Don Pendleton was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, December 12, 1927 and died October 23, 1995 in Arizona.

He wrote mystery, action/adventure, science-fiction, crime fiction, suspense, short stories, nonfiction, and was a comic scriptwriter, poet, screenwriter, essayist, and metaphysical scholar. He published more than 125 books in his long career, and his books have been published in more than 25 foreign languages with close to two hundred million copies in print throughout the world.

After producing a number of science-fiction and mystery novels, Don launched in 1969 the phenomenal Mack Bolan: The Executioner, which quickly emerged as the original, definitive Action/Adventure series. His successful paperback books inspired a new particularly American literary genre during the early 1970's, and Don became known as "the father of action/adventure."

"Although The Executioner Series is far and away my most significant contribution to world literature, I still do not perceive myself as 'belonging' to any particular literary niche. I am simply a storyteller, an entertainer who hopes to enthrall with visions of the reader's own incipient greatness."

This was an interesting book for me. It started off pretty slow, but then picked up about one-third to half way through. I was kind-of surprised at some of the "stuff" that happened in the book, to be honest; I was not expecting some of the 'events' to go down the way they did. The character development was so-so for the 'guest stars' of the book (the secondary characters and the villains, that is). It takes some time for the story to build up; there are some moments where it felt like it might take off, early on, but those moments were more setting up things for 'later' in the book.

As much as I liked the book, overall, the ending was kinda . . . 'weird.' It just seems to abruptly end. The book is moving in one direction, and then it suddenly changes. It goes from more of a 'big picture' kind-of-story to something more personal and focused. From there, it becomes even more narrow in its focus, and then it ends. I was "what?!?!? That's it?!?" when it was over. I did not really see it coming (other than knowing I was getting close to the end of the book and wondering if the author was going to 'tie it all together' or end it with various loose ties; he ended it with other loose ends that may or may not have been picked up in subsequent books).

In any case, I am glad that I read the book. It was loaned to me by a co-worker to try out, and I am glad that I did. I would rank it 2.7 -3.1 stars, overall, rounded to 3 stars.
