When Ginny Austen left home, she took her big dreams and her broken heart with her. She needed to escape her small town, but most of all, she needed to escape Luke Porter. Her first love, and her first heart break.
But when a new job sends Ginny right back to where she started, the past she tried so desperately to leave behind reappears in the form of a broad-shouldered, smart-mouthed hunk, Luke who is impossible to resist and determined to make up for lost time. He still plays a mean game of pool and is super skilled between the sheets, but this new and improved Luke is ambitious, successful, and hiding pain of his own.

Sparks Fly is a debut novel of Bella Cruise about achieving ones' dream and second chance romance. This had me captivated because of the plot and how the author write it in a way that makes it unique with her characters.
So the story started off with Ginny Austen -- a big-city wedding planner that just landed a job of a lifetime. The problem is, her celebrity clients wanted their reality quirky-home-town wedding to be set in Pelican Key Cove.... ....her hometown which she hasn't been back for about 10 years since she high-tailed out of town in her old pink convertible the night before graduation, leaving everything— and everyone— behind. However, the only thing that kept her away from her home town is her couldn’t-be-more-ex ex-boyfriend. That one person she is closest to in the whole world and the one who understood her better than anybody else. The one sIhe's chicken to face because of the way she left in the past... the past that has the face of an angel, with a devil of a sense of humor ---- Luke Porter.
“So you need to be sure when you leave someone. Because sometimes, you can’t ever heal that wound. A broken heart stays broken, and it can’t be fixed back together again , no matter how hard you try – or how much you still love them.”
Overall, I love this story. It might be an easy read but make no mistake, this book is one helluva great that made me shed a tear or two as I go through with it. I admit I'm a sucker at second chance romance and I love how Ms.Bella Cruise had written this book uniquely so as not to make it so dull and just barely straightforward. The secondary characters' incorporation gave color to the story that will make you love them aside from the lead characters. It's funny...entertaining and flawlessly written. In my opinion though, I would love to have a book maybe in Luke's POV perhaps so us readers will be enlightened more about him and about his thoughts and maybe a 'lil bit of their HEA.
So, if you're looking for a light read book that will make you smile and fall in love over again, this is just the perfect one.
arc for honest review. At first, something like 5%, I thought I am not going to like it but boy I couldn’t be more mistaking. I LOVED IT! 4 sparking stars!! Ginny a wedding planner is getting a huge opportunity – to plan a wedding for pixie and clyde – reality celebs on princes park avenue show. Although she has fears in her heart about the whole thing she know this is the break she is be waiting for a long time, this is the chance to go big with her company. But pixie want the location of her wedding in Ginny's home town and that is the BIG problem – Ginny had ran away from her town, her EX-boyfriend – the epic love of her life and her past secrets and she knows all her feelings will be up the moment they hit town. I like Ginny character a lot, she is strong and funny, I share her thoughts about the perfect kiss on wedding. Bella had done good with the way I felt her pain and joy and the way I felt the connect between the characters and me. Luke is very sweet and handsome, although I thinking bella has to give an extra depth for Luke's character. In addition, I was missing some sex scene and the sexual tension. So 4 sparking stars and I can tell you that , it can be an amazing movie, I could see it in my eyes, all the background and all…
This book was amazing. A sweet, fun, light hearted, romantic and quite humorous at times romance, this is the perfect end of summer read for fans of romance who like their books a little more cleaner than most in this genre. This book was a blend of sexy and sweet giving it a romantic feel that makes you feel all warm and cozy inside. For a debut novel by this author, she knocked it out of the park and can only go up from here now. I cannot wait for more in the near future!
This is Ginny and Luke’s story. Their second chance love story was beautiful, sincere, wholesome and awe inspiring. From the beginning, I was drawn to Ginny. I admired her strength and determination to be the best in whatever she did. Enter her long lost love Luke. Complications. Misunderstandings. TV. It is going to get a whole lot of crazy before it can all work out. Can these two find love amidst the drama and chaos? Get ready to smile, laugh, swoon, and fall in love.
I can't stop smiling. Sparks Fly is the absolute perfect second chance summer romance that will leave you in a blissful state, much like a fairytale does for a young girl.
This sweet story follows Ginny Austen, the big city wedding planner who gets the offer of a lifetime. But that offer takes her to the last place she wants to go, home. She is forced to deal with her past head on-- no more running-- all while managing to plan and coordinate the biggest wedding of her career.
Sparks Fly brings second chances to life when High School sweethearts, Ginny and Luke, get forced together after 10 painful years apart. This endearing book will bring the happy feels: elation, love, laughter. But it brings in some heartbreak too.
If you are looking for a pleasurable and charming read, look no further. Sparks Fly is just what the doctor ordered.
**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed on behalf of Bookalicious Babes Blog. **
The story was cute, the ending was too quick, but the reason for 3 stars was the dialect. Maybe I've not experienced Florida enough, but some of the things the characters said sound like something my grandmother would say, not a 28 year old. I really liked the storyline, though, so I didn't quit reading when I might have otherwise.
Bella Cruise debut novel, Sparks Fly, had plenty of angst, emotion, humor and at times tears! I loved her writing, how she told the story, the characters of the story and how the story made me feel the heartbreak and emptiness of both Ginny and Luke. At times I would get provoked at both of them for being so doggone stubborn about stuff. My fingers ae crossed hoping that we will get more of Ginny and Luke because I think there is a lot more story to tell.
Do we really get a second chance at love? Sparks Fly is exactly that. Small town girl Ginny Austen left home 10 years ago for the big city. Leaving behind not only her family, BFF but also her high school boyfriend, Luke Porter. She left with aspirations of achieving something bigger and greater than what she could accomplish had she stayed in Pelican Key Cove.
Ginny’s determination and rigorous attention to detail lead her to becoming a successful wedding planner. Then came the opportunity of a lifetime. Ginny was offered the job of planning the wedding for a reality show couple. Success putting on this wedding would come with tons of free exposure and the possibility of her business flourishing.
What are the chances that accepting this job would land Ginny back in her hometown? Back where Luke was. Well, that is exactly what happened when TV couple Pixie immediately fell in love with pictures of Pelican Key Cove. And Pixie gets what she wants and that was the wedding destination of her choice. Blindsided by the turn of event Ginny reluctantly realized there was no avoiding what she had to do.
Left with no choice but to head back home, Ginny begins her trek there. Feelings that were left unresolved between her and Luke make this trip going back both agonizing and emotional. Flashing back through memories of the night she hightailed it out of town …. leaving without a word to Luke, breaking his heart, but also leaving him with unanswered questions. Not only had she broken his heart but she left hers behind with Luke.
Arriving back in Pelican Key Cove Ginny submersed herself into plans for Pixie & Clyde’s wedding. Burying herself in her work helped lessen the chance to dwell on Luke but Ginny knew it was inevitable they would run into each other. As luck would have it, it didn’t take long for the meeting to happen. Seeing Luke brought all those old feelings Ginny had back to the surface. Luke had never vacated his spot in her heart.
We meet Luke when Ginny has returned to Pelican Key Cove in preparation of a wedding. He’s ten years older, more handsome than ever and is a successful businessman. An architect, now designing and building, multi-million dollar custom homes. He’s far from the carefree guy that Ginny knew when she left but every bit as alluring to her now as ten years ago. Will these two be able to work together?
Is it possible for Luke to forgive Ginny for the way she left? Does he still have feeling for Ginny? Can Ginny possibly leave Luke behind again? Would there be a second chance for Luke and Ginny to find their HEA?
This was a fun entertaining book. I loved Luke the most. And the aunts are a hoot and a half.
The story is light but has some serious undertones. Especially when we get to why Ginny left the way she did. It’s understandable why but I still felt it was wrong to do to everyone. Luke especially. Her leaving though worked out best for both of them because Luke took it to become someone she would desire. To show he wasn’t a laid back I will become like dad guy. He went after his dreams and became successful. He never really got over Ginny so when she came back into town sparks did fly even if he did try to contain it at first. In the end he tried to keep himself from being hurt and left only to hurt himself and have to come to realize what truly mattered to him. This was only achieved when he saw the last episode of the reality show Ginny was being a wedding planner for.
So why did Ginny go back home? A wedding of course. Not just any wedding but a reality show wedding. One that could make or break her career. This is where the fun began. Watching her try to put together a wedding in a month, please a bride, please a network, mend past friendships, spend time with her aunts, keep her aunts in check and rekindle love with Luke was entertaining.
The book is lively. The characters all have you like them. Some more than others. The aunts crack you up. Ginny at times you were frustrated with because she was caring more about the network than the bride but in the end she did what was right no matter the consequences. Luke fell in love with. He was kind and sweet. The story was fun and kept you smiling and in the moment. This isn’t a book that needs you to focus and find the hidden meaning. It is purely entertaining and does a great job at this. A light fun one sit read that keeps you entertained as you read about Ginny and how she lands a reality tv wedding, plans it at her hometown while facing her past and rekindling love. The disasters, the love, the laughter, crying and letting go of past pain and heartache. Watching a young woman go from being agreeable to everything to getting a backbone and deciding to find herself and true love instead being popular on tv. But most of all the love story of Luke and Ginny is what kept me wanting more. These two made the story come to life and bring about a wonderful ending.
I was not expecting the whole drama that went on all over the book. However, I did expect that I will love the story. Ginny and Luke's present are something I was really looking forward to but, there were so many things going on that I felt like they didn't have that many moments.
Celebrity wedding was the only thing that made her need to come back to her home town. Ginny, I don't know how to describe her. She left town because she didn't want to get stuck. I get that. But after a decade she comes back and she actually expected so much to happen with her and Luke's relationship when she knows that what she did was hard to get over. I admire her bravery though. She went and opened herself again for Luke when she could clearly see a lot of risk. Honestly, every time Luke connects something that is happening in their present to their past my heart breaks for Ginny. It was like, I was the one who gets tears while she was really strong on holding her feelings back.
I really thought it was Luke who had made a huge mistake in their past that caused Ginny to move away. In a hindsight he was but in all honesty, he was also just protecting his heart like Ginny. I was proud of him and of what he made for himself. At one point I may have said, take that Ginny.
I loved the romance, it's the whole chaos in the book that I did not like, too many characters that don't really need much mentioning. The aftermath was something to look forward to though. I liked how everything didn't work out at first, it literally broke my heart cause I expected everything to go well but then it was all romantic and full of love. ♥
Please note that SPARKS FLY was originally published as BEACH WEDDING. My review relates to the original edition.
Please note this review may contain spoilers.
I have to start off by saying that I absolutely love the cover for BEACH WEDDING. It's so bright and colourful and a perfect compliment to the story inside. Ginny has just been handed the opportunity of a lifetime: a chance to plan the wedding for reality TV stars Pixie and Clyde. There's just a slight catch, they want somewhere off the beaten track and think Ginny's home town of Pelican Key Cove is the perfect location for not just the wedding but to film their upcoming season too. The only problem is that Ginny hasn't been home since she left ten years earlier, driving away in the middle of the night and leaving her family, friends and boyfriend behind without ever looking back. But this opportunity is too good to pass up despite the risk of seeing her ex, Luke, again. It's quickly apparent that time doesn't heal all wounds when she finally comes face to face with him again.
I really enjoyed this story and all it's characters. Ginny and Luke are obviously the main characters, but every other character helped make this book what it is without overloading it. BEACH WEDDING is a second chance romance filled with awkward moments, embarrassing situations and humour. Lots and lots of humour. The sex is skipped over, so if you're expecting something raunchy and juicy, you won't find it here. But you will find a nice book with a cute story, quirky characters, hilarious happenings and most importantly a HEA.
Ginny: "We're going to walk right up to the line of tacky, stare it in the face, and then throw some glitter at it."
This was a fun, lighthearted read that I really enjoyed. There was humor, an interesting plot, and the best cast of supporting characters that I've read in a long time (I'm hoping this is the start of a series)!
Wedding planner Ginny is working for a popular reality TV couple. They want their wedding in her hometown, where she left years ago without saying good-bye to her boyfriend and best friend. I'm not going to give spoilers, but I thought it was interesting and was able to understand Ginny's reason's for leaving. I liked reading her interactions with her aunts, assistants, ex, and friends. Like I mentioned earlier, some of these characters need their own stories!
It was fun reading about the making of the reality show, and Ginny gave us lots of feelings about why she made the choices she did and how they were affecting her now. It's a cute second chance romance. I wish we got to see a little more of Luke and Ginny as a couple as adults, I got a good sense of them together as kids though Ginny's memories, but as adults I didn't feel their relationship as much (though, the sex scenes were fade to black, so maybe that's what I was missing).
If you're looking for a fun and entertaining story, I totally recommend it!
Beach Wedding is a second chance romance between Ginny and Luke with lots of quirkiness in between. I am digressing let's go back to the cover, I love the cover of this book it's refreshing and bright tells you this book is going to be loads of fun, and it was. It's a lighthearted book with loads of laughs and you will fall in love with Ginny and Luke and all the supporting characters. There is only a small amount of drama, but we can't always have sunshine and rainbows, that's not real life. Ginny and Luke take a long while to get together but with planning the wedding, Ginny's Aunts, who are a real hoot by the way and everything else in between, you don't notice because you are engrossed anyway. This is not a erotica type of book, the sex scenes fade to black, but you can still feel the chemistry between Ginny and Luke. So really if you want a lighthearted read with laughs and just the feel good feels, this book is for you. Reviewed for HeadTripping Books by Carolyn
I'm a romantic at heart and Bella Cruise can definitely deliver an excellent romance story. Luke Porter and Ginnifer (Ginny) Austen were sweethearts all through their high school years. Ginny had big dreams and never saw her future staying in her hometown of Pelican Key Cove in Key West Florida. Luke, on the other hand, wanted nothing more than to settle down and get married and have children. Unfortunately he just didn't have a lot of ambition at that time. So they went their separate ways and now ten years later Ginny is reluctantly back because of her job as a wedding planner. She's here to plan a wedding for a TV reality show couple and in the process may just get her own second chance at romance. I loved the push and pull, the angst and all the possibilities while reading this story. This author has a new fan in me.
Sparks Fly by Bella Cruise is a quirky, second chance romance that will nudge at all your feels and leave you glad you gave the book a try. The main characters, Ginny and Luke, were in love once but when Ginny left town the day before graduation and left Luke and her hometown in her dust she never looked back. Ten years later she is back in town because of her job an that is when things get real. The past is a dangerous thing when it can come back and bite you like it can with these two. But their ride is worth it for their own Happily Ever After.
DNF at 10%. I had a really hard time getting into this. It tried too hard to be funny and as a result the dialogue was very disjointed and annoying. Life's too short.
ETA: I should have gone with my initial assessment and not finished this book. I was bored so I decided to revisit this book. The beginning was boring, but maybe it gets better, right? Well, I found out that I couldn't stand the h, the big mistake, and the H wasn't all that great either. Plus we only hear from the h, and the story was really missing some more development for the H. Overall, the writing was engaging enough once you get past the first 15%, but the plot and characters fell flat.
That was an amazing sweet and loving story, is was fun and romantic. This is the debut of the author and she don’t disappoint, is a cleaner romantic story that takes you away from the routine of tortured classic guy goes after the girl who does not know about it, because this is a short story that leaves waiting for you more but is well written. Would have been better to have more background from Luke but is ok. I loved the story and I left wanting for more so I hope that the author surprises us with the continue lol. Seriously well done Bella I love it!!!
I really enjoyed reading this book. rekindling a romance from your past, realizing that feelings haven't changed. that's a storyline everyone can get into. definitely recommending
Being born and raised in Daytona beach, Florida, I always love when I read books that take place in my home state. Hehe. Anyways, This is a Great, Fun, Read. Wedding planner + Sexy Construction guy= GREATNESS!!!
