For David, what should have been a peaceful journey home on the Friday evening commuter train, rapidly descends into terror and madness. Who is the mysterious, pale lifeless looking woman sitting opposite him on the train? Why does she haunt his mind and stalk his every movements.

Back home, his delusional behavior worsens until he cannot decipher what is reality or a figment of his imagination. Convincing himself he's merely sick with a flu-like illness he seeks the safety of a local bar and eventually into the arms of a former lover. Although Nina comforts and reassures him, David's fevered mind is rapidly spiraling out of control.

With the mysterious, pale lifeless looking woman uncannily always just a shadow away, tempting him with the words 'KILL.' Whom can he trust? Can he even trust himself?

Psychological thrillers do not have to be long or overly complicated to grip the reader and terrify. Drew Scott has a fantastic talent for taking the ordinary and making it a little more than unnerving, as is showcased in this debut short story.
The lustful edge to the story that merges with superstition and the supernatural that fractures the mind, lending a much more sinster atmosphere to the narrative than you will find on other psychological thrillers of the same ilk.
As a reader, you are kept on the edge of your seat with the rarest of elements in psychological fiction – unpredictability. One of the hardest things for a writer to create is a suspenseful atmosphere that can affect the mind in such a way that it draws you in and causes a very real sense of fear whilst you are reading.
As a short story it is surprisingly enjoyable and due to the singular focus of the story on the character of David, the development of character is done well and adds depth that is often missing from short stories.
The use of language is excellent, words are not wasted on waffle in the short narrative as it unfolds, each one seems almost to be specifically chosen to have the most impact on the reader when creating the aspects of fear, terror, shock and let the reader grasp onto elements of hope that briefy glint through in the story but are soon overwhelmed by the darker components.
There is a fast degeneration of the mind that coupled with the supernatural themes in the book does lead to moments where the realms of believability may be pushed too far from some readers. However, on the whole, this book is a gripping and interesting read that is sure to appeal to psychological thriller fans.

I think this is amazing book of horror #TheDevilCameLooking by @DrewScott! It gives me mystique, horror, tension and outstanding atmosphere of fear something that coming to David. Demon soon will take him so he doesn't know what next will be. He just afraid of everything - what he sees, what he wants to touch, what he loves. It scares him. He think that Nina could be his victum and he tries to run. But where? Devil will find him in anyway.
I love how Drew Scott using elements of description, how he wrote dialogs and another tricks to make readers to fall into his book full of darkness and also light in the end of the tonnel.
I really enjoyed it. Would be happy to read second book!
Thank you!

I really enjoyed the mental decline of the main character, David, as he went about his day to day. His actions and thoughts were spliced by the unknown entity slowly taking over. Is it real or imagined?

I enjoyed reading this book and was happy to not have actually known how it
would end. Nothing makes me happier than a good surprise that leaves me wanting more. I have never been a fan of short fiction, but 'The Devil Came Looking' made me reconsider
what shorter works can offer. I look forward to reading future works from Drew Scott.

FINE WRITING IN A GULP

In the great tradition of De Maupassant and Poe, Drew Scott, in his THE DEVIL CAME LOOKING, manages to flesh out one insightful hallucination scene after another. Not knowing beforehand what the plotline was, imagine my surprise when I sat down to begin this book and intrigued by his fine literary writing coupled with taut surprises, took in this fine novella in one gulp. 5* indeed!!

As Smooth Jazz is to Music, Scott's writing is to reading!

Like lava pouring from a volcano, Drew Scott's word flow like liquid magma across the page and scorch your brain with intensity! This is a gem of a short story that rivals the great authors of our time! Obviously, the similes are contagious, but this review does not do them justice, this is definitely worth a read!

Wow

If you would like a brain teaser this is it. You will ask yourself if any of this is real or if it's only the darkness that lies within a sick, broken man's head. Maybe the devil is within use all waiting for life to beat us down enough to take control.
Good read, well written, two thumbs up for this author.

Okay, so now I need to know what the heck is happening? This was a fast read. A very short tease. He is constantly fighting a internal battle it seems. Is he evil? Has something taken over his mind? These are the questions I am left with. Dang I need to know.

An intriguing quick read. Cleverly done as not always clear whether the character's perceptions are real or imagined. Would look at a full length novel by this writer.

It's a slow descent into madness. What is real? What is paranormal? Is this mental illness? It leaves you haunted, and a little bit disturbed.
