Grimm Conversations is my favorite read so far of 2016.
It’s an excellent collection of 14 Grimm character conversations you could only “overhear” in the wonderfully re-imagined fairy tale world of writer and poet Marie Lecrivain. You read that right – conversations! No descriptions, no commentary, just 2 of your favorite Grimm characters talking and sharing their lives for a couple minutes. In my mind, it takes an extremely talented writer to pull this off, and to do it well is amazing – thus my favorite read of the year. To me, this accomplishment alone was worth the price of admission. I actually read through 3 of the conversations before I even realized it. That’s how natural the dialogue was to my ear and how much I was sucked in to their stories.
And talk about the stories! I don’t want to discount the stories themselves, which were inventive, clever and extremely engaging, just because the writing style was so impressive to me. But it’s nearly impossible to talk about any of the conversations themselves in a review like this without spoiling them. I’ll just say that each story is a fast-paced gem that works well alone and, as a whole, the collection is smart, funny, political, fantastic, erotic and more. You don't want to miss it. This definitely ain’t your grandma’s Grimm stories. I promise you. Please, do yourself a favor. Take a few minutes and try the sample and listen in on some juicy talk.
