“Nothing I have ever tried has given me the thrill like taking something that isn't mine does.”Lilly is eager to make a better life, for not only herself, but for the brother who raised her. Things only get more complicated when a deal is offered that is almost too good to be true. In walks the Justin. An annoyingly good-looking guy who pushes her to not give up on her dreams, even when things don't go as planned. Despite Lilly's best efforts, Justin falls into a world of fast cars, fast money, and fast crooks. After all, habits are hard to break.**This book is a standalone**

This was a surprisingly fabulous book. I read the synopsis and thought it would be good, but turned out way better than I thought. While I was reading, I thought there has to be a huge reason why Justin kept pushing Lilly away but was so interested in what she does. I really enjoyed the twist at the end. Although, Lance I did not see coming at all.

I loved the thrill aspect of this book. It as almost like Gone In 60 Seconds was turned into a book, but with better characters. Lilly's relationship with Kip helped make the book better. Her big brother was her only family, and they stayed close while he worked really hard to give her a better live. The romance aspect was really sweet, once Justin finally gave in. Only be tarnished when the truth came out. I also enjoyed that Lilly didn't give and run back to Justin, she choose to take of her self and be on her own for a while. It helped to grow up a little and realized how much she loves Justin.

There is has not been this much fun had in a car since I was a Jr in High School. But that's another story.

Lilly and her brother Kip have been on their own for a while now. Lilly is going to school but also has to work. To make ends meet. To pay for school. She works at a garage. Changing oil. Doing paperwork. And her other side job. The one she's trying to quit.

I haven't lifted a car in two years.

And she is not talking about power lifting here people. She does some things she's not proud of but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Stress is a common occurrence; school and money tend to do that to me. But the only thing that has instigated a reaction in me in a very long time is the thought of getting away with what I'm about to do.

Lilly meet Justin at school. He is the cute, really cute guy who keeps popping up. At the coffee shop. In class. At study group. She trys to resist. She really does. But Justin is so available and so understanding. And protective.

Lilly allows Justin into more than her heart. She allows him into her circle of friends. Friends who don't always stay on the right side of the law. But their hearts are in the right place.

I stay away from family vehicles or anything that puts a damper on my conscience. Drug dealers, on the other hand, have it coming for them.

Lilly and Justin get in over their head quickly. With their friends. With the job. With each other. Over. Their. Head.

This is the first book by Ms Schneider. And the word "promise" does not do her justice. She has the storyteller gene inside of her. The characters flow. The story will unfold and surprise you.

Everyone comes to a point in their life when, if desperate enough, scared enough, they'll do anything to protect the people they love. I'm not sure whether I've reached that point or if I've lived it my entire life.

You just want to jump in and find out how Lilly got here and where she goes next. And buckle up because it goes from zero to whoooo hoooo.

These tears are different from the ones yesterday. Those were born out of anger and frustration. These are born from true, unfiltered pain.

Ms Schneider has given us a story of desperation. Of the extent you will go to for security. And the road back to trusting yourself. Because that is often the hardest trust to rebuild.

There's something carnal about being so attracted to someone, something that makes me want to leap out of my skin because I can't handle what my body is telling me.

This book definitely took me by surprise. I knew going into this that it was a new adult book by a debut author, and I assumed I would like it and that it would be good.

But I LOVED it.

This was so much fun. I seriously love Lilly. I found it so easy for me to associate with her personality, it was almost like she was based on me. Lol... she is a firecracker. But she is also a handful of trouble.

I LOVE JUSTIN. Damn. And I love them together. I love their sense of humor and their chemistry.

And this book had a bit of action! Speaking of action, I usually tend to see a twist coming a mile away in new adult books, and I had some guesses about this one, but I was TOTALLY WRONG. It didn't hit me until it was happening. I think I felt as confused as Lilly did. Like I seriously felt her shock. I was surprised. And confused. And angry. And sad.

I got completely absorbed in the story and loved every second of it. I cannot wait to read more by Rachel in the future!

First of all, thank you Rachel for the copy. I really had no idea that the book was going to take the turns it did. Which is a really good thing because I'm all for something different. I was totally surprised at what happened 3/4ths of the way through but it just made the story more interesting because I really didn't see it coming. This book was exciting, suspenseful and of course it had the romance. For a debut novel, the writing was phenomenal! I was sucked in from the very beginning and it really left me guessing as to how things would unfold. Going into this book I was expecting a plain and simple college romance. Definitely not what I got. I was able to relate a lot to the beliefs Lilly had and the whole story was just exhilarating. I am so excited to see what happens next with all the characters. The internal struggles the characters went through just added to their persona and made them even more likable. I wish I could go into more detail about the characteristics of each but that would just give away the story and I really want everyone who reads it to enjoy it without much background info. The book had way more action than I anticipated but enjoyed every minute of it!

Brilliant debut

Rachel Schneider has written a brilliant debut novel with Taking Mine. I felt like I was in a Fast and Furious movie which I loved! Such a great take on the genre! Lilly is a heartbreaking hardened character whom I was drawn to with her street smarts and smart mouth. I loved watching the relationship between her and Justin play out. Ms. Schneider throws in a fantastic twist that I never saw coming and it threw me for a loop! I loved all the attention to details in this high speed novel....it made it all seem so real. Hang on tight because this book will take you for a ride! Loved every minute of it!

It's not often when you find a new author, and immediately you fall in love with their writing style. You find it hard to put the book down and curse day today life for getting in the way, but not only that you cuss yourself out for leaving it so long to pick up just because it's a debut author and you're not sure, it sounded ok, but.... Seriously how wrong can you be !

For a debut author I'm in awe of Rachel, now it takes a lot for me to give away my precious stars, a book has to have it all, you have to know it, you get that feeling and I love that feeling it happens in about the first 6/7 chapters but by the end of the book you know it. Rachel nailed it !!!

Lilly (not the flower) is the perfect mix of sassy and sweet, she trusts little but loves hard and would do anything for her brother, the man who gave up everything so she could follow her dream and have the life he so desperately wants her to have. But she's let her GPA slide and now she's had her scholarship revoked which means she needs to go back to fast cars, fast money and fast crooks, a life she vowed never to go back too but desperate measures and all that......

Kip is a good guy and she doesn't want to let him down, he is all she has since their father was killed and mommy dearest walked away, can Lilly do this to him without telling him not if Taylor has his way...

Cue Justin, a complication, a friend, an attraction, a need, a want, a hot guy, a protector. Lilly catches his eye and he can't seem to shake that feeling, they try friendship and it works it's easy but full of sexual tension and it spoils and boils over, cue awkwardness, funny moments and the easy banter between the two. Justin trying to be the Alpha but Lilly being brought up the wrong side of town having none of it ( I like her spunk and tenacity this comes off really well) especially when other men show an interest.

Finally they succumb to each other and I gave that little fist pump and cheer, meeting Justins family adds another layer to this book and you see another softer side to Justin which makes him hotter. but all is not as it seems.

The betrayal, lies, truth, love and twist in the plot are all brilliantly interlinked, negotiated and executed to perfection keeping the easy flow of the book and with this in mind kept me reading word for word, page for page and wanting more from Rachel which can only be a good thing.

I'm hoping as this is part 1 that Kip, Lance and Kaley will get their stories told and if they are as good as this one I'll be waiting

what I was expecting when I opened the book.

Lilly is something. She is a very unique female lead. She shattered the strong girl stereotype and made one of her own: complete Bad A**! Her inner monologue never got tiring. In fact, I often chuckled at her in general. Her personality is sassy, sarcastic, and surprisingly had this cautious loving and tender side that makes her the all around amazing character she is.

Justin. I really didn't know what to think of them at first. He was a puzzle. Once he released the fire Lilly ignite in him it was amazing because along with that came this fierce protectiveness that anyone would swoon over. His stereotype also cannot hold a candle to him and I will be putting him in my BBF corner.

Hard to believe this is a debut novel. The details, plot, and overall execution of this novel is extraordinary. I cannot wait to see what comes next for her!

I really enjoyed this. It is a great debut novel for Rachel. It was one of those i wasnt sure where it was gonna go then...boom! It hits you all at once. About halfway it really picks up pace. I also got unexpectedly emotional. I hadn't realized how emotionally invested I was with the characters. I love the storyline too.

Really wanted to like this one since I'm obsessed with her other book, but this felt too unpolished. The pacing was too quick, the plot twist too predictable, and Justin never felt like a sympathetic character. It had so much promise with the premise and her relationship with Kip, but the rest fell too flat.

Oh my!! I don't know what to say... I absolutely love discovering new authors, and when I was offered to read this I jumped at the chance. What I really didn't expect was that I was going to give this story 5 stars!

I absolutely loved it! It was just my kind of story, I loved the action, I loved the sexiness, I loved the friendships that were formed, I loved the drama, the chemistry, I loved the twists, I loved Rachel's writing style and I loved the ending. All of it was just brilliant! I was hooked from the start. I loved the banter between the characters and the way the story progressed - great pace throughout with lots of layers to the overall story line.

So in the book we meet Lilly and Justin. Lilly and her brother Kip have been surviving on their own for years following their parents no longer being around. Kip has done his best to bring up Lilly and support her. Lilly is at school, gets on with life, she's hardened with everything she has been through in life, and does not trust easily. She doesn't like to drink or go out to loads of parties.... but in the end she does have to resort to some old ways of making some cash and does certain things to make ends meet (I'll say no more)! She needs to raise the cash she desperately needs since her scholarship has been revoked. Lilly's character is awesome - she's a smart, savvy, sexy, sarcastic and strong female character!

Justin is brilliant! I loved his character and him *swoon* I had so many feelings when I met Justin and he made me feel so many different emotions. Him and Lilly run into one another and they form a friendship. There is a lot of attraction there and even more sexual chemistry! But there was something about Justin that didn't sit right... I loved his character, but I wasn't trusting him. There was something off, you knew he was hiding something..... The way the story was written, there were a few clues that got me thinking. I must admit I guessed the twist (but not to the full extent or the involvement of other characters....) I love that though - I love when I can suss out things before the big reveal!! A few things triggered my though process as a reader, but it kept me wanting to read more and see if I was right. There was a moment that I changed my mind and thought maybe I was reading into things too much! It was fantastic how the story got my mind wandering and wondering!! :)

Lilly and Justin want to spend time together, but there are things from both of them preventing them from submitting to their full feelings! When the huge plot twist happens it changes everything. OH MY GOSH!!! Just brilliant.... So many feelings were evoked from the characters and also from me as a reader - I felt and was able to experience through the story, anger, happiness, guilt, regret, sadness and peace! I laughed out loud and I cried!! All of the secondary characters are great and add a lot to the overall read. Kip is great - you could really see his love and protectiveness for his sister. Also I liked Lilly's best friend too - some funny scenes with her.

I'm not saying much more as I don't want to risk giving away any spoilers or ruining any of the surprises! Trust me, they are worth it - go in blind and enjoy it!

This was a superb debut novel from Rachel Schneider & I will definitely be stalking this author from now on (hopefully I won't be too creepy!) to make sure I read the next books from her & don't miss out! I simply loved it!!!

4.5 stars!

Rachel Schneider has blown me away with her debut novel, Taking Mine. Taking Mine is a unique book that had me feeling everything the main character felt. When Lilly was nervous I was nervous, when she had adrenaline coursing through her veins, so did I! There is no way I can explain this rush other than I felt connected to her. When an author gets you that invested in a book you definitely know they did an excellent job writing it!

Let me tell you a little bit about the book. Lilly is in college and her scholarship has just been revoked. She has had a hard past but her and her brother have survived. They have done what it takes to live their life. Lilly resorts back to old ways when she desperately needs money for her tuition. During this struggle she runs into Justin, the sexy, beautiful, and the quite surprisingly, striptease hunk of a man. He brings a whole lot of sexy into her life. What she doesn't know is that along with the steaminess he will also bring problems!

Lilly is beautifully written. Like I said before, everything she feels I feel as well. She is a dedicated woman and I love that about her. She is also smart but she does lack confidence in herself and her ability to be her. This is not a bad thing at all! This endeared me to her right away. This girl has a both strong and weak personality, which she feels she needs to find herself on her own. Her character flaws make her one real character. Rachel couldn't had done a better job of putting her together!

As for Justin, I have nothing and everything to say. He is absolute perfection and absolute devastation. He brings both these feelings to mind. I thought I had him figured out but I was punched in the gut by him! I could not believe the words that I read towards the ending of this book! I can't. I can't. No words. I was in utter shock. This factor was so amazing and another thing Rachel did perfectly! So let me explain my love for Justin because obviously I can't explain my sorta hate for him because it would ruin a good book. I love Justin. What he does for Lilly is amazing in the book. He strips! One of my favorite scenes EVER! His jealously was extremely hot. The way that he protects Lilly was both beautiful and tragic. Ugh Justin you make me feel every emotion out there!

The story line, the plot twist, and everything else was executed perfectly. One of the things I love most is that this book got me interested right away! I love when books catch the attention of the reader right off the bat because it gets them hyped for the rest of the story. The little and big emotions were heard, the exchange between the characters was real, the perfect amount of fear, love, regret, anxiety, anger, and forgiveness makes this book unforgettable! I am beyond impressed by Rachel. This is her FIRST book and it was excellent! Taking Mine will leave you wanting more from Rachel Schneider! I cannot wait for more books from this author.

Even weeks after finishing this book, I still think about it sometimes and have no problem writing this review, and that’s why it’s one of my favorite books this year. It’s so good and unique. I highly recommend it and I can’t wait for the next book by the author.

I loved Lilly and Justin. They are different, but they are a perfect match. Lilly is a smart, independent, fierce and sassy woman. She was devastated when her scholarship was evoked, because she wants to make her brother proud. Justin is perfection. He is tall, muscular, smart, strong and protective. He doesn’t judge Lilly. He wants her just like she is.

Lilly’s bad habit is revealed fast and I didn’t expect that. I was the first surprise of many more that would happen. I devoured the book after a scene in the second half of the book. I was enjoying and loving the book a lot before that scene, but that scene was very, very unexpected. I was in shock and I needed to know what would happen next.

The book is solely told from Lilly’s point of view and this added to the mystery about Justin. He sometimes pushed Lilly away and I didn’t know what to think then. The pull between them was too strong, so Justin can’t keep away too long and I was glad about that. I was always rooting for them to be together.

There was a great build up of their relationship. Their second meeting was very memorable and I still have to smile thinking about it (I’m smiling while writing this). That meeting was the start of their friendship, since they both don’t want a relationship. They spend a lot of time together, mostly to study. One day, Lilly goes to Justin for support and they will become more than friends. It won’t always be easy, but their love is strong.

I also loved the secondary characters. Kip is Lilly’s protective brother who would do anything for his little sister. They have been on there own for very long. Kip didn’t always make the best decisions in the past, but he did it with the best intentions. I need his book now! Some secondary characters aren’t who they seem to be at the beginning and that was another huge surprise.

There is so much more I want to say, but I don’t want to spoil a thing. I loved going in blind and discovering everything. Read it now and enjoy!

Taking Mine by Rachel Schneider isn't a cookie cutter traditional romance you find released each week. In her debut novel Rachel has created a layered romance with a twist that had me unable to put down my Kindle till the end.

Lilly hasn't had it easy growing up, raised by her older brother Kip, her parents non existent. Lilly learned to make ends meet by any means possible, going without and using her feisty personality to get herself out of trouble. Growing up around her older brother in a shop has given her a certain set of skills. In walks Justin when Lilly least expects it. Justin is wild, sexy and just what she's trying to avoid. Justin is persistent and weaves his way into Lilly's daily life. Will Lilly let her guard down to let Justin in? Is Justin the one to be able to earn her trust in all things?

The beginning of this novel was a bit of a slow burn but it's worth the wait. About half way through you'll be hooked - I didn't want to put it down. I found the crime/mystery twist refreshing and even emotional so emotional I was wiping tears trying to focus on my kindle. This book had everything - action, mystery, laughter & tears. You'll be so attached to these characters by the final chapter you won't want to see "The End", I know I didn't. Fantastic Debut - 5 Stars!

So. Many. Feels. This book gets a 5 star because it is beautifully written. When you read a book, you want to feel exactly what the character feels and that is exactly what Rachel Schneider does to you here. There's the falling in love. There's life, a little action, suspense, some more love, and it goes on.

Lilly is struggling after loosing her scholarship so she goes back to do what she's always known to do. Coincidence lands her in front of Justin. Do you believe in fate? Because I do! They were at the right time and the right place.

Lilley sort of frustrated me a time or two with her decisions but who can blame someone that has been handed a shitty life?! You can definitely feel the love pouring out of Justin and his insecurities when it first came to Lilly.

I can't wait to read book #2!

Taking Mine is one of the better debut novels I have read. Rachel Schneider hit it out of the park with this one and I can’t wait to read more from her.
The flow of the story was well paced and the character development was on point. It was just enough suspense to not feel like a swoony romance novel but just enough swoon to make you appreciate the love story. I loved the feisty main female character. She had backbone and was take-no-crap which I enjoyed. This author does a phenomenal job of planting seeds along the way and then slamming you with a plot twist that was unpredictable and exciting. Justin’s character and truths were hot and I couldn’t have been happier with the ending. Bravo, Schneider. I look forward to Forfeiting Decency and any other future works from you.

The first half I wasn't sure where the story was headed, but I realize it is character building and climax building. About 50% it is Whoa, What! Hold the handlebar because we are on a rollercoaster. Don't want to say too much, as not to spoil. Really great debut novel!!!! Can't wait for more from Rachel!

"Everyone comes to a point in their life when, if desperate enough, scared enough, they'll do anything to protect the people they love."

This is hands down, going on my list of the best debut novels that I have had the pleasure of reading. It is really rare for an author to kill it on the first try, most struggle and get better over time. That being said, I am super excited to share this author and the amazing story that she wrote with everyone. Let's discuss Lilly and Justin and their whirlwind romance, shall we?

“You've just got to believe in yourself. Stop worrying about what your future is supposed to be, and start listening to what you want today to be.”

Lilly is a thief. She steals cars and works for the chop shop that dismantles and sells the parts for quick cash. Don't judge her too harshly, she was out, she had a scholarship and a fresh start until one bad semester sends her right back into the pit and looking for enough money to pay for school. Stealing cars is a means to an end, and she hardly has time for doing much of anything between studying and working long nights at the shop. That is, until Justin comes crashing into her life. He's charming and unlike anyone she's met before and Lilly finds herself intrigued by more than just his good looks. Can these two people, who both have mountains of secrets to hide, come together for a beautiful love story? Or will the secrets consume and destroy them both?

"It's easy to see the different. It's not so easy to be the different."

Lilly, what a great leading lady. She's a perfect mix of guarded and wild. She's secretive and stubborn, and I can honestly say that no other heroine has ever made me want to steal a car before her. The rush, the thrill, the excitement she feels is contagious. So is the fear and paranoia that follows. I felt like I was going to get caught and I was the damn reader! Either way, I love Lilly. She has a lot of growing up to do throughout this book, but she does get there. She needed to learn to live her own life, and I feel that it was accomplished beautifully (and maybe a bit messily due to her spitfire attitude and stubborn streak). Despite my occasional desire to slap Lilly in the face for some of her more questionable decisions, I really enjoyed her journey. I'm thrilled that she stepped out from what was normal, for her, to find what made actually made her happy.

"I'm happy. I'm angry. I'm content. I'm disappointed. He's the furthest thing from indifferent, and it's amazingly awful."

Justin, oh sweet Justin. The handsome knight in shining armor. I love him and his perfect stubbly jaw (and neck of course). I could feel a storm coming from his initial introduction, you just know that he's going to shake up Lilly's world... and does he ever, in just about every single way imaginable. He's adorable in his own quirky way, and despite the distance he tries to create you can't help but fall for him. I fell, hard. He can strip for me any damn time (by the way, that scene is going down as one of my favorites EVER). Sometimes you find a main man who makes you utterly swoony and that's him. Despite my connection to Lilly, I was always rooting for this dark knight. He is the perfect man. Tall, dark, handsome, mysterious, protective, valiant and determined. What's not to love?! I just want to pull him out of the book and keep him. That's normal, right?!

"We kiss, and I know we'll be okay. Better than that, we'll be happy, because that's what we are for each other. We're just right."

Together, these two sizzle and explode. The steam and pull is there, and I was never disappointed in the writing or where it took you. I read every word, no skipping or skimming (which is sometimes an issue for me). Rachel, you've done a fantastic job. Aside from the wonderful story that you gave these two, you built up the secondary characters to the point of my new obsession to have more of your books! I need them all, a flipping series would be awesome. I'll take some Kip and a little Kaley, but I also need Lance and even Taylor to have stories. See, I'm greedy but that's what great writing will do to you. I can only see great things in this authors future. I get the feeling that her books will just continue to get better and better until she pulls me into full-on stalker mode. Congrats! I highly recommend this new book, go grab your copy and come fangirl with me.

I'm kicking myself for waiting this long to read this book *shakes fist at world* Damn you, uni courses and non-fun readings.

I mean it's in the middle of exam time and I still didn't have time to read but I decided I needed to just start a book, read a couple of pages before bedtime so I could fall asleep. You book nerds know exactly what happened don't you? A couple of pages? Child please. I ended up reading the entire book, finished it at 4:35 AM (THIS MORNING). Talk about sleep-deprived, but it was so worth it though.

This book honestly surprised me, there were scenes and twists that me gasping and clutching my [imaginary] pearls (Scarlett O'Hara style). I actually threw my kindle away from a couple of times (on my bed, not at the wall., I'm not a monster), when I couldn't handle, emotionally, what was going on.

This book was sorta Fast and the Furious-ish, with car lifting (hijacking? What is it called?), illegal stuff happening and soo much more <- English major here, impressed my vocabulary? *sigh*. If my professors ever reads this, they'll sure kick me out of the program. Anyhoooo

I think my favourite things about this book was, first of all, the writing style, I can't put my finger on it but there was just something about Rachel Schneider's writing style that captivated me from the very first page. This being her debut novel impressed me beyond belief. For real y'all, her very first novel? This? Wow. That is not only bloody impressive, it's amazing. It's so well written with well rounded complex characters, a storyline, and plot that's really great.

Second thing I loved about this book were the characters, from the secondary ones like Lance, Kaley to the main ones like Kip, Justin, and Lily. I loved their different personalities, Kip and Justin's protective sides, Lily's self-assertive, confident and badass self, Lance and Kaley's fun loving and larger than life personalities. What really got me though was the fact that all of these characters had their 'moment' where you saw their depth, you saw them deeper than their surface value person they show the world. We got to seem them as complex characters with more depth.

Then there is the story between Justin and Lily, I'll be honest, for a good portion (maybe 1/3?) I didn't know what Justin's issues were, I mean I thought I had figured it out and then BOOM! Here comes a twist around the halfway mark of the book. You think it stopped there? Oh hell no, there were like one twist within a twist and then another twist afterward. It was like an Oprah episode. "You get a twist!, you get a twist! EVERYBODY GETS A TWIST!". Twists were everywhere, yo.

This book had its emotional, angsty parts but what I loved were the little comedic relief moments that bonded the characters together, like this one:

“He smirks when he reaches my underwear. I smile when he slides a hand over the satin fabric. “It was laundry day.” He removes the rest of the dress, and neither one of us moves. “I’ve wasted more study time than I’d like to admit wondering if you were wearing anything or not.” “That's funny,” I say. “I fantasized about stabbing you in the eye with your pen.” His touch halts. “Wait, what?” I laugh. “You don't want to know.”

There were so many scenes, like the classroom one where it was so vivid, I got embarrassed and [again] threw my kindle away from me, covered my face with my hands...out of shyness.

There were parts were I actually had to message the author, like the biting part. I cracked up laughing so hard. Like really Rachel? Biting, know from personal experience eh? LOL.

“I bite his arm, and he hisses through his teeth against the pain. “What was that for?” “I'm not a drama queen.” “Right, ‘cause inflicting physical pain isn’t dramatic at all.” I make a move to do it again, but he blocks me, spinning me around and pinning my back to his front.”.

The build up between the characters were sizzling, the chemistry off the charts and their banter were hilarious. If you're in the mood for a good book that has some angst, great characters, great plotline and laughter, then pick this one up. You won't regret it Lily and Justin are so worth it.

4 EXPLOSIVE STARS !

Congratulations Rachel Schneider on a fantastic debut novel Taking Mine. A brilliantly written romantic thriller, that will keep you on your toes. Its steamy, its dramatic and the plot twist will leave your mouth agape. I enjoyed this story a lot. The characters were well developed and the mystery prevailed throughout the story. On the whole a great entertainer. I will keep the review short in order to not give away a lot about the story.

“Nothing I have ever tried has given me the thrill like taking something that isn't mine does.”

In Taking Mine we meet Lilly who is a firecracker with acerbic wit. She is smart, intelligent and most importantly she is a hustler. As a family, Lilly only has an elder brother Kip. At a very young age, when life dealt them with poor cards, Kip raised her and gave her a good education so she could make a bright future. When she loses her Scholarship at the grad school, Lilly doesn't tell Kip about it to avoid causing him any disappointment. She had no other choice, but to resort to her old ways of making money in order to support herself.

Amidst her shenanigans, she comes across Justin. A sexy, mysterious stranger who had her wound tight with sexual tension and excitement. As much as Justin tries to keep his distance, he cannot stay away from Lilly. He has a secret, which Lilly cannot know. Soon they both are together,  its school or its work. Their relationship blooms and so does the secrets between them.

Everything has a cost, you just don't know it yet !!!

Its all going to blow up in their faces and secrets will be revealed !!!

See what this explosion will cause?

Solid 4 Star Read

This is the first book by Rachel Schneider that I have read and it did not disappoint. Taking Mine was not your typical romance with the bad boy and the good girl. In fact is was exactly the opposite. Lilly (the protagonist) has had a hard run in life with a father that was killed by a cop and an alcoholic mother that left her at an early age. She was raised by her brother who tried to raise her right but had to do things himself that the didn't like in order to put food on the table. Lilly is currently in college but she has lost her scholarship because her grades aren't exactly stellar. So in order to pay for her semester, she lifts a few cars and takes them to the chop shop that her brother works for. She hasn't lifted cars in a long time but she knows that school is important so she does what she has to do in order to make her brother proud of her.
Enter Justin, the guy who starts to strip in class.... he is seriously good looking and Lilly thinks that he is out of her league. But Justin is hiding a secret that might put them on a level playing field if only Lilly can allow something good to happen to her. But Lilly has to fall before she can pick herself back up instead of letting anyone else pick her up. She knows she has to stand on her own two feet.
This book was a fast paced read with twists and turns that the reader did not see coming. Overall, I really enjoyed my first read of Rachel's and I look forward to reading the second book in the series, Forfeiting Decency which details Lilly's best friend, Kaley!

Taking Mine by Rachel Schneider

I always enjoy a non-traditional love story--something other then the typical boy meets girl and they live happily ever after stuff. This book will give you so much more then that.

College student Lilly is feisty and has a sarcastic manner about her--She's officially a book BFF of mine now. Raised by her older brother Kip, Lilly does her best to please him and has goals on getting into law school, until her grades slip and she loses her scholarship. To make some fast cash she resorts to an old habit-- lifting cars.

In the midst of all this, Lilly finds herself sitting in class next tall-dark-and handsome, Justin. A strip tease in the middle of class and the two wind up at a local bar later on. It doesn't take long to find out the two have much more in common then meets the eye, and this just adds fuel to their fire.

Justin, even though is fun and spontaneous also has some dark secrets. He comes across as moody at a few points in the book, but with good reason. His secrets are enough to tear any two people apart.

There's a huge plot twist in this book that I never saw coming--and honestly it's what made the book. The two characters Lilly and Justin are very well developed, however I do with there were was a little more details and depth on the boys in the car shop....maybe that's just due to my mechanic fantasies though ;)

Overall I give this a 4.5 <3 <3 <3 <3 I will absolutely read more from this author and appreciate that she gave readers a journey of different emotions and situations from family, sacrifices, lies, love, fast money and strong female characters.
