Ramsey Security #3

High Voltage

Rate this book
Contemporary Romance

The moment I meet the chauvinistic Dino, I plan to either hump him or beat him into submission. Likely both.

My name is Minka, and I like to be in control. I'm looking for a sensitive man capable of allowing me to call the shots. Instead I'm lusting over a big-mouth, sexy as hell retired mob hitman. For months, I've avoided the jerk and my craving for his hot bod. Now we're alone on a job in a town with nothing to do except roll around naked.

Shifting loyalties, dodging bullets, spilling blood - nothing on this assignment is as scary as my growing desire for Dino.

High Voltage is a standalone romance. Containing graphic sexual content and harsh language, the book is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

Real life has not been my book friend lately I've been so busy I haven't even been able to pick up a book when finally I picked this book up I knew I would love it because I love Bijou Hunter but I almost felt like I had gone so long without reading I wasn't sure how it would be to read again (yeah I know dramatic much)with me still being so busy with the real world I should've known if anybody could do it and pull me out of my real world funk with no books it would be Ms. Hunter. Add to that I actually had just decided to pick up another authors book who I love and had read a few pages when I got this book. So not only was real life too busy but I stopped another book which I never do. So really a lot was working against Bijou but again when in doubt know that she will never let you down.

We met Minka in the other books and I wasn't sure how her book would turn out, she was a previous heroes girlfriend ( which again bijou somehow pulled off without irritating me or frustrating me) I thought she might be too tough for me to connect with and in all actuality she wasn't at all I loved her she was funny, she was strong, she was sweet, she was kind, she was giving, and she wasn't afraid to show her emotions. I loved Dino from word one he was possessive to the point that I would laugh out loud, he wanted Minka and he did what he had to to get her, he had no problem claiming her and letting everyone know she was his and he was keeping her. I also loved that we see some previous characters from other series mixed in with this book it worked really well and just added another fun aspect to this book in series. I really think with each book that Ms. Hunter writes she's just showing us more and more of how talented and author she is. She isn't afraid to write the hard, the emotional, the funny and with each book she showing us her depth and her ability to write new and different things.

In this book Minka and Dino are called to Ellsberg to help Cooper ( Damaged series)with a problem, Minka can't stand Dino and just wants to get the job done so she can go home but Dino has other ideas. While trying to help Cooper with his problem Minka quickly finds out that Dino isnt all that she thought he was, and soon not only does she begin to really like him but fall in love with him. Dino has known from the first time he saw Minka and she punched him that he wanted her and now being alone with her he knows this is his chance and sets out to get her. while falling in love the problem that sent them on this job won't seem to get handled, and even though Minka knows she loves Dino her fears of what will happen when they finish this job and get home still linger.

I loved this book, it was so fun( I laughed out loud tons through this book), and honestly there just wasn't anything I didn't like. It was just one of those books that left me so happy when I finishes it and makes me smile whenever I think about it. I didn't want to put this book down and I never wanted to skim any of the book. I wished I hadn't finished it so soon because it was just that good. As always the epilogues were nothing short of amazing something I have come to expect and look forward to with Bijou Hunter. I loved seeing the other previous characters and we are given some new characters I really wanted more of. I can't wait for some books that will come after this series(and from this series). The back stories in this book just made me connect more with these characters and just made this book that much more.

I'm really happy I have a book waiting for me from another author I love because I would really be worried about the next book standing up to this one if not. I love Bijou she's an amazing author and one of my very favorites of all time and I have read many, many books. Bijou Hunter is a author I will always want more of, and will always be waiting for the next book.

*Thank you Bijou Hunter for this ARC/Beta read.

This book was awesome. I loved it. I love the way this author writes dialogue and banter. This book grabbed me and would not let me put it down. I loved the way this novel revisited some of my favorite characters from previous novels. But you do not have to read them but I loved them and would recommend that you do because they were really good too. I loved the characters, loved that was just a great story without a huge amount of angst. This book made me smile and when I was finished with it made me feel happy. Frankly that's why I read books. I love this author and will be looking for her next novel cause I know if she writes it I am going to want to read it. I loved this novel.

Snarky dysfunctional protagonists, who are extremely competent in their professions of intimidating and/or killing people, find True Lust with each other. Good snappy dialog, competence porn, feisty woman who can put men in their place, all added up to a fun and fast 'brain on crack' read for me.

I was given a copy for an honest review.

I have to admit that there isn't a book by bijou that I haven't loved. I think her books are gritty and well written.

So this is the third book in the series and it's based around a security firm who deal in bodyguards and sorting out threats against people.
Minka has been with us from the beginning but Dino was a new addition, now I really liked "Italian sausage" I thought he was a cool stud, the fact he used to be a mob hitman made him a great addition for the team. As it's made up of ex assassins, the hitman added some of his experience and wisdom. (Total wise guy!)
Minka really had depth in this story and I kind of fell in love with her, although she was an ex assassin she had a very big heart, she was insecure about a lot of things. She had a horrible mother and siblings she wasn't very close to, it made anti social until she started working for Ramsey and made friends with the other guys' wives/girlfriends.
In this story we get to visit the old gang in Ellsberg which was a pleasure for me as I loved the old gang.
There is lots of drama which I would expect from Ms Hunter, lots of gun fights blowing stuff up (a bit like an action movie) and lots of good loving in there too.
I just felt Minka and Dino were a great couple and I loved reading about them.

Please remember this is just my opinion I am in no way related to the author or do I know her personally. I am but a humble book reader.

Unlimited stars!!!!

This is my all time favorite Bijou Hunter book to date. I loved Minka, I totally Lol'd at Dino and wanted my own copy of him at the same time. He was hilarious! Their flirty banter killed me! Minka is a hard ass and it takes an ultra arrogant cocky man to reel her in and Dina totally took the cake! So many feels on this one not one moment was boring. LOVED. TOTALLY. READ IT PEOPLE!!!

the situation... Hahaha ha

Unexpected Relationship

This is the first book in a series of connected standalone novels. Reading the first two books will help understand the characters and their history. This series is also a spin-off from The Damaged series by the same author and some of the characters from those books also make an appearance. You don’t need to have read the previous series, but it’s a good place to start.

Minka was introduced in the previous books in this series and is a retired assassin. She got tired of all the travel and wanted to give herself a chance at having a normal life. That hasn’t changed her very strong character. She’s violent, opinionated and funny.

Dino is a new hire at Ramsey security, taken on because everyone keeps getting married and wanting to stay at home all the time. He was a mob enforcer who got out when he didn’t like who he had started to become. Working for the mob wasn’t who he was, it was what he did and when he saw that changing he got out by being ruthless and knowing where all he bodies were buried. As well as being a violent and ruthless man, he’s also a mamma’s boy. He loves her completely and wants what his parents had, a deep and loving relationship.

When Dino meets Minka he falls for her, but he drives her nuts. He uses all his slick lines and she hates it. He’s used to getting his own way after being in the mob since he was 18 and being big and gorgeous on top of it. He also hides his intelligence and observational skills behind his affable mask. When they go on a job together he knows he is going to make his move, she just thinks they are going to sleep together and then go on with their lives, the way she did with her best friend Troy.

This book is a blend of silly banter and extreme violence. It has tonnes of humour and a lot of smut. It’s a great book to escape into and enjoy, but it’s also got some heart. When Dino initially comes across as an affable and violent oaf, you soon see he isn’t playing around with Minka. He really cares about her and wants what is best for her. He is supportive as well as bossy. Minka, though strong and independent, does have some weaknesses. She doesn’t trust Dino’s affections will last and wants to avoid the pain of letting him in. At the same time she can’t resist him.

The plot surrounding their job is interesting. It’s not really a security job and it’s also not really an assassination job. It’s a fix it situation that they find themselves in and its quite messy, but it gives them a chance to get to know each other away from their usual distractions. We also get to know them as they try and resolve the situation in their uniquely humorous and violent way.

This is a really enjoyable book and I know I’ll be working my way through more of this author’s back catalogue as she is vastly entertaining, with a great ability to create deep and interesting characters. You can’t argue with that recipe.

The H and h are immediately attracted, they are smart, clever dialogue gets a bit much. This is a fast paced book, with a great cast of characters, funny plots, steamy scenes and very entertaining. I liked it but did not find myself invested in it, and skipped a a few pages as it was all a bit too clever.

I've read this one 3 or 4 times now and I love it more each time. It makes me laugh loud and long, and it has HAYES at his grumpy best. Dino is irrepressible and Minka has a secret soft side. One of my all time favorite couples of any book.

First review of 2016 coming right up!

Even though The Ramsey Security series involved some incredibly shady characters with dubious pasts, who liked to get a little kill-happy now and then, they still managed to be some of the most understated anti-heroes I've ever come across, none more so than the delectably droll Minka and the perpetually horny Dino in High Voltage. From previous entanglements with Minka, I knew she was going to be one fiesty, b**** to the wall ex-assassin and it would take a man of either huge bravado to tame her, or a hero with enough audacity to at least try and who better than dirty Dino, a tall sexy killer with a penchant for all things lounge culture but who still manages to call his ma every week.

"If S*** gets dicey," Dino says as we drive in the still-dark morning, "you bail. I'll take the heat."
"Okay. I'll miss you."
Dino frowns at me. "I'm not kidding."
"Neither am I. You're very memorable."
"Don't get killed or arrested."
"Never occurred to me to do either."
Scowling, he grunts, "Well, just don't."
"Okay. You should stay alive and free too. You know, if that works for you."

The sparring back and forth and the build up of the sexual tension between our two main protagonists, is what always makes Bijou's books shine for me as well as the suspenseful but often hilarious plots. These books are brilliant and sparkling with wit and a sinister charm; with a darker underbelly, like a really black, morbid romantic comedy with jokes that you know you probably shouldn't laugh at but you can't help it; they are not as angst fuelled as her other marvellous, Damaged series (but we do get to keep in touch with that awesome group of bad ass and oddball characters) but with enough drama, internal dilemma's, shoot outs, stalkers and sex to keep you hooked to the last full stop.

I received an Arc copy from the author for an honest review.

This book had me caught within the first few pages this is the 3rd book in the Ramsey series but you can read as a standalone and I must say this one is the best out of the three I just could not put it down. Bijou Hunter has a way to make it real when your reading her books and she holds nothing back. This book is perfect to end the series as it will leave you wanting more.

Minka is a fierce sassy female who is hired to take people out so you can imagine how independently fierce she is but she has tendency to being the ice queen. Her partner Dino who is built like a wardrobe strong character alpha male who also is trigger happy with a gun will not take no for an answer. When two strong characters collide, you know the collision is going to explode.
Love the bantering between both of them and the way the treat each other still with respect yet you cant help but laugh at how this two ended up together. The dynamics between both of them is brilliant. It was great to have my favourite Johansson biker family the reapers revisited (if you haven’t read I highly recommend Damaged series).
It written beautifully very descriptive to help your imagination along it has suspense action and hot adult romance very hot !!! what more do you want from a book along with funny bantering that you cant help but giggle at.

Will Apples find her Italian saussage ?

5 stars it had everything a book should have one of my favourite authors.

This was a good read! I think it was a nice end to the Ramsey Security series. I wasn't sure about these two at first. As serious as Minka was in the past few books, Dino's smart-ass self, I wasn't sure they would work at first to be honest. After reading a few pages though, I saw it. He actually loosened her up and softened her at the same time. These two had me laughing at their antics throughout the entire book. The sex scenes were pretty hot. I felt their connection from the beginning. The story pulled me in from the first page. I was so engrossed in this story that I could not put it down. I love Bijou Hunter!

I received an ARC of this book from the author for an honest review.

I usually stick to the rule that if a book can make me laugh within the first page, that its uslally a keeper. HIGH VOLTAGE is EXACTLY that.

The story mainly revolves around the temultuous relationship between Minka and Dino more that what they are sent to do. This was PERFECT. The dynamic between the two of the is priceless. Not to mention Dino's banter with Hayes.

This is my confession: High Voltage is Bijou's best yet!

Just in my opinion because of the genre this wasn't one of Bijou's best for me , but the fans of erotic alpha sex mad males will love this and probably find it her best( I have read all of Bijou's books ). A reasonably good story is mixed in there with some really funny one liners and quips. I tried to give it a 4* rating but thought I'd suck it up as they say and gave it what everybody will think it deserves 5*

Apple and Italian Sausage!

Another great book in this offshoot series. Probably my favourite. The banter is fantastic and lots of fun. I can see a few more characters ready for a spin off - Angus and his secretary maybe?
