Oh Viper... what am I gonna do with my boy Viper? LOL! In all seriousness, I really thought since the first book, Cement Heart, was so emotional and heavy that this book would be more light and fluffy. More like the Cranberry series. I couldn't have been more wrong. This conclusion of Viper's story was full of emotions, angst, and heartache. There was a moment or two that had me in tears, but I loved the way it ended!

Viper is my favorite kind of hero. A little funny, a little cocky, and a lot damaged. Even though Viper had his challenges and issues in this book, I felt he had so much growth. I understood why he did the things he did and where he was coming from, even if I didn't like the choices he made at times. I also loved Michelle. She is exactly the type of girl Viper needs. She gave him space when he needed it, she was strong for the both of them, and she has a huge heart. Another shout out to Gam as my favorite character in the book. I just adore this series and can't wait to listen to Andy's book! It will certainly be my next audio book!

“He got on the plane for that road trip as one man, but came back as someone totally different.”

Ahhh, I loved this book so much! First, I have to say that Cement Heart is absolutely one of my favorite sports romances ever. It’s a true hidden gem, who btw now has a brand new super gorgeous cover. Anyway, Wild Heart is the continuation of Cement Heart, so this is definitely not a standalone. Because this is not a standalone and because you have to read Cement Heart first, and Cement Heart is a little mysterious as to who Viper’s leading lady is, you will have to forgive me for being super vague since I don’t want to spoil anyone of a great story! But trust me, this is a good one.

Lawrence Finkle aka Viper, hot hockey player extraordinaire for the Minnesota Wild and former manwhore, is one of my favorite heroes ever. He’s such a complex character, so loving but so brooding, so alpha but so sensitive. He’s an angst lover's dream, hence why I love him so much. If you’ve read the Cranberry Inn books, which I also love, you know Viper as Brody’s teammate and good friend. So, if you’ve read Cement Heart, you know it’s a beautiful book and an amazing ride, and that the road to Viper’s and the heroine’s relationship was hard and totally unexpected. Wild Heart takes over around a year after Cement Heart ends.

So, what happens in Wild Heart? Oh, so much happens in Wild Heart, I wish I could tell you all about it! Wild Heart is another amazing emotional roller coaster ride, not going to lie, at times is totally infuriating and frustrating and you just want to shake Viper and wake him up from the daze he’s in. So, there’s heartbreaks and situations that force them apart and Viper lets his insecurities get the best of him. He messes up, badly. But then he redeems himself. In the best way. It’s so hard to explain. I experienced all sorts of emotions reading this one. But I trusted that Beth would do right by this couple, and she did. Her writing is flawless and gorgeous, the pacing of the book perfect. The heroine is also one of my favorites, if you’ve read Cement Heart you know she’s as strong as they come, she’s simply amazing. She’s perfect for Viper and I love them together so so much.

I know I have been super vague, but trust me it’s better this way. This is one book series you need to experience for yourself. Oh, and if you love Brody and Kacie, they’re very present here. The ending is beautiful and the epilogue is perfection. And you know how I love my epilogues! So, this is so worth it and I absolutely recommend this book and this entire series!!!

“Fate didn’t ask permission and she didn’t give you warnings, but she had a way of balancing your life when you didn’t even know it needed to be balanced, and calming even the wildest of hearts.”

oh Viper.. you are lucky I loved you so much from the first book, otherwise I don't think I would have been able to forgive your douchebaggery of EPIC proportions in this book.

Really enjoyed this follow-up to Cement Heart!

This is definitely one of those stories that you hate to love.

Ehemann really put our boy Viper through the wringer in his books. If you thought Cement Heart was heart-wrenching, just wait until you pick up this installment! I was all prepared for the hearts and flowers ending when Ehemann totally slapped me with the feels.

For Viper, hockey equals life. He doesn't claim his family, besides his hoot of a grandmother, so his team and the sport are his entire world. He pours his heart and soul into everything hockey-related so when he gets injured, it is literally the end of his world.

And that leads me back to the very first sentence of this review, this is definitely one of those stories that you hate to love. You already should have read the first book where Viper falls head over heels in love with Michelle and her children. Well, Viper royally screws up in this installment making every reader question whether or not he is worthy of our love. While it is heartbreaking that his career is possibly over, he still has a wonderful woman and terrific kids that adore him. However, Viper didn't see it that way. His injury makes him irritable and depressed. He lashes out at Michelle constantly and ignores the children. What a jerk! The breaking point, for Michelle and most readers, was his reaction to a certain event that was supposed to be joyful. I love Viper, but he really did make a mess of things.

Viper finds himself alone and yearning to go back to the happy family he abandoned. With the help of Brody and Grams, Viper pulls himself together and fights for what he wants. Not that he deserves it after all the damage he caused, but whatev.

Once again, Beth Ehemann proves me wrong and shows us that she is a well-rounded author. The Cranberry Inn series was so cheerful and heartwarming while Viper's Heart has been an emotional rollercoaster. I guess with Beth you just never know what you're gonna get!

I get to start Andy's book soon - Even the Score - and I am wondering what direction she will take. Will it be angsty goodness or sickly sweet? All I know is that I am ready to jump into it.

5 STARS!

I'm sorry, my dear Viper, I'm afraid I've fallen out of love with you. You were too much of a selfish, grumpy jerk for my liking, and despite all the laughs you managed to raise out of me, and the emotions you were able to stir inside of me, I need to move on from you.

What I'm still madly in love with, though, is Beth Ehemann's writing and her talent to create those beautifully emotional stories that still have this unique lightheartedness to them.

“Fate didn’t ask permission and she didn’t give you warnings, but she had a way of balancing your life when you didn’t even know it needed to be balanced, and calming even the wildest of hearts.”

4.5 stars

Emotional, heartbreaking, sweet, romantic, and absolutely beautiful, this book is the continuation of Viper’s story from Cement Heart and I absolutely loved it!

Definitely not to be read as a standalone, this book picks up approximately 1 year after the end of Cement Heart, where we saw a huge shift in Viper’s life as he dealt with a devastating loss and found and fell in love with the woman of his dreams. Previously the NHL’s biggest manwhore, I loved watching the huge changes he underwent in that book, and this book continues on from that, showing me just what I wanted to see from the end of the last book – Viper and his girl happy, committed and madly in love.

Viper is living a life he never dreamed he would want, let alone have, and he is happy in a way he never knew he could be. But when life throws him an expected curveball, everything that he thought he was disappears. It’s the start of a spiral for him as he loses whatever control he thought he had, and is left questioning everything.

“He got on the plane for that road trip as one man, but came back as someone totally different.”

I won’t want to spoil anything for those who haven’t read Cement Heart so just a warning that this review is going to be purposely vague.

Viper is such a wonderful hero. Arrogant, funny charming and sexy as all hell, but he’s an absolute sweetheart who loves deeply. After all that he went through in Cement Heart, my heart broke for him watching him go through even more heartache, but his journey is beautifully written

“I don’t know who I am anymore and I’m trying to figure it the fuck out the best way I know how.”

He has his flaws, and though his supreme assholery had me wanting to smack him, seeing his torment and then watching him start to understand and acknowledge the consequences of his actions was really beautifully written.

“No man ever lay on his death bed pissed off that he’d apologized too many times throughout his life, but plenty wish they’d apologized more.”

And as a romance lover, watching him fight like hell to claim back his life was swoony perfection!

And his heroine… well, I adore her! Compassionate and loving, she is incredibly strong, and I thought the way she handled everything was amazing. Her love for Viper comes through so strongly, as does her unwavering support him, but she’s definitely not a doormat, and I thought she provided the perfect balance for him.

Fans of the Cranberry Inn series (which introduce Viper as a character) will be thrilled to know that there is lots of Brody and Kacie in the book, and I loved seeing not only where they are now as a family, but also watching them interact with Viper and his girl as they help them through their hard time. And of course Viper’s grandmother is still a big part of his life, and I thought every moment with her was just gold!

This is such a gorgeous story. Cement Heart showed us Viper getting his girl, this is the story of him keeping her. It was definitely heartbreaking at times, but the emotion was beautifully written and I felt every moment. And it was worth every bit of pain for the swoony happy ending, and double epilogue that finished off Viper’s story perfectly.

I loved it – 4.5 stars.

Lawrence "Viper" Finkle is one of my absolute favorite leading men. There's nothing I love more than a brooding, reluctant hero. The road for Michelle and Viper was an unconventional, unexpected one rife with heartbreaking emotions and unpredictable romance all the way through Cement Heart. Viper is moody and stubborn and sarcastic. He has soft spots, but he really never sees himself the way everyone else does... the way I do. He's beautiful and protective, fiercely loyal, generous and capable of so much love. He just doesn't believe it.

Enter Wild Heart...

Whoa. This sequel made Cement Heart feel like a bedtime story. This sequel is infuriating, it's angsty, it's maddening. This is the story of Viper's precarious house of cards crashing down around him. It's a series of unfortunate events all culminating into Viper's undoing. It's the heartbreaking path of destruction left by Viper's feelings of confusion, frustration and insecurities. It's an emotionally tumultuous wreck.

And I loved every bit of it.

I love a story where a guy screws up, *almost* to the point of no return. And Viper does just that. He's a mess. He screws up big in this book and the course of events that unfolds is deliciously maddening, wholly emotional, and quintessentially Viper.

I love the way this author crafts a story. I love Ehemann's writing style... clean, polished, believable, so perfectly paced. Beth Ehemann delivers a punch to the feels with Wild Heart, an unforgettable grovel novel that hit me with a barrage of emotions and made me love these characters more than ever before.

This is one of my favorite series and Wild Heart is the perfect edition. A must read!

Lawrence. Lawrence. Lawrence.

I wanted to alternate between smacking the crap out of this delicious man and kneeing him in the junk—hard. Viper definitely had moments of epic dumb ass status. They were so often, I had to remind myself, Viper will be Viper and he’s never been known to take the easy way.

With that in mind, Wild Heart is about Lawrence Finkle growing the f*ck up, and it goes without saying, he doesn't go willingly. Nope, as we've learned in Cement Heart, when the going gets tough, Viper tends to make an undeniable complete and utter mess of his life. Repeatedly. My heart broke witnessing his steadfast determination to venture down the hard road, refusing love and friendship at every turn. And although, I knew in the end all would be right in both mine and his worlds (no matter the outcome), I couldn't help but want to scream at him to get his sh*t together before he loses everything most precious to him. It was a damn fine line between love and hate (not that I could ever hate this man, but you get my drift). Even though deep down, I might have enjoyed a sweet book full of love and good times, I knew that Lawrence Finkle had to go through these life altering and sometimes difficult changes in order to truly grow and give all of himself to Michelle.

Speaking of Michelle, you will adore her! The patience she had, I swear this woman is a saint. I'm not sure I could put up with half of what she had to. Her strength, patience, and love endeared me even more to her character. I walked away thinking, Beth couldn't have picked a better woman for Viper. Michelle balanced out all of his rougher edges with her softer ones, while still holding her own.

I absolutely FLOVED this book and I’m so proud of Beth for staying so true to Viper’s character. She didn’t take the uncomplicated route, which I’m sure would have been much easier for her. Hell, I’m sure it would have even been more favorable amongst fans. Instead, she allowed Viper to tell us his story—his complete story. Complications and all. Unbeknownst to Viper, he is so much more than the stereotypes he tries so hard to see past.

Lawrence Finkle proves why he is, hands down, one of my favorite book boyfriends of all time.

I've loved Lawrence Finkle aka Viper, from the very first time he was mentioned in the Cranberry Inn books. I had to wait a long time for his book Cement Heart, which was honestly a bit of a surprise for me. I never thought he would end up with Michelle.

Michelle definitely deserved her HEA. I was shocked and crushed reading what she had to go through to end up with Viper in the first place. And Viper definitely deserved her. Michelle calmed him and tamed the manwhore in him. He turned out to be an amazing stand-in father. And a wonderful and supportive boyfriend. I was truly amazed to see his transformation into a family man. Of course, he wouldn't be Viper without eventually fucking it up. And the way to get his head back together was so typically Viper. I was silently shaking my head.

I'm incredibly thankful for the opportunity to catch up with Brody and Kacie and the kids some more.

All in all it was a wonderful and solid performance by Beth Ehemann. Her characters so far have always been outstanding, beautifully developed and utterly interesting. I've never been disappointed with a Beth Ehemann book yet.

After reading Cement Heart I was wrecked and I am happy to say that after reading this second book in Viper & Michelle's story I am now doing okay :)

However, I got so damn emotional reading this book! We pick up where Cement Heart left off, Viper & Michelle are all loved up, the kids Matthew & Maura adore him and he very obviously loves them right back. Viper has never been more settled and happy in his life. It is the beginning of a new hockey season and he has never felt better. Until everything starts to fall apart and it's not just one aspect of his life - it happens with all the things he loves - hockey, Gam, Michelle & the kids.

It all becomes just too much and instead of being 'present' he takes up residence inside his own head and pretty much goes into hibernation. If he hides from all of his problems the he won't have to take any responsibility right? He has so many people in his life that love and care for him, yet he seems determined to push everyone away and the further he pushes them, the more alone he feels. The only person who can help Viper is himself. He is going to have to dig deep if he wants to see daylight again and when he does will it be too late to make amends and get back to what truly is the most important thing in life?

I got so mad with Viper at times reading this book but I also got where he was coming from, he was dealing with things he hadn't experienced before and did so the only way he knew how. There was a lot of self reflection and although it was hard on the people he hurt & upset, it was something he had to work through on his own - with a little kick up the arse from Kacie!

There were lots of really sweet parts to this story too, Gam stole the show with her sassy mouth, the kids were gorgeous and I loved their interactions with Viper. My lover Brody Murphy made quite a few appearances and the woman he cheated on me with, his wife Kacie was pretty incredible too. Needless to say, I loved this!

This is the sequel to Viper's story that started in Cement Heart and of course you get a lot of appearances from their BFF's from the previous Cranberry Inn series - which I always love a big fun group of family and friends! These books are sweet and sad, but cozy and warm!! Perfect for this time of year!! Add in that small side of Gram, hockey and male banter and you have a little swoon fest!

Really looking forward to the next story and wrapping it all up with the last book, a christmas Novella! Definitely recommend this whole series!

Faulty Love is the best love

Perfection isn't finding the perfect character who can do no wrong, perfection is finding the right characters who share and makeup for each others wrongs. Last book was all about the tears, this time there was much to feel utterly flabbergasted about.

Viper is his own worst enemy.

His lady is strong but probably just as stubborn as he is whether people realize it or not.

This book highlights that is never one person who makes or breaks a relationship, but it is the willingness of both to strive towards success together. It plays both of their faults, and I think that is something more romance books need. Or maybe I should he paying attention go both sides of the story more often.

This book is a game changer.

Viper's perfect life is starting to unravel. Hockey has always been the center of his life and the thought of being sidelined throws him off balance. He has been with Michelle and her kids for a year. All of a sudden he is dealing with stress and situations affecting him in various ways. And when Viper is unhappy, he tends to close himself off.

Michelle has been taking care of everyone. She's compassionate, caring, and sweet. But she has been through difficult times already, and now dealing with Viper's moods and behavior along with all of her duties is frustrating and disappointing to her.

When things are good, they are great together. But when things go wrong, Viper does not deal effectively and tends to withdraw. And it is a recipe for disaster. He is best at avoiding or running, and sometimes his pride or temper get in his way. He acts impulsively and gets stuck in his own head and it is hard to reach him. He really can be his own worst enemy.

He is stubborn, angry, lost, and getting deeper into his own darkness. Viper has issues coming to terms with changes in his life and figuring out how to deal with them. His only chance is finding his inner need to fight back, but then he will still have a fight on his hands to get back all that he has put at risk. Or he could just take the easy way and revert back to his old ways and uncomplicated life. But eventually hard decisions will have to be made.

And Michelle has already been put through so much. My heart broke for her as she tried to be strong and independent while handling everything in her own emotional state. I could not help but admire her...and hope that Viper would get his act together.

Viper...Viper...Viper...Lawrence Finkle...sigh...I have always loved the guy and was so proud of him in Cement Heart. He had always been kind of obnoxious, unfiltered, and a bit wild, but then we saw a deeper vulnerable, loving, and protective to side to him. But I have to admit that in this one, the man really pissed me off, frustrated me, disappointed me, and made me want to smack sense into him! But he also made me laugh, cry, and swoon. He can be the sweetest guy or the biggest bonehead. He does not do anything half way and elicits strong emotions.

Thankfully old reasonable friends are back like Brody, Kacie, Andy, and Gam to help try to knock sense into his hard head and add some comic relief. There were a few other side characters adding a bit more drama as well as a quirky new character, Sherman, that had me smiling during his sage advice. Viper's Gam is the coolest, most outspoken Grandma ever! I loved Viper's relationship with her, his brotherly bond with his team mates, and how he interacted with the kids.

This one definitely took me on a roller coaster of emotions. It was a comfy read due to the characters that I have come to love and Beth's engaging writing style, but it was also an emotional one. It was funny, aggravating, heartbreaking, heartfelt, and romantic. I was totally sucked in and feeling all of it.

Life is not always easy, and often times gets too real and messy. But it is how people come through these challenges that shows what they are made of. It met my high expectations that have been set by previous installments in these series. I am looking forward to Andy's book Even the Score. I just cannot get enough of this group and Beth's writing.

***4.5 Hearts

Wild Heart is the second book in the Viper's Heart Duet. I loved Cement Heart and so happy that there was going to be more to Viper and Michelle's story! It was never an easy road for these two but they found each other. But, can they manage to keep each other?

Viper and Michelle have been dating for the last year. They have finally found the balance they were looking for which isn't easy with two little ones, a home, and a hockey career going full speed. But, then life gets turned upside down with life-changing injuries and they once again need to figure out how to get through this thing called life. Viper is used to navigating his own life but now he has a family to think about and he just feels overwhelmed. He doesn't know what to do when he can't control what is going on around him.

Viper and Michelle's relationship is tested. Viper is lost. Michelle is concerned about their future. She loves Viper and she knows he loves her but doesn't know if it's enough. He is going through one of the toughest times in his life and feels that the hits keep coming. Because of this, he becomes moody, distant, and pretty much an all around asshole. He needs to step up but doesn't know how. Can he figure out what he needs to do to save his family before it's too late?

Not going lie...I wanted to smack the shit out of Viper for a lot of the book. At the same time, I had to remember that he was an ass but deep down I loved him. That doesn't mean that I always had to like him. He has his ways but he is also protective, sexy, funny, and could be a big softie. Just remember that while reading the book and you will be okay. Now, for Michelle...that woman seriously kicked ass. She is strong, determined, and an amazing mother. She doesn't want to give up but she knows that if she did that she would be just fine. Then there is Gam. I want a Gam!! She is one badass Grandma and isn't afraid to tell you how it is! I love her. Oh...can't forget the kids. They are so freaking cute!

Overall...it's a great book about love, family, heartbreak and figuring out what you want your future to hold.

I just heard about this today so I was so excited to get it; I had to go back and re-read the whole series over.
I loved Viper; but sheeew did I wanna kick him in the face a few times in this one.
This one starts out just as the other left off. Viper and Michelle are happy; the kids are happy and Viper is being the best dad/boyfriend ever while occasionally on the road. He took to family life quick and I loved seeing that. HOWEVER; things on their plates quickly get the better of them.
I felt bad for MIchelle because Gam got injured (in the most hilarious way) but MIchelle had been doing everything she could to be there for Gam; support Viper and still be a full time mommy to two little ones. I can imagine how overwhelmed she was. Then, throw Viper getting injured and shutting her out; it was all just too much for her, she deserved so much better even though she didn't complain at all... She should have, I would have knocked Viper out for treating me that way.
A good chunk of the story, I spent so mad at him.
Don't get me wrong; he didn't cheat or anything but you know how they say some things you can apologize for but once they're said, they can't be forgotten... Even though, Michelle forgave him, I can't imagine how hard it would be to forget them.
I hated that the kids had to deal with Viper leaving and not having him around, even though they took it well; for kids who losttheir daddy and then their second one; as a mother, it was crappy to think about and I felt heartbroken for all of them. I was glad when he redeemed himself but I"m still holding a grudge lol

Overall though it was such a good story and I really can't wait to read about Andy next month... I swear if anyone deserves some happiness, it's Andy!

Beth Ehemann has done it again. I am a bit of a picky reader and can be hard to please, and Ehemann has written some of my favorite books so she really had her work cut out for her. She exceeded my very high expectations.

Reading Wild Heart was effortless. It flowed so well and I was drawn in right from the beginning. I love Viper’s character so I was really excited to get even more of him. Just like her other books, the characters, dialogue, and story all feel organic. Nothing ever feels forced or unnatural and it really serves to draw you entirely into the story.

Michelle is a very likeable character and your heart can’t help but go out to her for all that she’s been through. I loved getting to know her even more and watching their relationship evolve.

I felt a full range of emotions throughout the entirety of this book and read the last page with my heart full. I’m so pleased with this book and can’t wait to read her next one. Do yourself a huge favor and read Beth Ehemann if you haven’t already. She will steal your heart every single time.

Viper's story got a sequel and I'm so glad because I needed to read more about him.
This novel was really beautiful and at times so honest you feel your heart breaking sentence after sentence.

I cannot not to say thank you to Beth Ehemann because she gave these characters the journey they deserve.

When hard times come is so much easier to run away, go back to your safe places and old habits and hiding from your loved ones than stay and fight for what gives you happiness and makes your life complete.
And that's what Viper does after an unpleasant and unfortunate event threats to forever change life as he knows it.

I loved Michelle so much,I envy her strength to never give up and to defend her family and feelings even when her lover is weird and acted so out of character.

This book was about Viper finding his way and a new perspective on life.
I understand that everybody has one or several issues to cope with, but I had really trouble with Viper's problem. Overall I loved Michelle and all the Cameos of people we got to know in Cranberry Inn Series. But Viper was in many ways immature. And I did not like it.

The Duet was an okay duet. I somehow didn't click with the storyline.

I have written and erased this review about 4 times already. I'm having a hard time getting my thoughts together on this one. So, I am just going to keep it really simple.

I really liked it, but didn't quite love it.
I think it was missing a little bit of Beth Ehemann magic- especially in the ending where I needed it to fully buy into the ending.

Great characters.
Easy reading.
Raw, real and angsty.

Looking forward to Andy's book!

I absolutely loved Cement Heart and Wild Heart exceeded my expectations. I honestly didn't think that Vipers second book had a chance of tipping the first and it did; completing his story exactly as it needed to be completed. This book was a 4.5 star read for me and I would highly highly recommend Viper's Heart Duet and the Cranberry Inn Series to anyone who is looking for a hearty book that addresses real life struggles and triumphs while also making you laugh and smile while reading. It's the reason why Beth Ehemann is one of my all time favorite authors!

The reader left Viper in Cement Heart just when his and Michelle's relationship was on solid ground and Wild Heart opens up as they continue to find their way in their new family dynamic.

Viper is faced with a blast from his past in the most unlikely of places and then his entire world is rocked from the inside out which makes him question everything...even his relationship with Michelle. While he pulls farther and farther away Michelle yearns to help him and have him closer because when she reveals her secret, she expects happiness where she gets anything else but.

Watching Viper struggle to find himself and decide where he wants to be in his life at the same time the Michelle is deciding how to live without the man she loves again will have you going though many different emotions while reading, each one absolutely worth it and having you turn the page over and over to find out what happens next.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this series but it is a MUST READ!!

Things are going good in his life. Viper has his woman, Michelle, her kids love him, he has his friends and he has hockey. He lives and breathes hockey so when that is taken from him with an injury his world is thrown in doubt and he is lost. His action will risk everything and everyone. He will cause a riff between him and Michelle and in doing so opening a door for someone else.

Michelle is destroyed by his actions and while she loves him she will not be a doormat. When a sexy new single dad moves across the street she gets butterflies. Will Viper get his head out of his ass or will he lose it all....his woman, her kids....his kid?

I liked this book. Not as much as the other but it was still 3.5 stars for me. I can not wait to read Andy's story!

I have loved Viper since I first got to meet him in Brody and Kacie's books. Once Viper loves somebody, he loves them hard and claims them as his forever. That's what happens with Michelle, but of course Viper is stubborn and it takes him a little while to realize what he has. Viper is hockey or so that is what he thinks, but he has to reevaluate his life and what is truly important to him before he loses it.

Such an emotional follow up to Viper's story. Like the first installment, I spent most of this one wanting to punch Viper. Michelle is one of my favorite heroines and romance needs more strong women like her. I especially loved seeing Gram and all the Cranberry favorites. Can't wait for Andy's book. This connected series is such a hidden gem!
