Love this series!

This book takes us back long before Hotblood, to when Helen is a young woman. It gives the backstory to Helen and Matthew's relationship. Let me just say, the dynamic between their characters is powerful. I have loved every bit of these books, and can't wait for the next installment.

This was SO CUTE.
I just love how Whicker drops you into a new world, a completely original one, without explanations, and just lets you figure it out for yourself. She did the same in Darkly Sweet, and it worked for me there, and it worked for me here. It might not be for everyone. It can be confusing, though you will learn more as you read more. Personally, it's not even that confusing to me, but maybe I'm just weird.
The characters were very interesting and multi-faceted. And despite this being such a short book, I love reading about Matthew and Helen and thought they were totally cute together. Guess I have to start reading the House of Slide Series now.

Amazing world building

I was completely drawn into the unique world created by Whicker in which the inhabitants are divided into houses and possess amazing powers. In volume two Helen continues her search for her brother, which leads her into a maze of experiences that had me completely mesmerized. No spoilers, just read the series.
