Humanity’s First Intergalactic War is over, but only after testing the resolve, patience and skill of every last one of Earth’s guardians.

The Aquillians have been defeated, but their threat has not been eliminated. Commander Prime Jefferson Grant’s life has been spared, but only in exchange for a life of servitude. No sooner had the dust settled and the dead buried before the survivors of the Aquillian race would emerge. Allied with a strange, new enemy and prepared for combat, these are not the creatures that allowed their civilization to be destroyed so easily by the humans in years past.

They’re attacking Earth and her colonies without method or mercy, leaving the leaders of the United Space Corps scrambling to react. The last best hope lies with the soldiers, tradesmen and service members in the field, thrown into the fire to survive or otherwise. Driven by forces he does not understand, Commander Prime Grant must lay his past aside, lead his crew through the battle ahead, and forge a team unbreakable in body if not in spirit.

Continue the adventures of Commander Grant from Mission:SRX #1: Confessions of the First War!

An odd ending

We continue to see Grant leading the fight against both the original threat and also the new ones in the black armor that showed up at the end of the last book.
The editing is still randomly allowing things like waist instead of waste & other homophones. But the story is otherwise good. This book has some familiar current military themes and verbiage like the universal truth that we all knew as “hurry up and wait” along with Charlie Foxtrot and “slow is smooth, smooth is fast”. I found the ending to make me unsure of whether the story will continue or radically change if there is a next book. YMMV

Exciting military sci fi

A disgraced leader is removed from prison to lead a suicide mission to save the earth colony on Mars. In fighting the invading aliens, he encounters a miner with prosthetic legs and a miner engineer who rise to the occasion. No sooner than they subdue the threat on Mars, they relaize Earth is at risk. The aliens appear to be tested humans ability to respond. What chance does mankind have?

Straight off - this book is way better than the series launch which I rated as a 3-Star read. I think this is because Grant is humbled a bit. He is not as cocky and arrogant as portrayed in the first book, and this is a good thing. Perhaps it is also a better installment because there are more likable characters. Scott Ryan (civilian engineer) and Othello really rise to the occasion.

This story picks up straight away for Mission: SRX 1 with Grant alive and well - a Private - doing his thing until the end of time. A new threat comes knocking on the door and the adventure begins again.

There is still the unknown thread of weird artifacts and I think it has something to do with how this one ends...but I can't divulge that bit.

Although I felt some of the scenes drug out too long, it reads faster than the first installment. I am curious as to where this story is going. I have, and will read, the third in the series.

There are plenty of brutally violent scenes and scores of death.
