Kat has never been a morning person, but waking up in a Vegas hospital to discover she's been married, widowed, and pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building along with a gorgeous amnesic vampire with the unlikely name of Jonny B. Good pretty much cements her hatred of mornings. In fact, having no memory of any of these events almost seems like a blessing.
While waiting to be cleared for possible involvement in the destruction of the hotel she'd been pulled from, Kat agrees to try to use her newly discovered psychic ability to help hunky detective Damian Johnson look into the mysterious events surrounding his comatose ex-partner.
With lycan youths turning up dead, terrifying visions from Damian's coma-stricken partner, horrific creatures attempting to grab her in the night, and dealing with Jonny's bizarre obsession with the Food Network, Kat just hopes she survives long enough to say goodbye to Las Vegas.
K.L. Phelps never wanted to be a cop, fireman or baseball player. He fell in love with books at a very early age and (aside from the summer of 1977 when he wanted to be Luke Skywalker) he never wanted to be anything other than a writer. Somehow he took a left when he should have gone right (or write) and spent 17+ years as an oncology nurse. He is now back to pursuing this childhood dream. Thriller, suspense, mysteries, paranormal, humor/comedy, there are very few genres that don't interest him and he intends to take a crack at them all.
So much happened in Vegas that it took two books to tell! I enjoyed reading about what happened after... and having been to Vegas, it was easy to picture where this was happening. Though, Phelps makes these hotels seem much closer to each other than they are!! I'm looking forward to reading #6.
Awesome! Waking up in hospital is never a good beginning to the day but being told that you have married and been widowed with no recollection of the events is worse. To top it off you are suddenly thrust into a world that you had never envisaged. A talent for talking to comatose patients and an investigation that entails the deaths of lycan. What is causing the deaths and why? See Kat struggle to cope with all the changes occurring in her life. A great read with the rest of the answers as to "what actually happened in Vegas ". Terrific
I love this series and it was fun to have some holes filled in. Even though I figured out the who pretty early,it is such a fun read. I love the character Johnny and the wsy he and Kat play off of each other so well. Looking forward to reading the next book and getting back to snappy and the rest of the gang. Enjoy
Wow non stop - action, fleeing, fighting and eating! Kat and Jonny plus Damian ...brilliant. Lycans and vampires equal. excitement. Las Vegas seems non stop everything!! Highly recommend this book and q
When I finished the first of this two part story I was afraid I would be letdown by the second part. But it came through, even had an unexpected twist. Good job.
Loved how these two books explained what happened in Vegas for Kat....and her companions. Love this series....reading the next one now....I only hope K.L. Phelps comes out with a new one before I’m done or I’ll be crying!!! Happy Reading :)
2.5 stars - So I read What Happened in Vegas and Waking Up in Vegas, which were the backstory for Mind If I Come In. Now my curiosity is satisfied. I don't know that I will read any of the other books since drinking lots of diet coke and eating seems to be intended as her endearing quirks and the mysteries are dragged out too much - enough for the reader to figure it out. These were okay and the series should have started with Waking up in Vegas instead of Mind if I Come in - leaving the final bit of mystery for a while What Happened in Vegas could have been still been book 4 or 5.
After reading the 3rd book in the series free on Bookbub, I was hooked and just finished this 5th one after a three day reading fest. Great storyline throughout, only two more books to go! Only one criticism the word “snickered” must have been used over a hundred times in this book and I found it very annoying. The same with the phrase ‘almost peed my pants” and she/he “snorted”. Apart from that, highly recommend ☺️
This is once again a look back at the beginning of the creation of Kat Parker, it is supposed to be book 5 but I would read it as book 1. Much better start for the back story, leaving lots of mystery in the wings but better fleshing out of existing characters. Fun characters.
I am glad Ms. Phelps explains part? all? of Kat Parker 's time in Vegas and her getting together with Jonny. I hate not understanding why, how something happened. I enjoyed all her little twists and turns..Fun
I love all of the books in this series. Phelps keeps you interested trying to figure out what Kat will do next. Kat manages to get herself in to more messed than a two year old.
While I wasn’t enamored with book 4, this book went right back to the easy humor, fun, excitement, and action of the first three books (But you really must read book 4, to Know). I loved and can hardly wait for book 6!
This book was get another great read ,it cleared everything up that happened in Vegas.Highly recommend this series to anyone, can't wait for the next book.
These books are action packed and funny. Like Indiana Jones, Kat and her group of friends are highly entertaining and action packed. Eagerly anticipate each new book.
This is nice follow-up book with the same well-developed characters involved in still more plot twists to keep you entertained. No sex, but a fair amount of violence.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series. Laugh out loud situations with unique characters and wild situations! Fun to have this back story fill in the holes from the earlier books.
I had read the first 3 Kat Parker books always wondering what happened in Vegas. Now I know! I just finished What Happened in Vegas & Waking Up in Vegas back to back. Phenomenal!! They both explain soooooo much. Ups, downs, twist, turns, all the intrigue & yet there is humor, too. Now I have the back stories of the most important men in Kat's life - Andrew Parker, Damian, & Jonny B. Good. I also understand why Kat & Jonny can never ever be together. That was a complete surprise. I out & out chuckled over Kat's obsession with food & Diet Coke. I can't wait to see where K.L. Phelps takes us next! In the mean time, I'm going back & rereading the first 3 books. I miss Snappy!
So much happens in this installment! Some answers were given but new questions arose . Who or what is behind all the strange happenings? Why is Jonny so bound to her? (Spoiler:) why did everyone in Vegas lose track of an entire weekend, and what happened during those 3 days?
I love Kat, and her connections with Damien, Jonny and others are great.
SO much to anticipate in the next book.
I love the concept of a "dark Vegas" full of supernatural beings. Some how it seems totally appropriate. If you like supernatural storylines with good plotting and lots of humor you should give this series a try.
I actually feel bad writing this because I've lived the series until now. This book was really repetitive. The comedic parts were stale. Kat snorting soda, her appetite, eating her food and others without being aware of it an she came across not as cute like before but fairly stupid. Felt lazy and scenes were almost identical throughout this book and punchlines were from previous books. I ended up skimming this one when I've read every word of the others and mostly because I've read it before sometimes word for word.
Wow! Kat learns a new skill, has a new bff and helps solve a few mysteries in this volume of her story. Now I am going BACK to book 1 to start over with all the information and I will like it better this time around.
Nice to get the backstory on how Kat got her start in unplanned chaos making where Johnny and Damien got there start well plotted cool characters great book!
