I enjoyed reading the book. It provided a great history of the Swett family. Perley was an interesting man who lived a simple yet difficult life.

Through Amy's contact with the Swanzey, NH author, she was able to attend the meeting. The granddau. of the hermit, she gave interesting insight into the process of retrieving the diaries and letters on which the description of these past decades and Perley's life is described. Fascinating to have such personal and lifestyle detail on a community which is only represented now by cellarholes deep in the woods, related in a very nonjudgemental fashion.
