Author was born in Merkel, Russia in 1901 and immigrated with his family to Hastings, Nebraska in 1907. After earning degrees from Hastings College and Stanford University he published his first book, Allied Propaganda and the Collapse of the German Empire in 1918. This volume covers history of his early years, the story of an immigrant family's adaptation to American culture in the Midwest.
