A superb book written by midwife Sara Wickham which considers and questions the issues around inducing labour, providing answers to questions that women are repeatedly asking of AIMS. (This book replaces the booklet Induction: Do I Really Need It? previously available from AIMS). The book is divided into three sections, the first about what induction involves. The second part then looks at helping women to decide what is right for them when making decisions about induction. This section is also aimed at health professionals and others providing support to women when guiding them through the decision making process, enabling them to understand the risks and benefits of induction and the full range of alternatives. The final section provides a summary and discussion of research evidence, or lack of it. This section looks at all the possibilities for when medical induction is or may be used, or indeed avoided. The book includes references and an index.
