The Religion Of Truth

Rate this book
All praise be to ALLAH, Lord of the worlds. May the peace and blessings be upon all of His Messengers.

This is a call for salvation which I would like to present to every wise person, hoping that ALLAH, the All-Omnipotent and the All-Sublime, would guide by it those who have gone astray, and that He may reward me bountifully and reward everyone who participates in distributing it.

We should know that the only way for our salvation in this life and in the Hereafter is to know, for sure, our Lord who created us, believe in Him, and worship Him Alone. We should also know our Prophet صلی الله علیه وآله وسلم whom ALLAH had sent to us and to mankind, believe in him and follow him. We should know the religion of truth which our lord has commanded us to believe in, and practise it.

Overall the translation of this book was awful. I give it 1 star not because of the content, which wasn’t presented especially well, but because the translation was so bad and the spelling errors/typos so numerous I can only conclude this printing was the first and original draft.

The author says that by becoming Muslim a Christian and Jew becomes a true follower of Moses and Jesus and that all of the prophets have been Muslim and practitioners of Islam. I hadn’t thought until now of how awkward it makes conversion for Jews, who reject Jesus as a prophet. Jews basically have to convert to Christianity and Islam to be Muslim so the hurdle for them is greater when converting.

I think the best and most compelling part of Islam is the cult of personality surrounding Muhammad. The author says “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, he must be followed and obeyed, not denied. Whoever obeys Muhammad will abide in the Garden and whoever disobeys him will abide in Hell-fire.” Hadiths, which are collections of stories about the Prophet, become very important because they are first hand accounts of the Prophets life. They clarify what his will is and what you should do to align yourself with his Will, how you should obey him, etc. This in-depth study of his character makes him interesting, mystical, like a light unto the world, an example of a perfect human life. It makes the religion into a cult of Muhammad, which seeks to replicate/multiply his incarnation infinitely until the end of days. This is compelling, inspirational, powerful, interesting. The religion is a sort of Muhammad cloning program. This is way better than the Quran, which I gave 5 stars out of respect for Islam, but was very disappointing when compared with the Bible, works of Plato, Nietzsche, Spengler, Gita, etc.

The book is written by a Saudi Wahhabist so you get his perspective which is interesting. Throughout the book he admonishes Shi’ites for creating shrines and following the descendants of Muhammad and revering their authority as imams. He repeatedly says they are not above others but this just made me reflect on how cool Shia Islam is, how many sects have a system of imams with lineal authority and how interesting it is that these sayyids are elevated and revered as being more close to God in some way, receiving their authority by blood rather than recognition from the Ummah. It makes logical sense that they would have authority because they are, after all, direct descendants of the most perfect man to have ever lived according to Islamic tradition. I was left thinking the Shia position is more interesting and compelling, especially the Ismailis who also believe in cyclical reincarnation.

There are some funny parts of this book that had me smiling and laughing out loud. Probably the best part: “It is a FACT that a healthy man can satisfy the sexual desires of FOUR women.” He then goes on to say “Those who oppose polygamy are the real enemies of women, virtue, and the prophets of Allah.” I love that he is unapologetic and actually affirms the teachings of his religion according to scripture, as opposed to many Christians and Jews who ignore, hide or censor their own texts to align themselves more closely with modern ideologies and popular moral teachings. Because I have already heard these opinions before they have lost a lot of their shock/entertainment value. And the evidence he uses to support his argument is not particularly beautiful, moving or interesting. Would not recommend unless you want first hand account of Wahhabist beliefs by a Wahhabist.
