Shiloh Everest hated Paisley Lowe, plain and simple. Of course, who could blame her? Paisley had been the one who read Shiloh's private texts in front of the whole cafeteria and forced her out of the closet. When Shiloh left for New York with her three best friends, she thought she had escaped Paisley. The only problem is, Paisley is back. Shiloh's sworn enemy shows up on their doorstep. But she's different. Completely different.
"What if you love something and it doesn't come back? What do you do then?" "No one has all the answers" Ryland said truthfully. "You've just got to hope that the universe knows what it's doing"
This is officially the cutest, most heart warming and at the same time heartbreaking thing I had ever had the pleasure of reading
I am not going to get into too much detail, only that I am glad this book did not stay a fanfiction and got published. It made me laugh, and cry, and squeal, and fangirl, and scream, and rage, and sympathize and most of all it made me understand that love always comes as a grand surprise, and you just have to hope that the universe knows what it's doing, to refer to the quote I used.
The characters were all absolutely adorable and the girls squad was everything I lived for. Shiloh and Paisley were such a lovable couple, mostly becase both were layered, flawed and richly spun characters, that matched perfectly with the bittersweet, sweet in the end, pace of this wonderful tale. Even after I finished this book, I can still smell daisies, a sunny day, and paint, and I can still feel brave even in the worst days.
The writing was so casual that it felt like everything happened in front of my eyes, and it was so warm and fluffy that made me smile all day long when I was picking this up. Paisley's story brought infinite tears and ache, because she is a person that went through so much, and finally found happiness and the power to leave the past behind. The representation of TBI (traumatic brain injury) and PTSD was also great and very careful.
The plot was sometimes slow and sometimes quick, and it changed with the right amount of time. It absorbed the reader into the book and familiarized them with the characters and everything that was going on. Another thing I loved was the songs mentioned in this book. I listened to them all and enjoyed them really much. They matched the cute, romantic and sunny, despite the darkness, mood of the entire story.
It gave me uncountable hope and kept me safe, making me feel content, and I absolutely love reading fluffy reads for the exact reason.
Basically, if you want to read a tale about girl love, finding one's self, dealing with trauma and abuse and most of all, being strong to face everything with the right people next to you, this book is your ideal read ♥
I especially recommend reading it during a rainy day with a cup of hot chocolate :)
Keep believing in yourselves and loving, whether it's family, friends or lovers. Our world needs a true spark and love can thankfully provide that ♥ And by the way, Happy Women Equality Day
This book is just great, much much much better than other books that have been published by known authors. I didn't actually read THIS version of Yellow, I read the original work, a fanfiction on Camren on Wattpad and I have to say that this is definitely one of the best books I have read in a long time. I just hope the author, Lena, continues writing such marvelous stories.
There's a lot of questionable things on this book that's why I couldn't give this more than 3. And also It's kinda annoying when the author preferred someone as the green eyed girl, the tall girl, the dark haired girl, the light haired girl etc it's confusing sometimes. The book has a lot of potential but I think the author needs to research some more. It's a bit dark but it has a cute side. (Abuse, murder, prison mental illness) I was about to stop reading this but then got curious and the last thing I know I couldn't stop reading this. It will get you hooked.
I really feel bad for Paisey. She've been through a lot and I mean a lot!!
Yellow by Lena Nottingham is the first book in a trilogy about the college life of Shiloh Everest after she was outed by Paisley Lowe in front of the entire high school cafeteria. After moving into an apartment in New York with her three best friends, Shiloh gets an unexpected visitor. Paisley Lowe is standing in the threshold of their home, but she seems very different. This first book shows the reader the growth of the relationship between Shiloh and Paisley and why Paisley has changed so much.
I enjoyed this book because the plot is unique to its genre, which is romance-mystery. It is innocent, heartwarming, and suspenseful all at once. Even though, Paisley has obviously been through a traumatic experience to get to the state that she is in, it is not a highly predictable. In addition, it is not immediately known what is wrong with Paisley as seen by her first interactions with the girls. ““Paisley?" Leah spoke again, giving the girls a nod to try and tell them she could handle this. The shorter girl walked over to Paisley, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Why do you need a bed? Where'd you come from?""My house," Paisley shrugged. She seemed completely oblivious to the fact that the other girls in the room all had been at the receiving end of her reign of terror in high school. "Do you have a bed? I need one of those.”” This passage is significant because it is not only one of the first interactions that Paisley has with the girls, but it is the first sign that there is something off with her considering that her house is all the way in Miami. Another aspect I enjoyed about the plot was that it was not only about the relationship between Shiloh and Paisley, but about the relationships between all of the girls too. Although, I would have liked to see a bit more of the relationships between Paisley and the other girls because most of their dynamics, in this book, were them ‘babysitting’ Paisley while waiting for Shiloh to come home. The character development between both girls are evident in each chapter which keeps the reader engaged and help the story not seem drawn out.
There are multiple themes in Yellow, but one in particular stands out: respect and be nice to yourself. Many other books have a theme of respecting others, so people can often forget that self care is just as important as taking care of others. There is a passage in the next book in the series that puts it in a very interesting way “"There's flowers in your brain," she explained, using her free hand to lace their fingers together. "You hurt them when you're mean to yourself."” Even though this passage is from the next book, Blue, it is still hinted at in this one, for example when Shiloh tells Paisley to “admire the pretty things from afar”. The flowers analogy also comes from Yellow because in the beginning Paisley picks the flowers that Shiloh’s drawing, and while Shiloh gets angry, she tells her not to kill the “pretty things”. This theme is what made the book so scintillating and unique because in most books like this the disabled character uses the able-bodied character as a crutch, but Shiloh is teaching Paisley how to do certain things and slowly venture out on her own.
To conclude, I would recommend this book to people who enjoy comedy-romance-mystery type novels. This book was engaging and has the ability to draw out emotions from the reader.
I love the author of this books, I found this books through Wattpad as a fan fiction and yet I decided to buy them later on simply to support Lena as a writer. I feel like she has so much potential and I would love to read a lot more from her. This books aren’t even my favorite works from Lena my favorite story of hers is the first one I read called "Weak". That story was so relatable it hurt, the struggle of tying to help someone that is incapable of helping themselves is too real for me. Lena is so good at writing complex and diverse characters and I think that is why I enjoy her works so much because I find that popular or mainstream media doesn’t do that and I appreciate anyone that does.
What an adorably charming story! The author did an excellent job of portraying a victim of TBI and PTSD. With any hope, in the future Paisley will regain most of her memory but her innocence is the sweetest ever. The way her uncle treated her for most of her life also was a good representation of severe child abuse.
This is the cutest story I have ever read. It doesn't even have steamy make outs in it, it's got a bunch of mystery in it and struggle. I love it and no one can tell me otherwise and I'm going to jump right into the next book in the series. This is literally the cutest relationship. It really shows you can love someone with a disorder and a traumatic injury without pitying them or it being "weird". It can just be a cute innocent relationship.
I went into this book hoping for some uplifting queer representation and was sorely let down.
The novel read a lot like a fanfic: "the short girl", "the green eyed girl", which put me off almost to the get go. There is also some disability representation which also killed me as it made the poor girl seem stupid and dependent on others.
It's safe to say that, while it does have a fluffy lesbian relationship, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.
I'm in love with this book every single detail was perfect. I read the majority of this from 1 am til 7 am, I can't tell you the last time i did that. This book made me happy instead of the sad books I usually read this one is so special and I'm so glad I picked it up. Everything about this book is yellow.
It was such a nice and cute story that has a great message and I really like the characters development. I just wanted to keep reading more! I´m definitely gonna buy the other books.
I loveeed this book, it was different and unlike anything I'd ever read. Nothing is cliche about it. It made me cry a million tears haha. 5/5 would recommend
This book...I loved it, but it annoyed me so much!
The story is adorable, the characters are extremely lovable. Overall, it is so cute, and I had a smile on my face the whole way through. I really did enjoy reading it and the way the story made me feel. For that reason, I am giving it a very generous four stars.
BUT. I have never known a book to have so many mistakes in it! Every other page there is either a spelling mistake or a grammar mistake. The book is full of them! And the writing itself is really not good. It's very repetitive, the descriptions especially. Saying "the green eyed girl" four times on one page, practically every single page is a bit much. The author even got a characters name wrong at one point!
It has so much potential. I absolutely love the story, but the whole thing just needs a VERY good edit!
Great book with sensitive topics such as PTSD, amnesia, abuse and mental disorders. Some narrative aspects could be improved but I'm guessing the author was young and it is not as important as the content it transmits.
I keep it close to me, always at sight because of the peace it brings me. Just by looking at it, I feel in a comfort zone not many books have brought me to. I also met my first love through this book, there are just so many memories because of that.
I read the first 63 pages like two years ago. The writing style was horrible and the love interest's whole personality is acting like an actual 2 year old?? So I flip to the end and she's still acting like a 2 year old so she basically fell in love with a 2 year old?? I tried to pick it up again because I thought I didn't give it a fair chance, but honestly I gave it too much of a chance. I don't know how I got through 63 pages of this book. This book is weird af. I do not recommend. If I could give it 0 stars I would.
A great read. It's such a cute, heart warming story but at the same time it's heartbreaking. I love the characters and the author has done a great job at their development and I just felt really satisfied with how the book ended. I'm currently reading the second book, Blue, and already I'm loving it. Honestly a great read and I would recommend anyone who enjoys or is open reading LGBTQ+ books.
I hope the author continues to write because she really is great.
This book was incredible. I had read this book originally as a fan fiction of wattpad and bought it as soon as it came out as a paper back.
If you want a good read with a lot of drama this is for you. This story does have a lot of sad and serious bits. however if you can push past this it is an amazing story.
My favorite fanfic series is now an actual physical book. Yes please. My only problem is Paisley’s name for Shiloh is still the same as the fanfic if you are going to change all the names why not change that?
