Not Missy DeMeanor. At last week’s meeting, her best friend Noreen nearly came to blows with Anne Baxter over the merits of the book they were reading. After that unprecedented outburst, Missy never in a million years thought Anne Baxter would turn up dead in the middle of the next meeting.
Everyone immediately suspects Missy’s best friend, Noreen. Even her high school sweetheart and the current chief detective, Tyler Brock, thinks Noreen is guilty, leaving Missy no choice but to once again assume the mantel of private (but unpaid) investigator, only this time to prove her best friend’s innocence.
With the odds against her, Missy embarks on an investigation that dredges up long-standing grudges and some of the town’s deepest, darkest secrets. Despite all the evidence to the contrary, can Missy exonerate her friend…and keep off the ten pounds she just lost?
Book Club Bloodshed is a cozy mystery with plenty of twists, turns, humor, and a little bit of romance.
Noreen; Missy’s best friend is arrested and Missy must help her friend. However, at what cost?
Tyler Brock, the love of Missy’s life is trying to work things out with his estranged wife and yet he clearly still has feelings for Missy – mixed signals!
A good read, just a bit slower than the other books in the series.
This was really good. Missy makes a good detective, even though she is not on the police force. This one was a bit of a challenge as the perpetrator was not someone I would have considered at first, although the signs were there early enough. There were just a lot of really good contenders to pick from. A good read, and a great author!
⚫️ Hate that Bates had to link Noreen & Tyler in a backstabbing way towards Missy in this book. It’s annoying that things happen to Missy & it’s like she just has to accept it. I wouldn’t have helped Noreen & yes I would remove both from my life. No one has time for friends like them. ⚫️ “Get out of the way, you whale” REALLY BATES REALLY!?! Is Missy that huge in reality that someone would really scream out of the window that obscenity!? Bates puts way too much emphasis on Missy’s weight & it’s getting tiring. It takes away from the quality of the book & her writing. ⚫️ Yet more typos in this book as well as the last! Come on Bates! Get it together! ⚫️ *Face palm* This PI Paul I.S Gold was a joke & was the most typical PI description I have ever heard “mustache & overcoat” with a “sleazy vibe” the cliche! ⚫️I do like her emotional moments that reel in the reader but then loses it when Missy either caves or gives in; in the moment. It feels like Missy just lets everyone walk all over her & yet has small moments of bravery that don’t work for me. ⚫️ Repetitive AGAIN! Bates has a habit of repeating things over and over! Sometimes within the same paragraph ⚫️ Every person in their 20’s made her feel “old” which she mentions many times in this book ⚫️ I’m starting to ABSOLUTELY HATE her way of wrapping up her books! This sudden approach that it gets figured out at the end of one chapter then you are excited to see how it continues & by the next and final chapter it completely misses the juicy part of the killer being caught and jumps to a few days later! Unbelievable! ⚫️ Honestly, I hate this book with a passion! This whole deal with Noreen the supposedly is a bestfriend since childhood was in a physical relationship with Missy’s high school sweetheart Tyler that she is still currently still in love with 20 YEARS LATER I might add & she is still friends with this chick at the end. I don’t give a bleep how long ago it was a true friend would NEVER CROSS THAT LINE! I hated this book it made Missy look weak and like she had no self respect! Damn these books are getting worse and worse! But I must finish what I started! 🤦🏽♀️😩

kindle unlimited, second of at least 6 {and 6 book collection} of whiney airhead going on about her weight, please not cover art picture re weight, mixed in with grammar and proofing nightmares of various sorts and evidently having known everyone in town yet some not being her age and/or different interests still claims to know all about them, until she doesn't, ad nauseum UGH.
Who knew Book Clubs could be so dangerous? Not Missy DeMeanor. At last week’s meeting, her best friend Noreen nearly came to blows with Anne Baxter over the merits of the book they were reading. After that unprecedented outburst, Missy never in a million years thought Anne Baxter would turn up dead in the middle of the next meeting.

I enjoyed this book but I did figure out the ending quickly. I still enjoyed the main character Missy and the struggle with old feelings of romance. I will definitely continue to read this series.
All Missy DeMeanor wants to do is get through the book club's choice of book and have a nice discussion. Unfortunately, that's not going to be possible. Member Anne Baxter is having a nasty argument with Missy's best friend Noreen, and neither one is willing to give an inch. Finally, a time-out is called, and the two go their separate ways. But when book club once again resumes, Anne is nowhere to be found...until one of her own friends finds her dead behind the library. Now, Noreen doesn't have a solid alibi, and when she's arrested for the murder of the woman, Missy has no choice but to find the real killer...
So you can see that this was not a popular entry to the series for me. However, as the book touted repeatedly, an independently published book does have value (and I do read as many of them as those by the big name publishers) and none should be panned without thinking about it. So I have rated this accordingly.
I did like the plot line, I liked the fact that Missy is fiercely loyal to her friends, and has a good relationship with her mother. I knew who the killer was before she did, but then again, I read a lot of mysteries, so there's that. I liked the ending, and since I've started the series, I will continue to finish it.
Another quick read. A few typographical and grammatical errors but not glaring enough to detract from the reading (hard to tell if it came from the original source or is an error made when changing to an electronic medium). I figured out the killer around the same time our amateur sleuth did, but didn't get a huge sense of "I'm right!" because the story seemed a little rushed at the end in regards to solving and wrapping things up. The main thing I like is the main character, Missy, is one you can easily relate to. Girl-next-door type with a few pounds she'd like to lose (although you can't tell by the cover art). The maybe, maybe-not vibes in the romantic department with an ex-boyfriend is getting a little bit old. Either they have a relationship or they don't ... long looks when not avoiding one another is so juvenile.
Books and bloodshed - Oh My! One of the book club members (Anne Baxter) seems to find fault with any book they read that isn't her choice, Missy's friend, Noreen, isn't happy and the two of them nearly end up physically fighting, the members decide to take a break and cool down, but when the re-convene 10 minutes later Anne isn't there, and then they find her dead, very dead, outside. Now Noreen has been arrested, no bail is allowed and she is going to trial in a week! Missy knows her friend can be hot headed but she also knows she isn't a killer, with Tyler (Missy's high school sweetheart) being told to wrap the case up quickly Missy sets about finding the true killer so Noreen can be released as soon as possible.
Book Two, and the series is still underwhelming. Missy is still nice and still preoccupied with her weight and a good looking wimp; Tyler still doesn't seem to know what he wants; and, Cody is still the best character. The only real difference is that Noreen has earned a place on the "Are you kidding me?!" list for lousy timing, disloyalty, and sufficient insensitivity to follow up a bombshell with a demand for help. The mystery is okay, but the guilty party is obvious by the halfway point, and the author misses a perfect opportunity for plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor in regards to the motive. Competent proofreading is still needed. All in all, this is a good premise with potential that fails in the follow- through.
I thought this book is a good follow-up to the first of the series, however, I only gave it three stars because it still is not as deep or as interesting as I thought it would be. I did like the yoga pants, and I like the work out. And I love how there is very little body shaming and this particular book. I did not expect the killer, the thought crossed my mind at the start of the book, but I did not expected to actually turn out the way it does. There are so many suspects, by the middle of the book I wasn’t sure who actually done it. I look forward to reading more from the series and find it to be quite enjoyable.

Another good solid cozy but again the killer was obvious. Also please note that it is only 82% of the page count. A Book Club meeting ends in murder after arguments. When her BFF is arrested and charged with the murder, she knows she has to look into events herself especially when her ex-boyfriend makes it clear that he believes that she is interfering. As does his wife. Frankly she should kick him to the curb and either find someone else or be happy on her own. As you can see I've really gone off the hero! A nice plot, if obvious and the characters are good and strong.
Who would kill a person no one likes? Anyone, that's who.
Brianna Bates writes a great mystery and I am really enjoying this series. I love the relationship between Missy and Noreen, the unwavering trust. This sure came in handy to save the day in both of the books that I've read so far. I have already started book three, thanks to the sneak preview at the end of this book. Can't wait to continue reading it. Great series.
Missy DeMeaner is a fierce friend and will do anything for her best friend, even Chase down a killer. No one really knows who the real murderer is but all evidence points to Noreen. Missy puts her job and even her life on the line to get to see who really did kill Anne and prove it. This fun book is a mystery to the end with a small town feel, an old unresolved romance, a book club and delight to read.
This cozy was very enjoyable. The characters seemed relatable to the reader. Most cozys that I have read have revealed clues about the antagonist early in the book, but I never anticipated who it was. Although this was the second book in the series, this was the first book from this author that I read. This book can function as a stand alone book and the reader would not be lost in regards to background knowledge.
#2 of this series was just as clever as the first one. I actually did not figure out this murder mystery until much later. This time a member of the book club is found dead outside the library during the meeting of the book club. Missy's good friend is accused and it doesn't look good for Noreen as all evidence points to her. Missy has to find the real murderer and fast. Once again she comes in contact with her old (now married sweetheart). I just love this fun read
While there are more books in this series I will not be reading them. I understand that cozy mysteries are supposed to be lighter reads but this author is way more cozy than she is mystery.
I had the murderer figured out pretty early on in both of the books. Maybe it’s because as the reader we are able to have more information than the main character but the murderer was pretty obvious. No one ever suspects the butterfly...
As a reader of many cozy mysteries, I have to say this series is quite enjoyable. The main character Missy is all heart with some spunk and a whole lot of savy. She involves herself in investigating crimes to help loved ones be removed from the suspect list while sometimes butting heads with her ex high school crush who happens to be the officer in charge.
I really enjoyed this book. It has it all, mystery, romance and realistic characters. I liked the fact that it kept me interested to the end. Can't help but want Miss and Tyler to get together again.
Missy is a fascinating character. She works in a used book store and has a talent for finding killers. This was funny in places and dramatic in others. I enjoyed reading it.
How do you prove you did not do something when circumstances suggest otherwise? Rumors, gossip, and just jumping to false conclusions filled this story proving that the majority mindset isn't always correct.
Disagreement at a bookclub, two women, and now one of them turn up murdered. Missy maybe an amateur, but can she find the real killer. This one has some surprises along the way, enjoyable cozy mystery.
This was an okay book, but it wasn't great. The writing didn't drag you into the story and the characters were all annoying. There were also parts that were not realistic and turned me off from the story. There was not a lot happening in the book either.
How can a small town have so much crime and a killer that lives next door. Best friends question your innocence and have trouble believing. Good story, fun to follow the people and the secrets.
the young woman in this book is very close to.one friend that she works with and when that woman is accused of murder she goes all out to prove her innocent.
I enjoyed this one more than the first in the series and was thrilled that Missy's weight was not so much of an issue as in the first book. Will definitely be reading the rest in the series.
