What happens in the mind of an overworked detective with insomnia ? This short story is a deep look into that abyss. Well worth the read. You need to be reading all of Adam's books !
DI Thomas investigates a murder that happened in his own neighborhood. The murder victum's house looks much like his own. Thomas's brain is dull and fuzzy from insomnia.
Croft is great at short stories, making it seem like a full-length book. I was hooked from page one and didn't stop until the end. And... What an ending.
Hmm I really like reading Adam Croft books so was interested to see what this really short novella was about.
It was written well but ended up being just ok. Was expecting a real twist but it mostly ended as I thought it would. Maybe I’m not a novella person. Won’t stop me reading Adam Croft books though as I’ve love the rest so far.
No Rest For The Wicked is a short story that reads like a character study of DI Thomas. The story carries you through a day in the life of a sleep deprived police officer-I won't give anymore than that away...
The suspense builds throughout the story and moves full speed ahead as you approach the end. Adam Croft vividly paints details of the events and at one point, I got a few chills down my spine. I waited a while to read this, but after finishing it, I was immediately looking for more stories from Mr. Croft. I assume, as this is my first time reading any of his fiction, that this short is just a small taste of what his writing has to offer.
A novella with a difference. An over worked detective whose mind is playing tricks due to his lack of sleep is called to a crime just a few houses from where he lives. Oh! Wow! I won't say too much as I hate spoilers. Prepare to be rather shocked. Adam is an excellent writer and I love his books. This one quickly draws you in (the hallmark of a good writer and so needed for a novella) and throws you out at the end . Cleverly thought out and a perfect coffee break read.
Adam Croft has written a psychological thriller of a short story. He creates a complex character in the protagonist. The plot seems to be a detective story at first, but twists and turns to a shocking ending.
This story lacked the spine tingling psychological thrill I was hoping it might have. It was only slighly unnerving towards the end, before that there wasn't very much build-up to the finale. A bit disappointing in my opinion.
The edition I had was updated with a new bold red cover and it was simply riveting. My only problem is that it ended abruptly and I wanted it to go on!
If you are up for a short story then sign up for Adam Crofts fan club and he will make sure you get a copy of No Rest for the Wicked. Adam takes you into the world of a police detective and teaches us about life, living and the pain of being a police officer. It is somewhat twisted but in a good read. What I enjoyed the most is this is a quick read. Read this to get you ready for longer work by Adam Croft.
