolism and how one can promote circulation so that the body is absorbing nutrients that will help with beauty. There are also sections on skin care, Ayurvedic medicine, balancing your nervous system to help reduce the signs of again and how positive emotional health can also ad in beauty. I found it interesting that the authors also included DIY at home skin care remedies, as I try to keep my skin and hair products as natural as possible and also enjoy DIY. I also thought they addressed a wide range of beauty topics from acne to dry skin to anti-aging. And I liked that the included lots of natural options since I am big on avoiding as many chemicals in skin and beauty products as possible. I personally have not read many book, if any, on this topic so I thought it was a very interesting and helpful book on the topic.
Thank you to the publisher for sending me a review copy of this book.
A great book to read if you want to transform your life through the six pillars of healthy living focusing on your internal beauty and understanding our bodies and what foods we must eat, beauty secrets and more.
I would consider most of this book a refresher course. I have been reading a lot lately about what really constitutes a healthy sustainable life-diet and this book reinforced several life changes that I am planning on implementing in the new year. I did learn new information about the reasons for taking probiotics and the importance of sleep which was useful. Overall this was a good book to read in the off week between Christmas and New Year's when a brand new year is winking at me.
This book was ok, but nothing that new or special as far as I was concerned. It had gotten rave reviews from Ocean Robbins, who recommended it in an email I received. I really didn't see anything that new or different in it.
This was full of easy suggestions. I am not a "self help" enthusiast, however, I often get promotiobal reads and this was pure enjoyment. Love some of the suggestions and I admire the work of Deepak Chopra.
This book is a collaboration between Kimberly Snyder and Deepak Chopra. I am a huge fan of Kimberly Snyder and have now read all of her books. I feel the collaboration of voices in this book weakens the book because I am familiar with Kimberly Snyders voice and perspective on health and wellness and this book sounded less like her. The information in this book is very basic and foundational. It could be helpful for those that are new to the health and wellness community.
Radical Beauty is basically all about finding the beauty hidden inside. It's about how to transform your life and your body from the inside out. It focuses on diet and how that can help create an external glow and how what you put on your skin can help or hurt you. It goes deeper than that and the authors give excellent tips on how to meditate as well as reach a spiritual path to find the real you. It includes helpful tips on how to meditate as well as recipes designed to cleanse your body and provide essential nutrients to help create an internal and external glow, which is nice.
I'm glad I had a chance to read this book as it's made me think about more than just my diet and the role it has on internal and external beauty. The authors are good at explaining why they think you need to incorporate certain ingredients into a diet. I also liked the fact that many of the basic yoga poses that they encourage their readers to do are not difficult. They explain why these poses are important and what role they play in helping the body.
This book has a lot to offer to those who want to focus on more than just reducing wrinkles. I particularly like the fact that authors encourage the reader to implement their suggestions at their own pace. So this is not system that focuses on eliminating something or following a stringent rule or practice. Basically, it is all about finding balance to create a more fulfilled life. With all this book has to offer, I'm sure I will be coming back to it again and again for ideas that can be incorporated into my daily routine.

We all want to look and feel beautiful, right??? Usually beauty starts with what's on the inside. And I am not just talking about you being a good person. I am talking about how you treat your body and what you are putting in to it. Unfortunately, some lifestyle changes to sacrifice in the name of beauty are hard to live with. Give up caffeine??? Yeah, no thanks! But there is science behind everything in this book and it all makes perfect sense to me.
What I really loved is not only do you get the optimal lifestyle to live for the most beautiful you (and all the science behind it) there are also a ton of DIY projects in this book! Not just for skincare, but for household cleaners and more.
**I received a copy of Radical Beauty from Blogging for Books in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are of my own.**
I think it's the wrong season of life for me to read this book. It was a book club pick. I didn't finish it. I skimmed through the sections that interested me, but ultimately, this book isn't for me right now. I am quite sure that getting regular, uninterrupted sleep will make my skin more beautiful and help my body to function better. Reality: I have a nursing infant and three other children, one of whom has been having a lot of nightmares lately. Exercise? What's that? When do I have time to do that without being used as a jungle gym by my three year old? Eating organic produce? Far too expensive to do regularly. Even regular produce is pretty expensive. I could go on, but I'll leave it at that. I appreciate the ideas in the book, but it's just nowhere near practical for me.
It’s so big! That’s what she said. Lol! This is that book that you read and read again every year to remind yourself of all the deliciously yummy information these two beautiful creatures have put together for you. I enjoy every turning of the page as if it was the first time.
Personally, I really enjoyed Chapters 5 and 6, which focus on the *Beauty Mindset* and *Spiritual Beauty*. These sections were thought-provoking and inspiring, though I wish the authors had explored these themes in even greater depth. They offer a refreshing perspective on how our thoughts and spirituality influence our sense of beauty and well-being.
Overall, *Radical Beauty* is a good book that encourages readers to rethink traditional beauty standards and adopt a more balanced, health-centered lifestyle. While some of the scientific explanations can feel a bit complex at times, the content remains accessible and understandable for most readers. It’s a worthwhile read for anyone interested in holistic health and natural beauty.
Some good advice, some unnecessary rants. They are really anti-GMO, which is silly. We've been modifying plants for as long as we've been planting them. Genetic modification just lets us be very specific instead of relying on repeated cross-breeding experiment guesses. Also audio repeatedly advises going to kimberlysnyder.com to get recipes, but that just re-routes to shop.mysolluna.com, and you'd better remember the name of the recipe you went there to look for, or you will never find it. Probably the recipes are actually printed in the book, which would make things easier. Might have to give in and buy a blender. A lot of the smoothie recommendations sounded really good.
Some practical advice on nutrition. But a promotion of Ayurveda and New Age concepts that are roughly speaking Hinduism in disguise. I got some viable information from this book, but I don't necessarily appreciate being lured into new age philosophies. Obviously I know Chopra's credentials as a proponent of Ayurveda and New Age beliefs but I did not expect this particular book to dedicate about 30% to his personal subscriptions to these beliefs.
Very insightful reminders to get in touch with your inner self and remember how strong the mind is and how easy it is to neglect oneself. I like how its broken down into six pillars so the reader can digest the mind, body, and soul as separate entity of a whole. It's a great read to come back to from time to time and pick out a focus that one might need to refresh and renew oneself without being overwhelmed.
This book provides ways to transform yourself, to the better, from inside out. Deepak and Kimberly states six pillars that can help us achieve Radical Beauty. I find the tips here to be practical and useful.
I love the practicality and structured approach. It is an inclusive overview of all that makes us flow from inside out, and Deepak’s intervention in the final chapter with regards to the spiritual is a cherry on top.
At times the book was overwhelming but overall very helpful and interesting. I will be reading this one again. Especially liked chapters on sleep and home environment.
Very confusing book to follow, because the two views don’t build on each other. They each just share their views - which makes you wonder why they wrote a book together.
