Told from the point of view of the Wraith, this novella sees the Atlantis team called upon to help find a missing Wraith queen, lost on a plague-ridden world.
But the shifting tides of trust and mistrust among the Wraith and between the Lanteans and their tentative allies threatens to jeopardise the entire mission – and the nascent alliance between the Wraith and Atlantis.
This 40,000 word novella is set after the STARGATE ATLANTIS Legacy series.
Scott studied history at Harvard College and Brandeis University, and earned her PhD. in comparative history. She published her first novel in 1984, and has since written some two dozen science fiction and fantasy works, including three co-authored with her partner, Lisa A. Barnett.
Scott's work is known for the elaborate and well-constructed settings. While many of her protagonists are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered, this is perfectly integrated into the rest of the story and is rarely a major focus of the story. Shadow Man, alone among Scott's works, focuses explicitly on issues of sexuality and gender.
She won the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in Science Fiction in 1986, and has won several Lambda Literary Awards.
In addition to writing, Scott also teaches writing, offering classes via her website and publishing a writing guide.
Scott lived with her partner, author Lisa A. Barnett, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for 27 years, until the latter's death of breast cancer on May 2, 2006.
I've never read the Legacy series - and I decided to read the SGX series before the SGA one. Whoops. With that perspective, I found this pretty meh at first because I had no interest in the Wraith characters. But the novella improved as the mystery deepened.
Lost Queen is an unusual Stargate book. While most of the Stargate books are written from the perspective of humans, this one is completely written from the Wraith' perspective.
I have to admit, that I'm not very interested in the Wraith. It's nice that they got a more complex backstory in the Legacy series, but I don't need a complete book about them even if it only has novella length. Because of this, I was about to DNF it, until Sheppard's team appeared. Afterwards the book got at least a bit more interesting for me.
The story is quite good, but I would not recommend it to anyone who does not love the Wraith.
Interesting from the Wraith's point of view. It builds their culture into a fascinating web. I kept wanting the Lanteans with their own pov chapters and intertwined stories. But that would have been a longer book. Interesting to continue the story after Death.
A decent read, kept my attention, but I am so done with the wraith lore at this point. They keep making stuff up about it, keep forgetting the things they made up in the previous novels. Enough is enough, honestly.
A fascinating tale; we were treated to the Wraith's point of view during the Legacy series, but never was the story told entirely from the Wraith perspective! Nail-biting intrigue from start to finish!!
A post-Legacy Wraith-centric novella by Melissa Scott? Just what I needed.
A Wraith hive is missing its queen, whose ship is believed to have crashed on a planet on the human side of the border set up by Atlantis's treaty with Alabaster. Reluctantly, the Wraith therefore ask the Atlantis team to aid them in their search.
I've probably mentioned about a hundred how much I love what Melissa Scott, Sally Malcolm and Amy Griswold have done with the Wraith origin story, culture and characters in the Legacy books, and I'll probably say it a hundred more. I'll take more of this any day! Loved having a complete story told from the Wraith perspective. More please!
Takes place sometime after Stargate Legacy Book 8. Not a full novel but rather a Novella which might bother others but I was fine with it. Story dives into a mysteries disease taking place on a planet within the atlantis treaty worlds but near the edge. SGA Team is trying to cure it. Two Wraith sister queen's meet regularly and when one doesn't show up the other sends a ship and rescue party. comprised of each hives most trusted consort and a elderly storyteller(Wraith historien) with loyalty to both queen's. They find evidence of the queen's cruiser on the planet SGA-1 are on. Tension among all grow as Lantien's and Wraith work together. Great story.
This Stargate Atlantis book takes us through the eyes of the series most feared enemies the Wraith the species that drove the Ancients back to Earth. This book deals with the loss of one of two Wraith queens and their adventure to find her and her downed ship. Along the way they do find her but also a dangerous plague brought by one of the Wraith, the end will keep you guessing until the last page. I recommend this book for all Gaters.
Short but good story. Following were the Legacy series ended, and opening a new path for future tales.
although SA1 are in the back and not the main character, they are behaving as expected, you can clearly see them in front of you. Having a new wraith introduced, made it extra interesting.
This is a novella that is written from the wraith's perspective during a joint mission with the Atlantis team. A nice mystery unfolds throughout, very enjoyable.
A really good, but short! - entry to the post season 5 series of SGA books. This one is from the Wraith point of view. It's very well done, and Interesting! A good read for SGA fans.
