Sterek

When Derek left Beacon Hills, finally ripping the tether free and remembering how to breathe, how to live again, it was Stiles who came after him. Stiles, who showed up at his door with blazing eyes, looking like he wanted to punch him in the face, but wrapping his arms around him instead, making him grunt in surprise at the raw strength of his embrace.

“You asshole,” Stiles said, slapping him heartily on the back as he extricated himself, his voice rough under his bright smile. “You couldn’t have made yourself harder to find, could you?”

Haunted. This is the word that keeps rattling around in my brain.

This was a heavy read for me. I feel like in this story Derek has grown some and isn’t completely broken but he still feels so much guilt it is there in every move he makes and every thought he has. Overall he is still so very haunted by his past and even though he has moved on and is living he isn’t completely.

This book felt like completion.

Missing puzzle pieces finding their home.

I kind of loved it.

The buildup to the romance is a long time coming but I wasn’t bothered by it. It made it that much better for having to wait.

Yeah, I definitely loved it.

I really enjoyed the first half of the story. Nice character building. The way Derek found the strength to leave Bacon Hills and his struggle to make a new home for himself. The way we are slowly given glimpses into Derek's past and how certain events affected and molded him. The happiness of having Stiles there but the insecurity of not knowing how long he might stay. And then the various activities that kept them busy and brought them closer together. Quite a detailed world building. I admit I didn't understand what the story meant about Stiles killing a guy named Donovan. I imagine it had to be a plot from the TV show so I went with it, not questioning it.

But halfway through I started to get bored. Too much inner monologue and not enough interaction between the characters. Ok, maybe there was interaction but I also wanted romance, not just Derek's puppy dog eyes towards Stiles; his doubts and fears whether Stiles could love him back, or if the teenager was more interested in Danny...and so on and so forth. And the actual reveal was so anti-climatic, it diminished the expectations I had been building as I read along.

I'm glad they got their happily ever after, holidays spent together included. But everything was so sedate, it hardly warranted a reaction.

3.5 stars This was sweet, nice and slow. I like an in-character Derek who seems to have gotten therapy and is more self-aware/well-adjusted to some degree. Poor thing is so unsure but it's heartbreakingly sweet to watch him silently pine over Stiles. Pushing the sap a little at the end but I liked it.

Another wonderful Sterek. Never thought of Derek moving to England. I love how STiles just moves in and makes himself at home all the while Derek is wondering when he will be leaving and trying not to get attached.
