Dasharajna by Shankar N. Kashyap is the mythological novel based on seventh book of RigVeda as stated in the blurb. Starting from the cover it is well designed with hardcover.

The story is about battle on banks of river Ravi, where the battle tooks place between Sudas & Cayamana. In the whole story I was amazed with author's detailed story telling, Shankar kashyap is so accurate in landscape, timings.

The book comes in 3rd of Harappa series which is fascinating and creates desires to read other novels too. A 306 page of griping historic rewind. This will be a delight for all mythological readers out there. Just pick this novel to dwell in past and look back the majestic.

Thanks to author Dr. Shankar Kashyap for gifting me a review copy of the book.

'Dasharajna - The Battle of Ten Kings' is a wonderful gift from the author to his readers. But let me warn you - its not a book for passing readers. If you adore ancient Indian history and have honest respect towards a writer's extensive background work, then this is a book you must not miss.

One of the most difficult tasks in writing is to deep dive in the realms of history and recreate that in the form of fiction. Dr. Kashyap did exactly that in this book and I must appreciate the publisher for creating such a wonderful cover to match the standard of the contents. The holistic package of the book including cover, formatting, paper quality, fonts etc create a quick attraction to flip through the pages.

The book is bound to be liked by avid readers of both fiction and non-fiction genres (esp mythology/ historic fiction). Very few books in the history of Indian literature present us with a thorough account of pre-Ramayana & Mahabharata saga. Dasharajna did it so keenly - It explores an unaccounted segment of ancient India, a result of 25 years of extensive research by the author. Hats off !!

The other point that sets the book apart is the consistency of the characters. Most of the characters are relevant even in the modern world as well - Their conversations sound authentic; their reactions seem logical and most importantly their presentation is so flawless.

The only area where the book could have scored more is the climax – As a reader, I personally prefer stories with unpredictable twists. I would have liked it more if it was more dramatic to create a better reading experience.

Overall, I rate it to be a 4.7*/5*. Looking forward to read more of such great works from the author in future.

I can never say no to a mythological or a historical book. The warrior inside me does not allow me to do that. Though I am a non-violent person most of the times but a sword is something that I love. Probably this is the reason why I enjoy reading mythology or history novels. While picking up this book, I was confused whether I should read the previous two parts first or should I start with it! But I started reading this.

Harappa is one of the names from history that are hard to forget. This story revolves around this famous city. It is the story of rivalry between King Kasushika and Sage Vashishta. However, this is just the beginning of the story. It then moves to Sudasa who became the king even when his father was alive. Then there is a battle between Sudasa and Kavi who has formed a group of ten kings. This is when the title comes alive- Battle of Ten Kings. It even talks about the Ashwamedha yajna and the expansion of territory using it. I felt that I was reading a more interesting version of my history book and I enjoyed reading it.

The stories are based on some of the incidents that can be found in the Rig Veda. You might have heard about these from your elders. You might have seen something similar on television in mythological shows. However, the author makes sure that the readers do not lose their interest while reading the book.

The plot is good and the narration is beautiful. However, I did not like the cover of the book much. It is a must read for the lovers of Indian mythology. I am looking forward to read the previous books of the Harappa series.

Plot- 4 / 5
Narration- 4.5 / 5
Title- 4 / 5
Cover- 3.5 / 5
Overall- 4 / 5

This is a wonderful piece of work. The name itself has a charm, and the gorgeous hardcover with a beautiful cover lured me to grab the book. The story starts with the age old rivalry between Guru Vashishtha and Guru Vishwamitra. Several episodes ultimately lead to the epic battle between King Sudas and Kavi Caymanna, aided by ten kings. It'll also tell you how  Upaas, the Royal physician got involved in the war. The story is perfect otherwise, I'd just like to add that the end could have been a bit more furnished. The intricate details throughout have put the cherry on the cake. As I proceeded through the story, it enticed me into a historical ambience and I felt as if I'm a part of the story. Historical or mythology based stories have always been my favorite and I'm glad to have added this to my collection. Such a book on the Harappan civilisation is indeed praiseworthy.

Once again, I'd love to say the cover is very nice. The title is good. The blurb is gripping. The language is simple yet artistic. There are many characters in the book which were at times difficult to keep up with, but that in no way did hinder the flow of the book. The book is a product of extensive research and has definitely come up with flying colors.

Cover - 4/5
Title - 4/5
Theme - 4.5/5
Blurb - 3.8/5
Plot - 4.2/5
Storyline - 4.3/5
Language - 4.4/5

I really loved this book. Hope to read more from the author. Well, can't we have a web series on this??

The hard bond cover of the novel gave me a very good impression of the novel. It looks extra ordinary and worth to read. It give me an impression that the cover and binding is so nicely done that i can expect the content to be outstanding. The cover page and color of the cover is brown and dusty that gives me a feeling of past and history, apt as per the genre. The name of the novel is tempting and self explain try. This novel talks about the historical evidence in the RigVeda (including geographical features, place names, people/communities, etc. The language of the novel is very simple and engaging. If you want to know everything about Harappa Series, this is the novel for you!

Book Review by LITEROMA PUBLISHING SERVICES :: ‘Harappa - 3: Battle of Ten Kings’ by Dr. Shankar N Kashyap (3rd Review)

** Thanks to the author for gifting us a review copy of the book. **

‘Harappa 3: Battle of Ten Kings’ provides a fitting end to the Harappa trilogy written by eminent medico Mr. Shankar Kashyap. The platform of the book is set based on the sixth book of Rigveda. It’s a gigantic task in itself to reconstruct the episode of Rigveda in this modern arena. Mr. Kashyap not only succeeded in doing it elegantly but also did it with full justice. He was successful to continue the class he had created in two of his earlier books – ‘The lure of Soma’ and ‘The fall of Shuruppak’ from the same trilogy.

Every chapter of the book showcases the amount of research that had gone into it. The best part of the book is where the episodes of Rigveda are discussed. They are indeed well and truly assimilated by Mr. Kashyap and that’s where a reader will bound to get a feel of a guided tour of the Harappan Civilization and that he is in the hands of one of the best worldly guides available.

The conclusion of the book may appear a bit abrupt to few fiction fanatic readers but one also needs to keep in mind this account is based on Rigveda and opting for an aberration from what is there in Rigveda may not be at the liberty of the author as an exercisable option.

To salute the enormous efforts put forward to come up with this book, Literoma rates it to be a 4.8*/5*. Overall, this third book in the series along with the first two books of the Harappa Trilogy is highly recommended for readers from all walks of life.

Shankar Kashyap has raised the bar for historical writing. There is something more raw and natural in his writing style. .
.
Diving straight into the book, I found myself immersed from the first few pages itself. It tells us more about the battle between the two most powerful sages of rigveda and describes the events that follow! It's always good get acquainted a lil more about our history.
.
.
It pieces together all important historic characters of that time. It has a gripping storyline. The battle between sudasa and kami is something to look forward to, kavi who has 10 Kings at his side!
.
.
I have not read the previous books but this is definitely a stand alone. Overall a pretty decent read. If you are into this genre, then it is a must read!

Great mixture of entertainment and real history.

I have a knack for jumping into a series somewhere in the middle or end, true to form this is the third book in a trilogy. Even though it’s the third book it can easily be a stand alone book. I have to admit, it took me awhile to finish this book. I love history and learning about other cultures and this book did not disappoint in teaching more about the Indian culture. It was sometimes a lot to take in all at once but it was truly fascinating and kept me interested through out the whole book. Shanyar Kashyap has obviously done hours upon hours of research and leg work to make this book happen. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about Indian culture or in history in general. Kashyap created an exciting story that was only enhanced by the mixture of true history.

The story is a tale of Hindu mythology. It starts with a famous incident that occurred between, "Guru Vashishta" and "Guru Vihswamitra" an incident with which we all are quite familiar with. How "King Kasushika" in his ambition to conquer the world came face to face with "Guru Vashishta" and how it shaped the Indian Mythology afterward is summarized in the book.

Author has done an extensive research to draw conclusions from Indian Mythology and it reflects in the detailing of the story.
Author's predisposition towards "attention to detail" has made this an intriguing saga of Battle and Glory.

An epic Indian battle brought to life by Shankar Kashyap

Yet again Shankar Kashyap has combined thorough and detailed research, with his amazing ability to tell a fantastic story and written this the third book in the Harappa trilogy – Dasharajna – Battle of Ten Kings.

Traditional history books are sometimes difficult to get into, however the author has overcome this by using in this Harappa series the character of Upaas, originally a trainee physician, his friends, and wife Lopa. These characters and the people they meet, rich and poor, give the reader a real insight into what it was like to live in this period of history.

Set in the third millennium BCE, the legend of the Battle of Ten Kings can be easily determined to have taken place on what is now the banks of the River Ravi, in what is now the Punjab, Haryana and north-east Pakistan. The traditions, laws and everyday lives are fascinating to read as a wonderful background to the epic story which is the Battle of Ten Kings, a battle between King Sudas and the alliance between ten to twelve kings. The alliance was forged because the descendants of King Yayathi were unhappy that the central part of Bharatha was given by the king to his youngest son Puru, and not to one of his elder brothers.

The years have passed and Upaas now moves with Lopa and their baby Atreya to Ila to become the Royal Physician to King Sudas. Ila is a great capital city known as the centre of the world and stories of Upaas the physician of Harappa are well known, and he and his family are warmly welcomed by Sage Visishta.

However it is soon apparent that there is great unrest, the opposing forces are grouping together, and adding in numbers. There are rumours in Ila that the enemy has sixty thousand soldiers, fired by their rulers united sense of past injustice, intent on winning the battle over King Sudas.

As the opposing forces gather on the banks of the River Parushni (Riva) it is apparent to all that this is going to be no ordinary battle. Then begins this epic war with soldiers and the king fighting bravely, and Upaas tending the wounded. All would seem to be lost until man is taught an important lesson, one they should never forget….

Wow, is all I can say to this amazing story. Whether you are interested in Indian history, enjoy reading about life in times gone by, or are just looking for a totally fascinating story, this is the book for you, and I highly recommend, it.

Being mythology & history lover, when this book offered to me for a review I was quite delighted. The synopsis of this book is something which will catch your attention instantly. Many times in the book I kept wondering how on the earth the author knows so many things. Its a story of an epic Indian battle- Dasrajna-- Battle of ten kings. I really liked the way India mythology is showcased in the book. This is one of best novel which connected with vedic's, mythology & history. Makes you think and research on the vedas and ancient writing.

When I came to end of the book I got to know the hard work involved by author.
Book contains a clever mix of mythology with history. Shankar Kashyap has obviously done a lot of research into the origin of the vedic way of life that is termed Hinduism. Great effort and great book with great amount of effort to detailed descriptions. Must be enough amount of time spend in research of this book.

Exciting twists in story, But the end was quite abrupt. Fabulous art of characterization. The author deserves a standing applaud for his depth of thinking in a very new style. Amazing research and references from Mahabharata, Ramayana & other mythological texts.

I must say its a best book under combination of history and mythology.
Engaging witty gritty mystery. I was
Completely hooked. Would definitely recommend to all the mythology & history lovers.

Dashrajna, The Battle of Ten Kings is third book in series of Harappa books by Shankar Kashyap. Through his extensive research and creativity, the author has written an amazing and engaging book. The book narrates the battle between King Sudas of Puru and The Ten Kings. Picking his characters from Rigveda against backdrop of harappa the author has successfully created an interesting read. The pace of narration is good except at few places. The plot is intriguing. Cover of the book is beautifully designed. The battle description is impressive. if you're fan of historical fiction, grab a copy of this book.
