Immerse yourself in the first omnibus of Eme Strife's addictive, sexy, enchanting, and surreal New Adult series. Each page will leave you even more enthralled than the last, on the edge of your seat, and vigorously chomping at the bit for more.

Whoever said living in California was glamorous and easy-going lied through their fucking teeth. I guess I can blame reality TV for that pervasive B.S. Maybe it was good thing my old man banned television at home for all the years he was alive, after all. I probably would’ve been even more deluded than I was when I’d moved up here from Arkansas three months ago.

Looking back, I’m not even sure why I did it; why, of all the places I could’ve chosen to start a new life, I picked San Francisco: one of the most expensive places in the world to live. I don’t even know anyone one here. Heck, I’d never even visited the city before my move.

Still, I’m determined to make it here, to make something of myself. And that means I have no time for distractions of any kind—especially guys.

But then, he comes along; the sexiest, strongest, most handsome, most intimidating, and most powerful man I’ve ever seen. He’s absolutely gorgeous, with eyes that seem to burn right through my soul, and the most charming smile in existence, and his allure, his entire being, is simply magnetic.

He’s impossibly beautiful and just…ugh, perfect. He’s perfect. He’s everything every woman—and possibly quite a few men—wants, including me.

What I’m not prepared for, though, is how much he wants me, too.

However, there are three problems.

One: He’s not a man.

Two: I can only see him in my dreams.

And three: He commands an army of soul reapers.

And, apparently, that’s just the beginning…

Eme (pronounced "Emmy", like the award. Lol) is an unconventional storyteller (and a typical cat-and-dog-loving, animation-obsessed weirdo) who has several sarcastic, upbeat, and severely vulgar imaginary friends who simultaneously piss her off and make her feel normal. She writes about said imaginary friends a lot—mostly because they never seem to shut the hell up.

She's addicted to Family Guy, American Dad, Korean dramas, Japanime, and Pandora (the online radio site, not the evil box), drinks an ungodly amount of Red Bull at any given time, wants to marry Seth MacFarlane's voice at some point, and occasionally eats bacon and popcorn together (^_^).

A mortal woman, lost and unaware. An immortal man, confounded and left wanting. There are so many things unknown to both, how will they begin to unravel them?

Eli is a young woman who works damn hard to make it on her own. She stays to herself, with no real friends or outlets. Working two jobs to make ends meet and overly exhausted on a constant basis.

Matt is an immortal with a workload that even with his unlimited time, cannot keep up with it. Unknown to the world, but yet known to many throughout universes. Alone as he likes, he secretly yearns for more.

When these to happen to meet unconventionally and by complete surprise to them both, neither know what to make of their situations. How did she end up with him? That is a question neither know the answer to. Matt and Eli also don’t know how she just disappears at the worst possible times either. Both puzzled, they continue to ponder their brief encounters.

As things in the world begin to turn wildly out of control and people start to really fear the happenings around them, no one can find the answers needed to fix these huge problems. As strange occurrences begin to happen around only Eli, she begins to question her sanity. Matt is at a loss, for all of his eternity he has never encountered the crises that the world is experiencing, bewildering him to his upmost consternation.

When Matt starts to wonder if these strange problems may have something to do with Eli he feels a sense of dread and real confusion. With beings that are older than people can comprehend unable to put these pieces together, everyone is in danger and in panic mode. So how will they unravel the mysteries combined with everyone’s problems?

I really, really enjoyed this totally original and unique paranormal story. It is absolutely confusing and puzzling, which I love. But I have to say that there were so many questions I was left with it. So many open ended lines to this continuing story that I feel the need to stalk this author and keep up with her characters! I really look forward to putting all the pieces to this puzzle together and finding out if Eli and Matt can make sense of what is happening to their worlds. I also look forward to seeing if they can connect on a romantic level as well, hint, hint, Eme!

Grab a copy and follow along with me to see if we can figure out this outstanding conundrum!

When I originally said I would review The Basilisk's Creed by Eme Strife. I was told it was an omnibus and to review it as such. Not 100% what an omnibus is but now that I have finished this book, I can only assume it is a collection of a novella series bond together as one seamless book. I also assume it was complete…unfortunately I was mistaken.

I have this thing about covers. I like them to make sense with the story. And as cool as I think the cover for The Basilisk's Creed is, I don’t get it. I don’t understand how it ties in with the story. Which is a shame because I did enjoy the book. To say that The Basilisk's Creed is strange is quite the understatement. Matt is a soul reaper although I’m still undecided what that means. Near as I figured Eli is human. Strange unbelievable things are happening around her…the biggest being the entire Atlantic Ocean has disappeared. Matt and his warriors are trying to figure out what is going on while in the mean time Matt is trying to find mysterious dreamgirl Eli. There is some kind of connection between them that I don’t understand but most certainly keeps the story interesting.

I was really hooked and things were really drawing me in. Lots of build up to the story, I can practically see the gears in both their heads spinning. Things started clicking into place and then WHAM! Cliffhanger…NOOOOO! No, no, no! Why did there have to be a cliffhanger and right when things were getting REAL GOOD! I haven’t read Eme Strife but the way this book ended I know I will be back for more.

I received this book from the JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated.

I really enjoyed this book. It had its slow parts, and its confusing parts, but overall it was a fast paced, in your face book about two really really star crossed lovers, I mean like REALLY star crossed, not Romeo and Juliet, so much more than that. Different planes of existence.

I am still trying to figure out what part Eli plays in this book, because she is not your typical bar back. I get what part the reapers play, and I really enjoyed the structure that the author created around the reaper world. It is not like shows similar to Dead Like me, there they die, they are in a different plane of existence and they reap souls. These reapers have families, lovers, enemies, bosses, you know what everyone else has, although they get to disappear at will and also just phase out of your clothes, I mean how cool would that be to phase out of your clothing on the way to bed.

The ending sucked, I mean like really sucked because I don't have the next book and so I was sitting there at 1 am with my mouth wide open trying not to catch flies figuring out what happened, when I could get the next one in the series and how Eme Strife could do this to a loyal reader of the entire book. Yes that is me being egotistical but seriously I read the WHOLE book and she did us this way?

So read the book, gape at the ending, rejoice that while the ending is not only a cliff hanger but more like a drop into space, the ride was worth it, because seriously the ride is totally worth it.

Eli is having trouble with her dreams, for some reason they feel very realistic and she can't stop thinking about Matt, a Dark Reaper who she has met in her dreams. Matt is very curious about Eli and he plans to finish what they keep starting until she wakes up abruptly. Matt has enough on his plate though when he is sent to investigate strange anomalies happening and find the source. Matt is beginning to realize that Eli might be part of the problem.

This was fantastic, very fun read. Eli is spunky and some of the things that happen are pretty funny and terrifying as well. Loved Matt, he is yummy and I cant wait for the next book.

The world is torn by a series of strange and random events. Matt, leader of the Golden Reapers, has been tasked to investigate this – and it may all be linked to the strange woman who visited him and vanished without a trace.

Unfortunately, I had a lot of problems with this book, starting almost from the beginning which didn’t bode well for my finishing it and, alas, I didn’t

We begin with our two main characters – Matt and Eli – being transported randomly and for unexplained reasons to each other in a dream. The following 15% of the book describes how hot they find each other.

That’s pretty much it. We have Eli briefly exploring her new surroundings, then seeing Matt and then DUMP page after page after page of how sexy the other looks/sounds/smells. It just goes on and on and on and on and includes such gems of Matt deciding to call this complete stranger “kitten” and betting he could “make her pussy purr” and saying she has a “pretty collarbone” and how close she was to “making his dick blow”. Apparently by just standing their throwing out sex scent. Dare I say that sounds rather… premature? Throw in him grabbing her and not letting her go even as she said “no”, only thinking better of it when he outright asks her if she’s a virgin; all in all we have a really unpleasant scene. This was continued when they woke up and Eli described how wet she was.

Well, I knew nothing about Eli’s job, what she did or why or where she was or what mattered to her – but I knew she’s just woken up wet and sticky. I have to say, it’s not in my top 10 most favourite introduction to a character.

I nearly stopped there, but I held on and we started into Eli’s life working to make ends meet (interjected with random inserts of Matt’s hotness) and on to Matt who proceeded to have a series of really really clumsy monologues (with random inserts of Eli’s hotness).

The writings style is rambling, confused and reads like a stream of consciousness exercise. I think the book has tried to capture someone’s thoughts without any edit, as if someone just sat and babbled every thought that came into their head – it’s lost, hard to read, full of distracting asides and not very fun. Every now and then the narrative is broken by random expletives (Eli also likes to throw in random “Ugh!” in her narrative) – usually in threes on and separate lines. In fact that happens a lot – something will happen then they’ll curse (or this supernatural general of the Reaper army will invoke the name of Christ when they’ve already rambled on about the “Holy Basilisk” which is just shoddy world building) then next line curse again, then, next line, another rambling expletive.

They both also have a very immature voice which seems odd for their ages – both apparent and in reality. Matt in particular sounds like a petulant and angry teenager, not a commander of a supernatural army. It all draws out the narrative, makes everything clumsy and the characters entirely unbelievable as reasonable, let alone capable, adults.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'm gonna get what I didn't really like or thought needed work out of the way before jumping into the great things about this book. One thing that I occasionally noticed(more like once in a blue moon) is that while the writing was good for the most part, there were occasional spots where things were choppy or word choice could have been better. But for the most part everything worked, you could read without being suddenly jolted out of the book(unless your phone went off or your alarm).

We get perspective from both Matt's and Eli's perspectives and occasionally there's overlap between the two. While the dialogue would be repetitive(although we don't really see this as Eme Strife doesn't really include that much of the dialogue in the second perspective) it was a completely different view on the same event. It definitely made you think and allowed you a chance to see why someone was acting how they were. Which kept things moving for sure!

Another thing I liked but also didn't like about The Basilisk's Creed Omnibus is that there were a lot of questions that kept popping up. If you'd get an answer you'd just find a new question. While it was fun and I liked that, I also don't like that? Mostly because I can be curious but than sometimes I'm just like no, I don't want to be. But if you really like having questions that seem to just keep coming than this is definitely your book.

The Basilisk's Creed Omnibus was a good read, and it left more to be told. It released on the 19th of September and should now be available for purchase.

The Basilisk’s Creed Omnibus is a mixture of paranormal and fantasy with creative and unique events that boggles the imagination.

Eli has a vivid dream where she meets this dark stranger. The whole situation seems so real, until her alarm goes off and wisps her away.

Matt, the Dark Reaper of Eli’s dream, can’t figure out how she appeared in his realm. He knows she is a human, and humans are off limits, however he is drawn to her….can’t stop thinking about her.

Strange things begin happening around Eli….the Atlantic Ocean disappears. How can a whole Ocean just disappear? It is causing all kinds of chaos, especially when the humans discover all the sea life left behind, including the Mer people. How can this all be tied to Eli?

Well, you will have to read this story to find out. The whole concept of an ocean disappearing is so outrageous, that alone drew me into the story. I for one love to read a story that test the imagination…throw in there the reapers, and how they fit in, and you have one unique story plot. PLUS, lets not forget about Matt and Eli…he will protect her…he wants her…her can’t deny her…

What a fun read…it challenges your imagination, and has one heck of a cliffhanger. Give this one a try!

This book was given to me as part of a free giveaway in exchange for my honest review. With that being said let's get into it!

The Basilisk's Creed Omnibus is my first book by Eme Strife that I have read. Her writing style I enjoyed for the mere fact that it reads through first person perspective. The characters don't hold back on their thoughts. Eme is quit descriptive of the attraction that the main characters Eli and Matt have for each other. It's literally a chemical reaction!

Eli being human and somehow pulled into what she thinks is a dream yet questions it's reality is a cool concept. Then you stir in Matt who is in this "dream" which he's not human at all but a hot Soul Reaper, well we all ask ourselves what's a girl to do?

And just when Eli thinks she will never see this attractive honey tongued devil of a character ever again once she wakes, he still lingers in her thoughts. After Eli and Matt's close encounter things get even more strange and things change in the world as they know it. Twists and turns are surfacing in this story and it's only the first part of the series. Yes it leaves you with questions but that's the point to leave you wanting more! Yes please and I look forward to seeing what happens next with these two crazy kids!

The Basilisks Creed
By Eme Strife

The Basilisks Creed is a provocative science fiction story with a flowing and rapidly paced fantastical dream of a girl, Eli, who encounters a grim reaper named Matt. He is not just any grim reaper he is a Golden Commander of all of the grim reapers. The story unfolds as he smells a wonderful scent coming from this shy girl when she is transported in her dream to his spirit world. Matt tries to seduce her but as he is caressing her, her alarm clock goes off and she returns to reality. He must find her again because the world is falling apart because a Shift in control has occurred. I will wait desperately for the next edition to find out what happens in the next book!

I must say that I went from being unsure and a little put off at the fast beginning to wanting to devour these books as fast as I can. As I was thrown headfirst into a strange erotic dream the protagonists shared I was not sure if this was the book I signed up to read but then as the story line slowly came into play I became hooked on reading about these characters and wanting to know more and more about them. My only complaint is that I wanted Eli and Matt to have more time together in the story than what they had but I’m hoping that with the continuation of the story that might happen. Story and worlds were very intriguing in the book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good read. Can’t wait to read the next one as this one was left at quite a cliffhanger!

I recieved free copy of this from the author via Libraything, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This was a very cool story, it flowed nicely and I did not get bogged down at all. It is not overly long so it was read in one sitting. The characters are strong and well written and I might add gorgeous. Matt is stunning and Eli breaks your heart, I am looking forward to reading more about them and the rest of the soldiers. I totally enjoyed this story and will be eagerly reading the next story in the series. Well worth the asking price, I would have been happy to pay for it. Highly recommended!

I can't wait to read the rest of the books to find out about what happens between them.

* I was given this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Please let me start out by saying: I really wanted to love this “book” (novella?), as it has a lot of great elements. I'm all about fantasy books, have read many short stories, and many short series books. Unfortunately this book doesn’t seem to fit into any of those categories. I suppose if they made the trilogy into one book, it would make more sense and be more cohesive.

At the conclusion of this story I was left with: wait that was it?

Characters: What little there was of the characters leaves you wanting more, but in a confused way instead of intrigued. Like the lead, Eli, how does she work two jobs (one of which makes $45 an hour!!?!) and she’s still crushingly poor? What age is she? Why is she living on her own, working two jobs and never been kissed? Then there’s the leading man, Matt, whoops I should say male since we’re told he’s not human or Satan, but outside of a reaper that is overworked and fantastically rich, we don’t know. Reapers? We don’t know what they do outside of being way overworked, but there is a hierarchy, they have family members and all of them seem to become super horny around Eli. So what are soul reapers, what side do they work on? Why do they go to other planets? I suppose you’d find out in following installment.

Romance: The erotic element is crude and closer to porn than erotic. Again I’ve read paranormal romance novels (Sookie Stackhouse, The Hollows, the Women of the Underworld…) and those are H-O-T without being crude (unless where appropriate:).

Plot: Again, confusing. There’s a reaper and a girl that goes to sleep, and somehow appears in his sacred space/office (which is where? Realm? Office? Holy space? Planet? Country?) . She goes to drink a mysterious liquid in a mysterious cup on some sort of alter when Matt catches her and she drops it. We never find out what was in the cup, or why it was so attractive to her. So Matt and Eli have a strong desire for each other. Coincidentally it turns out that Eli’s $45/hour job has her working for Matt. Matt is trying to save the world (though we don’t know from what) and the story ends with his burning desire to find Eli again.

This could be a great book, there just needs to be more substance to it.

Overall Rating: 3 Rockin’ ★★★

This is the combined volumes one, two and three in Eme Strife’s series, The Basilisk’s Creed. It all started with a dream, an out-of-body dream that seemed so real. It is a lucid dream that let the dreamer interact within the dreamscape. That’s where Eli meets her dark reaper for the first time and our story starts.

Matt is a Dark Reaper and a Commander within its force. He is a soul reaper sent to collect souls at their demise. When he is summons to a meeting about a Shift that threatens to destroy his people, he is unable to totally focus on the job at hand. He cannot get Eli out of his mind even when the Atlantic Ocean disappears. Matthiel’s job is to find out what is causing the Shift and handle the problem.

Eli is pulled into another dimension while dreaming. She is so tired of trying to make it on her own. When she moved to California it was to improve her life. But Eli finds herself still struggling to make it. Things begin to happen around her that makes no sense. The dreams and her meeting with tall, dark and handsome is only one of those things.

Will Matt figure out why the Shift is occurring? Is love possible between a reaper and a human? Find out what happens next by reading this book.

Hero – Matthiel “Dark Reaper” 3 stars
Heroine – Elisheva “Eli” Tilton 3 stars
Steam: 3 stars
Plot: 3 stars
Cliffhanger: Yes

Would I recommend this book: Yes! If you are into SciFi this is a good read for you. The action and characters are unique with a storyline that will keep you hooked.

Would I recommend this author: Yes! Great SciFi, Paranormal writer that I won’t to read more from.

I received a copy of The Basilisk’s Creed from the author, Eme Strife in exchange for an honest review.

When I first started this book I found it to be a bit odd, but decided whatever I’ve read books before that started out weird and got better as they progressed. I would love to say that I went on to love this book, but that isn’t so. I knew it was a New Adult book going into it, but there seem to be two branches of NA; one that is very mild in its mature content, and the other that is very, ah, unapologetic in its maturity. This book fell into the second category of NA. So, that made me very uncomfortable, and I was skipping around a lot, trying to find something to read that was story based content. There were moments in the story that I found hilarious and I chuckled about, but for the most part this book just was not the book for me; as I said before, lots of maturity, but there was also an almost overwhelming amount of profanity and sometimes the material was repetitive. I was very glad that the story well represented how people actually think though. I am positive that other people without my hang ups would really enjoy this book and think it was great, so I sincerely hope that some of you will check this book out. I hate that I didn’t enjoy it more, and that it wasn’t my cup of tea.

Nothing in Elisheva "Eli" Tilton live appears to be working out. Eli would like for once to have something on her own work out. Eli's job a Monte's Rubies is interesting but hard work too. Eli falls into lucid dream that brings about interesting and terrifying consequences too. Matthiel "Matt" is Golden Soul Reaper that finds an interesting scent and investigates it. Matt can't believe that a human is here in his domain especially one with cat-like voice. A Shift has occurred causing havoc through out multiverse with no logical explanation to be had. Meanwhile more strange happenings occur around Eli. Will Matt discover what is causing the Shift? Will Eli discover what's going on? Your answers await you in The Basilick's Creed Omnibus.

This is definitely a fast read. It hits the ground running and doesn't stop until the final page. Poor Eli clueless to the world around her. Matt wants to do his job and discover Eli's identity. I liked the concept of the book which was executed cleverly. The characters were honest, real, and interesting. I would read more of this author's work in the future.

I have to be 100% honest. If the author hadn't followed up with me on the promised review, The Basilisk's Creed just may have ended up on my Didn't Finish list for 2014. It wasn't a terrible book it just wasn't my style of read.

I always take into consideration that I'm reading fiction meant to entertain when outrageous things happen in the books. I usually bump heads with a friend in my book club when unlikely scenarios play out in the books we read. She thinks it ruins the story and I think its fun if I accept it as fiction but this one was a little too over the top. Pigs fly, the Atlantic ocean disappears and my favorite, Eli's landlord goes a little over board when told to go eff himself, are just a couple of things that go too far in my opinion.

Overall it's a good story (with a lot of spice) and good writing but not my cup of tea. I recommend this to any who enjoys urban fantasy with emphasis on the fantasy.

I won this book in exchange for an honest review. It is a New Adult book recommended for people 17+

This book is so different to what I would normally read. The unique 'romance' with the soul reaper was unlike any other love story that I would have read. Unfortunately the novel didn't show a lot of romance as it was a small novel. Eli is the human girl, after working at a high-end nightclub one night she falls in bed and dreams of Matt the soul reaper. They are both aware of the dream and can't stop thinking about each other and wondering whether it was real or not.

The plot was intriguing and the ending did leave me wanting to find out more however I felt as though it was too short. Just as I was getting into the book it ended and just as the plot was strengthening and I wanted to find out more it just stopped.

It was good but I thought that it was slow at the start just as it was going great it stopped. I do hope the rest of the books are great and also longer though.

This is my kind of paranormal-urban fantasy story. I finished reading each volume within the same day, that is saying something about this story. Bold and funny with sarcastic humour. Engaging and unique. Strife's imagination is out of this world, sure to captivate you, hold your curiosity captive. Reading these three volumes is still not enough, I need more of it!
