Juliet's plans to wed Lord Elbourne come to naught when she discovers he's obliged to wed an heiress from overseas instead. To salvage her dignity, she enters into a ruse with the heiress's brother, whom she views as a rake. Unfortunately, he's also the most attractive man she's ever met.

When Cody Gryphon arrives in London from Texas, everyone seems to think he's just like his wicked cousin, Lord Zachary Gryphon. Furthermore, his uncanny resemblance to Zachary doesn't make it easy to establish himself. Nevertheless, he'll do anything to see his sister Stephanie wed to Lord Elbourne, including entering into a temporary engagement with her romantic rival, Juliet. Although he intends to return to Texas as soon as his sister is wed, he finds it increasingly difficult to resist Juliet's charms.

Can a rake and a debutante find their happily ever after?

I really enjoyed this one. I was attracted to this selection originally as the wealthy hero to this one was born in England, but emigrated to Texas when he was a child and his sister born in Texas was the heroine for one of the side romances. Being an American reader I wondered how this was going to play out in Georgian/Regency era England for these characters romantically with these siblings' respective British love interests? The author made this credible that the sister Stephanie could attract a titled Lord despite how rough in manner and interests she was. Plus also made you cheer on Cody and Juliet that their ruse would become real and that they could overcome all their obstacles including Cody being determined to return to Texas.

Language: No profanity.

Sensuality: Clean traditional Georgian/Regency romance with only kisses. 2 characters from the prior first title in the series are pregnant.

Rake and Romance (The Beaucroft Girls #2) - PG
Violence: fisticuffs, beating
Language: nothing inappropriate
Sex: no sex, yes kisses

Definitely read this after Beaucroft Girls #1. It was really nice visiting with familiar characters and embracing new ones. Clever story.

I didn't love this one quite as much as the 1st in the series, but it was an enjoyable story. I was strongly shipping Juliet and Elbourne in the first book, so when it turned out they were not going to make it I was rather disappointed. But I do like the characters they fell for instead, and it was nice to see that both of them got their HEA. The conflict in the book felt natural. I would definitely read more by this author. Recommended!

Part 2 of the Beaucroft Girls was almost as enjoyable as the first book. I enjoyed having all those characters I knew from before play a major part in this one. I got to catch up with everyone. There almost seemed to be too mu;ch going on but I reminded myself it is fiction.

Great series.

I wish there were more than two books. I loved the way the characters were developed and the twist and turns in the books. I couldn't put the two books down until I had devoured them.

There's quite a bit of suspension of disbelief required when the wealthy Texans take London by storm in the sequel to Ruse and Romance. Still, assuming anything is possible and good will win out over bad is a prerequisite to enjoying the romance novel. I was especially pleased that this novel caught up all the loose ends from book 1, even redeeming one of the worst characters from the first book.

Fantastic story! Juliette is about to be the laughing stock of the ton! When they find out she has been thrown over for an heiress, they will whisper and gossip. Ruining her very first season. She was expected to make a very good match with Lord Elbourne. They get on very well.
But then he finds out his family is in dire straights and in need of funds.
An American raised heiress will be his wife it seems.

To save her reputation she talks the heiresses brother into a ruse of an engagement.
The fun starts there!
This was a great read, fast paced for the most part. Reading about these couples was interesting and enlightening! One never knows ones self worth until it's obvious! LOL
It is a cathartic moment when you realize what you thought was love, really was not even close. And then realizing what you might do to keep that love is even better.
Excellent writing and pace. The only thing that was a detraction for me was the use of a lot of contractions. For some reason, this bothered me. But it was a good book and I will look for more by this author!

In Rake & Romance, Juliet’s sister Kitty, married happily and Juliet hopes to as well. Her intended, Augustus, will surely pop the question soon.

But his family falls on dire times and Augustus’ father decides to marry him to a Texas’ heiress.

The heiress doesn’t come alone, but with her brother Lord Cody Gryphon in tow. And though most everyone in town thinks him someone he’s not, for his sister’s sake and Augustus’ Juliet and Cody decide to announce their engagement–a ruse.

For Cody wants to return to Texas more than he wants a wife, and Juilet doesn’t really want to marry right now, especially a man so resembling one of her worst enemies—does she?

You’ll have to read to find out!

Rake & Romance by Suzanne G. Rogers is a charming story of redemption and love. Though this is the follow up to Ruse & Romance, you can read them as standalones, I think. If you enjoy Victorian romance do give Rake & Romance a try.

This story took place in England in 1845.

4 couples became acquainted or further acquainted:
Cody & Stephanie (H & h)
Gus & Stephanie (H's sis)
Zack and Vi (H's male cous)
Horatio & Adriona

This HR was good in parts. But some characters gave
knee-jerk reactions w/o thinking things through IE
the hero responded w/ anger after his widowed father
announced plans to re-marry. The heroine dwelled
too often on believing her sister the more beautiful
of the two.

If you read the previous book in this couplet, you may have misgivings about reading this offering. Don't. While the first book seemed more like a novella, lacking some depth and ending abruptly, this second book does know such thing. The writing is just a well done, but you also get the depth of character development and story resolution you expect. I recommend it.

Absolutely wonderful!

Suzanne G. Rogers has written a masterfully compelling story that is both enticing and clean. Well done. I really appreciate the fact that she draws a clear difference between infatuation and love, though I do wish she'd give love a little more time to develop. I truly enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to more by her!

This is a good sequel; it wraps everything up nicely. The story goes in a slightly different direction then you first assume. I enjoyed it; nice, simple, clean read.
